Homemade dog training treats are our favorite training rewards around here! Let’s face it! It’s summer and simply too hot to spend time in the kitchen baking. These two ingredient treats are so quick and easy, even summer won’t stop you from making a batch for your pup!
All you need for these treats are one pound of ground meat and an egg. I’m using ground beef today because it was on sale, but we also make them with ground chicken, pork, turkey, or lamb. Any ground meat will work! Put your ground meat and the egg into your mixing bowl, and mix it well! Sometimes using your paws makes the mixing easier.
Next I put parchment paper on a baking sheet. Using the small end of my melon ball scoop, I drop small balls onto the baking sheet. You can be real fancy and roll them all nice and round, but the recipe makes a hundred or so and I don’t feel like rolling them all. They should be the size of a marble or slightly smaller.
Don’t be afraid to place them close together on the baking sheet as they will shrink a bit as they bake. Look at all those delightful little delicacies, and that it only about half of the meat mixture! If you are wondering why I add the egg, it is for binding the meat. I don’t want my treats crumbling when they come off the baking sheet, and eggs are a good protein.
These beauties need to bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20 – 30 minutes. The longer they bake the more crunchy they get. No matter how long you bake them, they are irresistible!
Excuse me, but a good chef always tastes the food to make sure it is safe. I must try some! Actually, I’m not sure if the first one was really good or not, so I better try a few more! Yum!
What do you think? Will you be making these for your furry friend? Any guesses what I will be bringing along for treats to my nose work trial on the weekend?
