Buffalo Shores Beach? Where the heck is that? Mom and I took a two day road trip to the Quad Cities area of the map for my nose work trial in the huge metropolis of Blue Grass, Iowa. We went to the same trial location, Camp Abe Lincoln last year, and we knew there were some nice places to walk along the Mississippi River. The middle of the river is actually the border between Iowa, and Illinois.
There is a huge camp ground right by the beach, but on December 1, everything is closed down and locked up for the winter. We had a gorgeous day to visit with about fifty degrees right before sunset.
One of the first things I did was stick my paws into the river. Mom didn’t mind as the water was crystal clear. I love walking along the shoreline in the water. Who would think it would be possible on December 1!
There were quite a few tree stumps on the beach which we thought was weird, but they make good photo spots. Behind me is the island 322 from the map of the area I posted .
We found several big trees that had fallen over on the beach. I crawled under the roots of one of them. It kind of makes a nice shelter.
Not far off the beach is a playground with lots of benches and so many leaves! I had leaves attached to my furs all over the place!
By the time we were ready to leave, I had been in the water three times! Because it’s a beach, I also collected some nice sand to take along with us in the car! Mom didn’t care because we have the 4Knines cover in the back seat where I sit and in the cargo area. If it gets all sandy, it is easy to shake out, and is not all over the car.
The beach was so peaceful having it all to ourselves, with the sun going down. I could have sat in my spot next to the water for hours.
My photographer took one last shot of me before we headed back to the car and off to the hotel. After spending five hours riding in the car a girl needs some exercise. It was nice for both Mom and me to get out and stretch our legs in such a beautiful spot like Buffalo Shores Beach!
Remember, the 4 Gifts for Pets Giveaway Extravaganza runs through Friday! It’s not to late to join in the holiday fun!

what a peaceful place… I love it… can you please snitch this sign if you come back to this lake? we would need it… last weekend we had to maneuver around 87 quads, 87 unleashed corgies (owned by janis joplin, not by HRM) and at last a pack of beagles and two horseman who lost the direction while hunting… that was a challenge… but, the horse apples were not bad hehehe
Oh my sister Katie loves horse apples and it always made her sick. They were all over the beaches in St. Peter Ording.
It sounds like a perfect mommy and me day.
We had a great two days together!
That looks so nice. Nothing better than a beach all to yourself.
It is the very best!
You have all the fun! We get stuck on treadmills and only have birds and squirrels to watch from inside! Even Chablis gets to do therapy work starting again today. I have too much energy to settle down for that stuff, I DO very much like sitting on stumps. Could you possibly ship me one of those for my back yard? You could send it down the Mississippi River and I will get mom to pick it up at the Arch, because , as you probably remember, we live in St. Louis. Good luck on your nosework trial! Elbe
Mom and I had a lot of fun. I found all the hide at my trial, but Mom had a moment of temporary insanity and blew it for the team! We will try again. At least we still had fun and our team is back.
another pawesome find!
Real nice place when it is deserted!
Ready for something crazy… We’ve been there! Wilhelm, Brychwyn, and Huxley got a picture on that beach too! Perhaps not so crazy if we didn’t live thousands of miles away but we made an unplanned stop at that beach on our way back West from Buffalo, NY a few years ago. I remember how funny it was to go from Buffalo to Buffalo. Anyways, we are glad you enjoyed that beach too: https://www.cascadiannomads.com/pet-adventure-blog/buffalo-to-seattle-with-3-dogs-day-3-morning-on-the-mississippi-sunset-in-nebraska
OMD! That is amazing! Who would ever think someone from so far away would have a photo at almost the exact same spot! Since Gramma is from Buffalo, we find it funny too. Sometimes the world sure gets small. I bet you didn’t make it to Camp Abe Lincoln, though!
Oh my sweetie! How I would love to stroll along the beach paw in paw with you. XXOO How would you like to attend the Blogville’s New Year’s Eve gala with me??
Oh my Bentley, I would love to go with you! I haven’t thought that far ahead yet as we have so much going on with sports and stuff lately. Please promise me you will wear that debonair bow tie!
It sure does look beautiful Emma, and it looks like you enjoyed it too!
I love swimming and I love mommy and me time.
You shore were having a fun time!
LOL! You kitties are so smart!
You are so BEAUTIFUL, Emma! XOXO, Sparkle
Oh, thank you. I was super happy hanging out with just me and mom for two days and getting to swim in December!
What a beautiful place, and you look so content, Emma! We bet you and your Mom really enjoyed your time together.
I cherish my mommy and me time as it is kind of a rare thing except for our walks every day.
Mama says road trips are mostly about the journey. What fun and pretty place to do some leg stretching and journey enjoying!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
One has to include some fun stops. If you just drive and don’t have fun along the way, it is boring.
What a great adventure and some mighty fine photos and memories.
We had a real nice road trip together!
We did not! I guess I should add Camp Ave Lincoln to our bucket list. ?
It’s really not a very exciting place, just a YMCA camp, but it is right near the beach.
What crystal clear water! Looks like you guys had fun – but weren’t your paws cold in that water? Brrrrz!
Heavens no. I go swimming even when the ice is still partially on the lake. My furs keep me warm.
What a beautiful place to walk! Looks like you had a fantastic time. We love when we have the beach to ourselves, too!
It’s always more fun when you have the peace of being all alone.
