Make sure and take time to stop and smell the lilacs this weekend! As a dog, I don’t find the lilac scent real interesting, but every year I sniff around trying to figure out what humans find so appealing about these flowers. Mom doesn’t enjoy sniffing dead critters, which I can’t understand either. Sometimes I think we are totally different animals!
Many of the lilac bushes lost their flowers in all the rain and wind we had, but our bushes are just now coming into bloom and we have the smell of lilac in the air! Luckily, my nose can separate that out and I can smell the critters. It would be devastating if the critter smell was totally covered up!
Look at this sad little lilac tree back in 2009. As a matter of fact, all our landscaping looked pretty small back then! How times have changed! The path to our front door looks more like a path through a jungle these days!
That little tree grew and grew, and is now Mom’s pride and joy of all the plants/trees in our yard. It’s so big, she can’t even spy on the neighborhood because it blocks her view! When we walk out the front door, the smell of lilacs whacks us right in the nose! I guess it’s good for Mom to finally have something she enjoys sniffing! Do you love the smell of lilacs?
I’m joining Da DB Boyz for Flower Friday today!
we sadly have no lilacs, they are gone now… but I will try the other option to sniff at some dead critters ;o)
Emma! That is one beautiful lilac tree! Your mom should be really proud. Wow!! And yes theae humans do seem to be different animals. We agree. My sister and I were just rolling around in the grass and the mom went all crazy telling us to stop! Gee whiz!! Have a great day and weekend. Your doodle friend Dash
Did you get green furs? Mom never appreciates it when we roll in wet fresh cut grass and turn our furs green.
I love the smell of lilics, one of my favorites for sure. Beautiful bushes you have there.
My mom could sniff them all day!
So could I if we had any to sniff!
We do not have lilacs here in Florida. They sure are pretty. Our confederate jasmines are blooming and my mom thinks they smell wonderful. I am with you, Emma, I would rather sniff dead animals. I did see a bug on the floor the other day and it scared me! Happy weekend! XOXO, Sparkle
Bugs are weird. I can the cats and they usually eat the bugs. My mom says jasmines smell good too.
I do. I love the smell of lilacs. They have such a distinct smell. The sad bit is they are only around for such a short time. I need to get me one of those little lilac bushes to plant in my yard. Have a great weekend.
Most of them just came out right before all the rain storms and then they were gone, but ours came out later. They grow pretty fast. You should get a few to smell up your yard in the spring.
That tree is gorgeous! Lilacs are my favorite. My hubby had some in a vase when I got home from BlogPaws, and I just love to smell them every time I go in the kitchen. The two older bushes we have in our yard are a bit skimpy (we also have two fuller french lilacs but they bloom later). Did your Mom have a secret to getting that one to look so perfect? I think we might need to trim them back.
The tree just takes care of itself. We have never trimmed it or done anything with it, but it is just beautiful. Mom has no luck bringing the flowers into the house as they seem to die so fast.
We don’t have any lilacs either but that sure is pretty!
Your house looks beautiful. In New York you walk out of your house and smell garbage. You would love it.
My mom used to go to NYC when she was flying and said the subway smelled like a bathroom. I would probably love it!
I LOVE the smell of lilacs! Your home is beautiful! I feel like an idiot, I don’t think I have ever seen white lilacs before and I love them!
There are several colors we know of, but they all smell the same to me!
I love the smell of lilacs, honeysuckle and peonies. Spring has been delayed for us, but it’s finally here!
Peonies are another favorite of my mom’s, but we don’t have any.
Mom loves the smell of lilacs and feels the same way about dead animals. Humans are weird! BOL! Your home is beautiful β₯ XXOO Bentley
I have to be careful that my front window isn’t overgrown with plants because I need to see out!
What a GREAT smell to get hit in the face with. Mom and I like flower smells. I am not allowed to smell dead things for too long. But last week, I may or may not have eaten half of a hatched robin egg. It all happened so fast, Mom wasn’t sure. I barely sniffed it. I walked by and slurped it up.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
My sisters would try to the the same. Mom is always trying to see things first when she is out with those two!
What beautiful flowers! Hope you have a great weekend! (=^.^=)
Thank you. So far the weekend is off to a good start.
Wow!! Your front yard flowers have come a long way!! Our Mama also loves the lilac smell, we just don’t understand!!
Thanks for sharing your blooms on Flower Friday!

It’s great in the spring when everything has flowers. It still looks nice the rest of the summer, but it would be nice if the blooms would stay all season!
Your mom did a great job of growing that lilac bush! Wowzers! I love the scent of lilacs!
The funny thing is, we do nothing with it, never trimmed it or anything. It seems to just be a real happy tree!
We don’t have lilacs here, but I do like to stop and sniff udder flowers.
Mom likes other ones too, but the lilacs are her favorites.
One of our favorite flowers! And the smell is divine and reminds me of my grandmother. ?
That is great it triggers memories.
Oh we love you lilac tree. Mommy likes the scent but us cats prefer the honeysuckle, silvervine and catnip and the dogs seem to like dead critters best.
We’ve tried the catnip thing but don’t understand that at all. We dogs will stick to the dead critters.
There are lots of fragrant bushes and trees on our walks, I know mom loves smelling them but they’re usually out of my reach. Love Dolly
I find the stuff down at our level much more interesting anyway.
Pretty photos! Love the smell of lilacs.
My mom is crazy about the smell, which is why we have several of them in the yard.
Pretty lilac tree. Years ago we spent a long weekend camping near Niagara Falls (Canadian side) and nearby we went to a garden that had all kinds of lilacs of every color. It had just rained and the scent was wonderful. All the bushes were so beautiful and I think some were very old.
The Canadian side is the better side of the falls. Lilacs are great for humans!
