Homemade dog training treats are our favorite training rewards around here! Let’s face it! It’s summer and simply too hot to spend time in the kitchen baking. These two ingredient treats are so quick and easy, even summer won’t stop you from making a batch for your pup!
All you need for these treats are one pound of ground meat and an egg. I’m using ground beef today because it was on sale, but we also make them with ground chicken, pork, turkey, or lamb. Any ground meat will work! Put your ground meat and the egg into your mixing bowl, and mix it well! Sometimes using your paws makes the mixing easier.
Next I put parchment paper on a baking sheet. Using the small end of my melon ball scoop, I drop small balls onto the baking sheet. You can be real fancy and roll them all nice and round, but the recipe makes a hundred or so and I don’t feel like rolling them all. They should be the size of a marble or slightly smaller.
Don’t be afraid to place them close together on the baking sheet as they will shrink a bit as they bake. Look at all those delightful little delicacies, and that it only about half of the meat mixture! If you are wondering why I add the egg, it is for binding the meat. I don’t want my treats crumbling when they come off the baking sheet, and eggs are a good protein.
These beauties need to bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20 – 30 minutes. The longer they bake the more crunchy they get. No matter how long you bake them, they are irresistible!
Excuse me, but a good chef always tastes the food to make sure it is safe. I must try some! Actually, I’m not sure if the first one was really good or not, so I better try a few more! Yum!
What do you think? Will you be making these for your furry friend? Any guesses what I will be bringing along for treats to my nose work trial on the weekend?
These look yummy. My assistant is not the best cook in the world, but these look super simple and delicious
2 ingredients! It doesn’t get any easier π
I will be making these for Schooner & Skipper thank you so much for sharing the recipe. They look yummy so I just might try one myself.
Sometimes Mom needs to put treats in her mouth, or break them in her mouth for us. With these, she has no worries!
that is a super recipe, many thanks!!! we are just back from a training lesson the mama said I’m unbelievable… probably we had the wrong treats today ;o)
Some dogs are more food motivated than others. You have to find something you really love. We love real meat!
Now these are a GREAT idea….but………how do you stop my Mom from EATING them???? She thinks they look even better for HER to eat! BOL!!!!! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
We let my mom put them in her mouth sometimes to break them into smaller pieces. She says they are pretty tasty but could use some spices!
How long do they last? How are they stored? Do they need to stay in the fridge or can Mom carry them around in a ziplock bag in her pocket? They seem super healthy and simple. Paws crossed.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Oh dear! I forgot to put down the storage part I was so excited about eating the treats! We keep them in the freezer and take out a small amount that we need for training. They are good frozen, but they thaw pretty fast in the summer. You can keep them in the fridge for a few days in a ziplock bag, or we have them out for training for a few hours with us.
Another great cooking class with Emma. Those sure do look delish! You have a beautiful kitchen. XOXO, Sparkle
Thank you. It works well for a chef like me and cooking. The treats are delicious! I can’t wait to work so I can have some more!
THis is perfect since Mom bought a pound of turkey yesterday! We eat eat and ground beef in our food quite often so it would be fun to have meatballs instead. XXOO Bentley
P.S. You look adorable in your apron and chef’s hat β₯
Thank you. The meatballs are so easy and I love them! Enjoy on your dinner!
Looks yummy can’t wait to try them!!
I’m sure you will love them. They are really yummy.
OMD…. can I have one? Is it okay if I have Mom make me some and loose da training step?
Wags,
Ranger
We use them mainly for training, but they work great for just because snacks too!
You had us at “two ingredients”! I love the simple, and I know the crew will love these!
I know they will love them because dogs love meat and the egg just adds to the picture! Enjoy!
Wow..With a homemade treat so easy to makr there is no excuse for Mama not to get busy and make these!!
xoxo

Sometimes we get tired of making all the little balls, but we push through. The taste is worth the work!
Good idea. I find that treats made from human food are often less expensive than “dog treats.”
They are less expensive, you know what you are getting exactly, and dogs tend to like them better too.
Looks like you cooked up some darn good bites!
Oh yeah! Cat bro Bert had his paws in the mix too. He wants them all for himself, but no chance!
Oh yeah, mom will DEFINITELY be making these treats up for us. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
Your fur-iends,
Sam & Elsa ?
So simple it is hardly a recipe, but it works and dogs love these!
Yum! I only see one problem with these treats: keeping them away from our humans. π Thanks for the recipe, Emma!
It’s funny, but my mom doesn’t mind putting them in her mouth or biting them into smaller pieces at all!
Easy peazy. Thanks for the quick recipe
Super simple and tasty!
That sounds like a recipe even My girls’ sensitive tummies could handle, especially if I use ground turkey instead of beef.
I bet it would work. Any ground meat works!
I LOVE it, super simple, and super tasty! Thanks for sharing!
One of out nose work buddies made my recipe for his treats yesterday using lamb and loved them!
looks simple enough – thanks for sharing!
The hardest part is creating all the little balls. A friend made them with lamb for the nose work trial and her dog loved them!
My dogs would love these!
They are really tasty! We sure love them.
