The decision has been made – I’ll be making a luscious liver cake for little Madison’s first birthday. Mom calls Madison a food snob as she doesn’t like to eat, not even treats! Having watched a lot of baking shows, I decided to do what the TV professionals do – sit down with Madison and discuss her cake to be sure I make exactly what she has in mind. A puppy only turns one once, so this needs to be right!
I think every dog loves liver, most humans do not. Mom was not thrilled about my baking with liver, but she let me do it. The cake is so easy as it consists of just three ingredients, whole wheat flour, liver, and eggs.
Pureeing the liver is the first step in making the cake batter. I put it in my food processor and let it whirl around until it was nice and smooth. It’s hard not to dive face first into the liver because it smells so good!
Next I put the pureed liver, flour, and eggs in my mixing bowl and mixed them up. I kept on stirring until everything was well blended.
You will need to decided what kind of cake form you want to use. I decided to go with my silicone large paw molds, but if you use muffin tins or a cake pan, don’t forget to grease the pans well before pouring in the batter! The batter was the perfect amount for six large paw cakes. At this point, I couldn’t help myself. Taste testing was unavoidable! The liver cake batter tastes amazing!
Once the liver cakes were popped into the oven, the birthday girl to be showed up. Baking liver is pretty smelly, which is why I think she came to the kitchen. The poor thing was waiting and waiting for what seemed like days, not just thirty minutes!
I removed the cakes from the oven, let them cool, and then removed them from their molds. The luscious liver cakes were absolutely perfect. We can’t wait to give them a try! Stay tuned for the birthday party later this week to see how we like them! If you would like to make them for your dogs, click here to download my recipe!
I love to watch your cooking shows, Emma. You are just the bestest big sister to little Maddie! Tho liver cakes looks DELISH! XOXO, Sparkle
This cake is definitely a winner for dogs, humans not so much. It smells fabulous and the tasting I’ve done says it is totally to drool for.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
I love to bake, and I know what we dogs love!
Are the cakes crunchy or soft? My dog would love some liver cake.
They are soft, sponge like in texture, even after they are refrigerated.
We think you want the liver cake, BOL

Madison is such a food snob, we never know. She refuses almost everything. Just not into food.
I used to make these for my German Shepherds and they LOVED them! I need to make some for the boys since they love liver.
I think every dog would love them! Bentley, start that begging asap!
They look delicious wish these posts had smellavision!!
That would mess up a lot of keyboards with the drool!
Your are such an amazing Chef and we know Madison will enjoy!
The cats will get some tiny pieces too.
You are the best sister to sit down with Madison and talk to her about what she wanted. I know they will bw delicious because you made them with love!
I always bake with love. Madison is very difficult because she isn’t into food, but she will love this cake.

Mom has made real liver jerky for us before, but never baked with it. The taste is heavenly!
Yum, yum, yum. Did I say yum? I insisted that Mommy download your recipe and we *will* be making this recipe pronto. And I love the photo of you sneaking a little lick. π
At our house, anything liver is irresistible! Humans don’t like working with liver usually, but Mom does it because we love it.
And because she loves you. π
We just had our Mama print out this recipe…OMD, we can’t wait to see how you like them!!

The batter was good, so I know the cakes will be wonderful!
Wow, pureeing liver….only a dog could do that! π We hope picky, er -food snobby – Madison will be pleased with her birthday treat – our crew sure would be! If she’s not thrilled, Cricket says you can come make her some birthday dinner next month, Emma!
If she decides not to eat her cake, I know Bailie and I will be happy to eat her portion, but I think she will like it.
Those look yummy!
We’ve never met anything liver we haven’t liked!

Oh man, you need this cake for your birthday! Who doesn’t like liver and it is such a simple recipe. Good luck and happy early birthday!
How exciting a bday and a party, can’t believe Madison is coming on a year old.
We can’t believe today is her last official puppy day!
Do you have a food processor just for gross things, like liver? I can’t imagine using the one I use for people food, for something like that. Even though I wash it good.
Nope. We only put edible stuff in our recipes. Mom wore rubber gloves and washed it out good and then ran it through the dishwasher. She is afraid of liver!
Those cakes look pawesome. I love making liver cake, but my biped moans about the liver! I make too much to eat and freeze some in portions for treats.
My mom doesn’t like it, but she does it because we love it so much.
It was so nice of you to take over the cake baking for you mom! You did a beautiful job! I bet you got the lucky job of licking the mixing bowl clean too!!
A good chef always has to taste her creation before baking π
