When asked if we would like to try root chews, I wasn’t really sure. I’m not a big chewing dog, but my younger sisters are. Why not give Bailie and Madison something new to try! Root Chews are supposed to be great for dental health, and being as February is National Pet Dental Health Month, there’s no better time to give these a try!
My GBGV Life received the two Root Chews in this post to review. My GBGV Life receives no additional benefits for barking about Barkworthies products or the company. The opinions in this review are the honest opinion of My GBGV Life. Barkworthies is not responsible for the contents of this post.
Barkworthies sent us a small and a medium root chew which are perfect for Bailie and Madison. There is quite a difference in size between the two chews.
When Mom first took the root chews out of her bag, Bailie and Madison went nuts, but they had to wait to give them a try. As usual, my sisters got bored waiting as you can see in their expressions.
Being the bigger dog, Bailie got to try the medium size root chew. Even though it looks big, it is light as a feather! These chews are hand crafted from all natural root wood,Β are 100% splinter free and long lasting. The chews act like a natural toothbrush, scrubbing plaque and tartar away with every chomp. Formulated with vital nutrients and low fat, the chews do not contain additives or artificial preservatives.
Madison, being a puppy, got the small root chew. These chews are suitable for all dogs, including puppies. Each chew is gently harvested by hand from Araack trees and air dried for several months before being cleaned and cut to size. A limited number are harvested each year to minimize the ecological impact, and only the dense, splinter-free tuber is removed from the root, which then sprouts again.
While Bailie was not thrilled with her chew, Bailie loves it. As a matter of fact, she hoards both of them most of the time! Since Madison is teething and we want to keep her new set of chompers in top condition, these chews are perfect!
As you can see in this short video, Madison went right to town chomping down on her root chew!

Madison congrats on your appt. to be the HEAD of IT in Blogville
Welcome Madison…you are such a lovely little lady and OMCS I love love love your name.
MOL My full name is Madi(son) D Cat but everybuddy calls me Madi
Hugs Madi your kitty friend
My mom calls her Mads sometimes, but usually the full Madison. She is pretty excited to have such a big job at her age!
I’m sure we’ll be needing one soon – thanks for the tip.
Yes, you will be. Hopefully little Zero is as perfect of a puppy as Madison has been. Once Mom gets her cast off and we can travel, hopefully we will make it to your neck of the woods for a meet up.
I first worried a little, but now I think that could be a very good idea for puppies too… we will look for such chews, thanks for a fabulous review…
We had never heard of them before, but they are nice and even with all the chewing Madison has done, they barely look used at all.
I love to chew! Those just might be a perfect chew for me! I will discuss this with my mom. XOXO, Sparkle
Madison really goes to town on them, but they still look brand new. Bailie isn’t as interested, but she doesn’t chew as much normally.
I’ll have to get some for the girls! Shadow is getting her dental cleaning next week, so this might be one good way for her to keep her teeth looking good afterwards.
Madison loves them and despite all the chewing, they barely have a mark on them.
We have some Barkworthies to review for Dental Health month too. Aren’t they yummy? It was very nice of you to share with your sisters.
I’m not a big chewer, but Madison loves chewing stuff and Bailie is a fan as well, so I let them have the root chews.
Well that’s different. We never saw anything like that before
Lily & Edward
It’s the first we ever heard of them too!
How very interesting! We’ve never heard of those. Maggie is a super-strong chewer, so Mom is always on the lookout for new things for her to try. (Mags can chew through the black KONGS in a matter of minutes.)
We saw that Madison was made head of IT for Blogville and thought we should come say ha roo! Congrats and we look forward to getting to know all of you!
Cammie!
None of us chew through Kongs, so I can’t say how these would hold up with Maggie! Wow! They seem pretty strong, though. Madison is excited about her new position. I know she will do well!
Well, we liked chewin da wood cabinets in da kitchen, so me and Brinley would probably like dese.
I bet you guys would like these, and the small sized ones.
Madisn was handling those things like a pro!
She really enjoys them.
We will definitely be checking these out! Rye is ALWAYS chewing something. Barley chews more now than she did before Rye joined the family, but it really depends on her mood (or if she wants to be a bossy big sister and keep Rye from having the chew). We love other Barkworthies products, but we hadn’t seen these yet. Thanks for telling us about them!
It’s the first we ever heard of such a thing. Madison is always grabbing one and gnawing on it. They will last a long time too.
Go, Madison! She is definitely enjoying that! We’ve never heard of anything like this. It sounds like something that dogs who like to chew on sticks would really enjoy. Luke does that occasionally, so he might really like these. I need to get him chewing on more things that are good for his teeth.
We are not allowed to have sticks because we chew them, so this kind of replaces a stick but is much better. Madison is especially crazy about them.
WE have NEVER heard of these. This is quite INTERESTING. Glad that ONE of you liked them A LOT.
Madison loves them, Bailie here and there, but she isn’t as much of a chewer anymore.
I’ve never heard of these either. Our pups gnaw on antlers but I do worry about how hard they are and the possibility of tooth damage. I’m going to check out the root chew page!
We have antlers and marrow bones for chewing, but we don’t chew so much that we fear damage. I think these roots are more gentle on the teeth.
Those sure look tasty!
Madison is nuts about them and they are going to last a long time.
We are big chewers…BUT we are also be hoarders and Mama has to watch us like hawks when we chew because we tend to “argue” a bunch if some puppy gets even close to our chewy!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
With multiple dogs, one always has to keep watch because the guarding thing can always happen.
Very interesting, never heard of them. I bought a different chunk of wood for the dogs to chew on that isn’t suppose to splinter either, so far it is holding up.
Hmm, so no splinters, huh? Might be just the ticket for chew crazy Elsa! Thanks for the review.
Madison is always gnawing on them and they still look brand new.
They look great for a teething puppy or an avid chewers. We have pretty much stopped chewing. Aspen chews a hoof filled with cheese now and then.
I enjoy a good marrow bone, but Bailie still enjoys most chews, and Madison loves chewing on antlers, bones, roots, anything.
3 bum swings! 3 more!
Root Chews sound pawsome. My huMom is very interested.
Thanks Emma, Madison & Bailie for the wooftastic review.
We have these chews lying around the house and Bailie and Madison seem to enjoy grinding away on them several times a day.
I haven’t seen these products yet. Do they come in jumbo size? I’m curious how they would fair with an aggressive chewer with large teeth like my Titan. Do the pieces break off and is it edible? Would love to know more! π
The large is good sized. Not sure if they break or not as none of ours have broken but they do state that they are for aggressive chewers. You might want to email Barkworthies to see what they say about it.
They look perfect for Jaxson – do they smell…
We smell something, but Mom smells nothing and they really are durable!
