Mom told me and Madison that Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza is a must when visiting the windy city. Being a pizza loving family, we agreed and set out to find a Giordano’s or Pizza Uno to get a pie to go. Mom told us those are the two best kinds.
On our walk around the city, we stumbled onto the Giordano’s just three blocks from our hotel. At dinnertime, Mom ordered a small sausage and pepperoni pizza online and then walked over to pick it up. Madison and I were excited to give this real Chicago pizza a try! While waiting, Mom snapped a photo of the pizza kitchen.
The Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza arrived back to our room fairly quickly and in a real nice box. Mom let Madison and I have a good sniff before digging in. I was tired of waiting and wanted Mom to simply dish it up for us!
Imagine my surprise when I was handed a piece of crust! “Where is the pizza”, I asked. Does she think I’m stupid? All I get is the crust and she is going to eat all that cheese, sausage, and pepperoni? This is not fair! I thought we were all on the vacation together!
Okay, I guess crust is better than nothing, I won’t complain and I will just eat the crust.
While Madison and I munched on the crust, Mom was eating the entire pizza pie and enjoying it a lot! Crusts may not be the best things for dogs to eat, but vacations are a time to do things you don’t normally do!
Although I really wanted some of the meat and cheese, in the end, even the crust brought a smile to my face.
What is it with moms and crust? That is all I ever get too! I really would like more than the crust. XOXO, Sparkle
I know. They get all stingy at the worst times!
Looks tasty – but I betcha your smile will be brighter if you get to taste NYC crust!
Hmmm…don’t know anything about NYC pizza. I doubt we will go there because Mom isn’t a big fan of NYC. She says she could never drive in that city and it is just too busy for her.
Unfair! You were promised pizza, you should have gotten pizza.
I know. Mom usually doesn’t lie to us about stuff, but this was a bad one!
Wow, that’s quite a pizza! Looks yummy.
The crust was nice, but Mom said the rest was amazing and she had it over two dinners.
Dat’s all I get when we get pizza – da CRUST! I’m not complaining. I luv me sum CRUST!
Wags,
Ranger
We like crust too, but some meat and cheese on vacation would have been nice!
Oh my, we can almost smell that yummy pizza and your happy smile says it all!
Even the crust was mighty tasty!
I had read that pizza crust was bad for dogs because of the yeast, you are fabulous and knowledgeable about dogs (more than I am), so maybe that changed? It does look delicious!!!
It is like any carbs/breads. Within reason. We don’t get a lot of crust, but a few pieces seems to be fine.
There is some awfully good food in Chicago
Lily & Edward
I think you are right. We tried to rob a hotdog vendor, but Mom foiled our attempt!
Mom says the crust is the BEST part! And I don’t even get that so stop whining and be glad you at least got something. Love Dolly
My mom doesn’t like crusts at all, so we are lucky there. Some meat and cheese would have been nice, though.
Yum yum!! Crust is actually my favorite part of the pizza…not good news for the dogs! Don’t worry they still get some, and I bet we’d all love that Chicago pizza! π
My mom rarely eats her crusts, so we get to divide up what she has.
OMD, dat looks yummy!
Oh, it sure was, even if we only got crust.
Mmmmm….pizza…I think we may have been a bit miffed at just crust too, Emma!

It really didn’t seem fair, but crust was better than nothing.
Welcome to my world. Vacations, parties, visitors – no matter when or where – it’s all crust all the time. Apparently #sharingiscaring means nothing when it comes to pizza.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
My mom is a food hog I guess. Oh well, we take what we can get our paws on.
Mom and Dad try to pass the crust off as “pizza bones” but we aren’t fooled. She usually ends up giving us a pepperoni! ?
Wow! We never get the meat, sometimes a touch of cheese.
Wait a minute, Emma. Let me get this straight. There was a pizza with cheese, pepperoni, and sausage and all you got was crust? You were robbed! Of course, my humans are such pizza pigs that they’ve never even shared the crust with me, so what do I know? π
I’m sorry. I meant Bailie. Will you forgive me, Emma? I know how irritating it is to be confused with a pesky little sister. π
Mom mixes up our names all the time. No problem!
Humans tell us to share all the time, but they don’t do it themselves. It is definitely an issue we dogs need to fix!
Chicago ia a great city. As many times that I have been there, I never had the pizza.
Where was Emma? Why didn’t she go on vacation with you?
Traveling with 3 dogs is too hard, especially in the city, and Emma doesn’t like to go to nose work trials unless she is competing. She gets to travel alone with Mom to her trials, so we all get out turns.
I still like Gino’s East the best, although since they lost their original building they just don’t have the atmosphere they used to. The great thing is, they have frozen deep dish pizzas that cook up to taste just like the ones in the restaurant. My next choice would have to be Giordano’s and lucky me, but one just opened about miles from me (walking distance, if I had absolutely no other way of getting there. My pack gets upset with me because they only get a little of the crust, too. I need to make some mini deep dish pizzas just for them, one of these days. That way I can be sure there is nothing in it that isn’t good for my pups!
Mom hasn’t tried Gino’s. Sometimes the atmosphere is almost as important as the food itself. We’ve never had our own pizzas, but we settle for the crust pieces when we can get them.
nummy!!! I had my first deep dish last year in Chicago, it was delish
It’s seriously tasty stuff!
