For me, loving waffles is not only the taste, but having my mom make them and serve them up when I come down for breakfast in the morning! What a great reason to roll out of my comfy dog bed with Bunny!
I could eat up all the waffles my mom makes, but she only lets me have a small amount. We don’t get them often either, so it is extra special when I do get to eat them.
So what makes my mom’s waffles so tasty? What is her secret ingredient?
Imagine this! BACON! No, she doesn’t put actual bacon the waffles. Mom makes a buttermilk waffle recipe and instead of shortening, she adds bacon fat. It makes all the difference in the taste bud world, and I love the taste of bacon! Who doesn’t love bacon? A big thanks to my Gramma, as she is the one who taught my mom how to make these special, super tasty waffles!

My Swedish Grandmothers hand typed oatmeal cookie recipe from the Great Depression (she was a homesteader in Montana with her logger husband), used bacon fat instead of butter or shortening and added some cardamom. Those are amazing cookies.
