According to Madison, Montrose Dog Beach was the most fun she has ever had, in her entire life. Knowing she is eleven months old, you know that is a huge thing for her to say! On the way out of the city we stopped at Montrose Dog Beach to see why it gets such rave reviews.
Being older and wiser at four years old, I was a bit unsure about going off leash in a strange place, let alone on a beach with lots of humans and dogs. Despite being the wild child, when it comes right down to it, I’m kind of timid. I decided to stick pretty close to Mom in the beginning, and I tried to keep an eye on Madison who was on a mission to overtake the dog beach and call it her own.
We’ve heard so much about this dog beach from our friends Penny and Zero. They seem to be regulars and being bloggers, they post lots of photos and videos from Montrose Dog Beach. Well, guess who we ran into on the beach? Yes, Penny and Zero! Emma has told us that their blog was the first one she ever followed, and we feel like we know these guys even though we have never met in the furs until now.
In real life, they are the same as in their blog – wild and crazy! Mom wanted to get a shot of all four of us together, but we were all scattered about, and then they had to leave. Oh well, we did get some shots of them at least, part of the hundred or so photos Mom took of us having fun! If you are not a fan of their blog, you really should check it out. They have amazing photos and videos, as well as great writing!
Madison and I spent about ninety minutes at the beach, but it felt more like ten minutes because we were so busy having fun! My little sister has no fear and is not shy about jumping in with strange dogs and bossing them around!
The beach had dogsΒ of all sizes from tiny to extra large. For Madison, who is fairly small, it’s always fun to find dogs smaller than she is.
Some of the dogs had a game of tennis ball going on. Like me and Emma, Madison has no use for tennis balls, BUT she does love to play chase the dog chasing the tennis ball!
I decided to take a stroll with my little sister for a while. Getting wet in the water felt pretty good! There were beach warnings out on that day because of the high waves, but we stuck close to the shore.
Little Madison was on the move, galloping, chasing, playing, the entire time we were at the beach! Can you guess how fast she fell asleep when we got back to the car?
At one point she stopped for a few moments to strike a nice photo pose for our photographer.
A big black dog with a beard approached Madison. She decided to be submissive and laid down to be sniffed.
When the action slowed a bit, Madison cruised the beach, looking for the next fun to begin.
Montrose Dog Beach was so much better than we ever imagined! We definitely want to go back one day! If you are in the Chicago area with your dog, make sure you stop and take a swim! This beach makes for happy dogs!
If you missed the rest of our Chicago mini vacation, you can find our post about dog friendly Chicago here and Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza here. Emma will be back to blogging tomorrow!
Oooh, that looks like a blast! We’re thinking about taking the boat through Chicago. I wonder if Montrose Dog Beach will be on our way?
Check it out online. It’s north of the city. It has a dog wash station too if you need it. Lots of fun to be had there.
What a way to end the vacation. So much fun.
It was super fun, and the weather was so perfect the entire three days.
So much fun! I would say little Madison was asleep in the car in less than 10 seconds. Great pictures. What a fun day. XOXO, Sparkle
She pretty much got her seat belt on, hopped in and crashed. Happy dreams I’m sure.
Wow!! What a great day! And mom smiled out loud when she saw Penny and Zero’s picture! She was wondering if you might run into them there. Madison is one happy puppy. Good work crazy sisters! Great vacation. Does Madison snore? If she does, we bet she was snoring loudly after that great day at the beach. Great week on the blog! your doodle friend Dash
Thanks, guys. We had to run into Penny and Zero if we were at that beach! Madison doesn’t snore, but she sleeps hard and falls out of bed about once every month or two. Mom doesn’t know what to do about that!
That looks like so much fun!!!!
My sisters had a blast, and Mom said it was the most fun she has ever had at a dog park too.
BOL just like a little kid
snorts,
Lily & Edward
Pretty much! Maybe since Mom treats us like little kids?
I KNEW IT!!!! I KNEW IT! I am soooooooooo happy you got to meet Zero and Penny in pawson!!! OMD! I sure wish I could!! Is Will as nice in person as he seems to be on his blog? I would have just died!!!!! Soooo happy for you!
Will and the pups were super nice. It was fun to meet such an awesome person and blogger. We didn’t have a lot of time, but it was still fun. Zero and Penny had their own routine there, and we were the newbies, so we didn’t interact too much but we did do some sniffing of each other.
That looks like a great day at the beach! We could never be off leash like that but it’d be nice to stroll along with Mom and Dad. Maybe someday.
We can never be off leash unless the area is completely fenced. Guess what? The beach is all fenced in. You have to really swim out and around if you want to bust loose because the fence goes out into the water. You boys could romp like my sisters did.
Wooftastic!
3 bum swings! 3 more!
What a pawsome place & furbulous pics!
Thank you for sharing them.

It is a truly awesome place for the humans and their dogs. Just loved it there.
Looks like tonsa fun!
It was exhausting, but so much fun!
Wow, what fun!! You girls both look so happy, especially in that last photo. We’re glad you enjoyed it too, Bailie, even if you are a little shy. β₯
Bailie loves everyone, but she doesn’t always trust a large number of dogs she doesn’t know. She still did great and was a great watchdog and protector for Madison who was a holy terror on the beach!
You little surfer girls sure were having a blast!
We LOVE Penny and Zero! How exciting to meet up with them in the furs at this wonderful place!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
They are super nice and really full of energy! Zero is huge already at just 8 months!
It looks like Madison had a blast!!!!
xoxo

She maxed out her fun meter at the beach!
Amazing photos!!!! It looks like you had so much fun! We used to live on the coast, and our Labs adored beach visits… your story and photos made me a little nostalgic.
We lived on the North Sea Coast in Germany for a few years, and I loved the beach. I got to run around there almost daily, but Bailie and Madison have never been to a really nice beach until this one. It was a lot of fun.
I nearly fell from my sofa while reading…. isn’t that THE BOMB? you met Penny&Zero ind the furs? wow!!!! and so much more furfriends! I agree with you this is a super place for dogs!!!!
Oh my, you would have loved it. I think you and Madison would have made yourselves king and queen of the beach.
What a wagnificent outing! And to meet up with Penny and Zero pup…even better. We β€οΈ those guys and are so jealous you got to meet them and play on their furbulous beach.
They are real nice pups and their dad is super nice too!
Was the baby with them?
No baby.
What a fun adventure! It looks like you both had a great time.
We all had a wonderful couple of days!
That is SO COOL that you got to meet some blog friends there! It looks like you had TONS of fun!
It was so much fun. We were all tired out, but it was great!
It looks like something that would have been the best day ever for any dog regardless of age. What a fun day!
Oh man! Your boys and my sisters on that beach would be overload. It was a fabulous place and because it was fenced, made it all the better because we can only go off leash in fenced areas because we take off tracking critters if there is no fence.
What a great day!!! How very cool you got to meet penny and zero they are super cool!
They are super cool and super busy dogs too. We got in a few sniffs and chases, but they were really busy doing their own things.
Oh I wish we had a dog friendly beach near us. Delilah would love it as much as Madison does!
Mom has never seen a dog beach like this one – totally fenced, clean, fabulous!
