Window to the Soul is the #PetPhotographyChallenge for week six. I was the designated model again this week, which makes me happy! This weeks challenge is composition since last week’s challenge was technical.
What is Window to the Soul?
Window to the Soul is trying to capture a connection to your pet using their eyes. Many believe our souls are in our eyes, thus our eyes may really be the window to our soul.
Creating a Window to the Soul shot!
- Be close to your subject, and make sure the shot is composed well. You will need a subject that is holding pretty still.
- The main focus of your photo should be the eyes. Note, if you look carefully, you can see the blood vessels in my eye!
- Use a shallow depth of field when possible.
- Try not to capture the entire face. Leave out all or parts of the rest of the face and head.
The photo we chose was with me in deep thought focusing upwards. My nose is cut off on purpose, and the focus is on my one eye. Do you feel a connection to me through the soulfulness in my eye? Another part of the composition in this shot is the use of The Rule of Thirds.

We love your eyes! Yes, they are the windows to your soul. Take care of your mommy over the weekend. My mom had a hard fall in the kitchen yesterday. Fortunately she did not break anything just bumps and bruises. I will be the nurse in charge of her. XOXO, Sparkle
I think we need to keep our moms on shorter leashes. They don’t seem to function well when allowed to much freedom! Hope your mom feels better, and thankfully she didn’t break anything!

Yes, the eyes the windows into their souls, and into minds as well. My dogs’ eyes easily melt me into a treat and rubs giving puddle!
