Last minute Christmas preparations have been started at our house. My mom is a planner, can’t stand to procrastinate, but she doesn’t like wrapping gifts. She buys gifts all year long and keeps them in the gift closet, but a few days before Christmas, we have to get busy wrapping. Many gifts this year were wrapped at the store which Mom absolutely loves! The rest we did together. It’s always a family event.
I think Madison and Bert are the only ones who really find wrapping up gifts to be a fun activity! Aside from my mom being a planner, she is an organizational nut except for in two instances. One of those is hotel rooms – everything goes on the floor, no neatness, no organization, and gift wrapping. All the wrapping supplies are dumped in the living room. and gifts are then wrapped one by one with us searching for appropriate boxes, wrapping paper, and bags.
I enjoy sniffing through the huge mess. It’s lots of fun because we normally don’t have a huge mess to be in! For me it is important to smell all the gifts to make sure they are okay.
Bailie with her sense of fashion and style always inspects the wrapping paper and bows to make sure they are super “cool”! It appears even squeaky piggy is trying to get in on the action!
Cat bro Bert loves a good pile of stuff to play around in. We have to make sure he doesn’t jump on wrapped presents, and accidentally tear the paper with his claws. For some reason, kitty sis Sophie refuses to participate in the fun.
Being the agility dog of the family, Madison enjoyed a wrapping paper tunnel. I think she thought she was hiding or something. Silly puppy!
After I finish sniffing through the pile of stuff, I retire to my dog bed to wait for Mom to finish up the wrapping. No need for me to stick around since I don’t have thumbs to work with.
Cat bro Bert is a bit sad because some of the precious boxes will be leaving our house. You know how cats are! Boxes are treasures, not just cardboard!
After a very long time, and a frustrated Mom, the job is finished. Isn’t it amazing what that woman can turn a huge mess into? We are now done with almost everything (a couple more gifts arrive today to be wrapped), and Christmas is welcome to show up at any time! Do you have any last minute “traditions” at your house?
My tradition is no wrapped gifts, only donations to needy charities. All my friends have an agreement that we will do this. We are at the stage of life where we are trying to declutering.
That is a great idea. We have kids in the family who love the gifts, so we keep on wrapping!
I have 4 nieces and 1 nephew. Don’t give as much as I used to since the kids are older. I give money any get something for them to unwrap. Merry Christmas Everyone.????????????
Well, your Mom might hate wrapping but she sure does an amazing job!
She can do it, but it isn’t something she likes doing. Well, one or two gifts she enjoys, but so many is too much.
We like to unwrap! That’s what we are good at!! Your packages look very pretty! We would love to unwrap them all!

All I can say is there is a reason gifts are kept in the closet, not under the tree until the last minute π
HuMom has a love hate relationship with wrapping paper. She loves the application & the anticipation of unwrapping but doesnβt like the waste but for this holiday she tries to ignore it & indulge in her pleasure of tight corners, curly ribbons & shiny bows.
Boxes, even Q & I love a good box; good things are found in them but Dot & Jerry Underfoot go pawfectly crazy over them; they like a good gift bag too?
Thanks for sharing your wrap experience with us. Mom does a wagnificient job. Gifts look wooftastic!

Mom recycles gift bags and bows from year to year to cut down on some of the waste.

Your mum sounds a bit like me – doesn’t particularly like, but still pretty good at it!!! Nothing quite beats a well-wrapped box. I try to reserve the brown paper which comes as padding in grocery deliveries and such, use that for wrapping and paint or stamp patterns on it… Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
With blogging we get so many boxes and “padding” we have plenty for our packages every year. Merry Christmas!
Those are such wonderful photos! It looks like you are officially ready!
We are ready. Mom has to do some baking today, but that is the fun part.
What fun to make it a family affair! I usually wrap as I go, which means the wrapping supplies are sitting in the dining room for most of the Christmas season (neatly inside a tote though). We usually have several different parties to go to, and I do them in the order as needed! The crew is usually just napping nearby, they don’t try to get involved. But I do remember how much help cats can be! We will be finishing up the last of ours today.
Mom should do it as she goes, but she doesn’t want to leave everything out, so it is one be wrapping festival each year! Enjoy your Christmas!
I have tried to comment on your blog many times but I always get Invalid Security Code. I have researched and I cannot find an answer to the problem. I work off of Windows 10 and have all the security bells and whistles. I am stumped. ~~~ Well my comment over on your blog was ~~~~~
You had better be careful or you will get wrapped up as a gift. But then we animal are a gift a gift that keeps on giving through the years.
Happy Holidays

I had success! HURRAY

That is strange. I haven’t heard of anyone else having any comment issues, but it appears you finally got through. Thank you for your efforts! Happy Howlidays!
Mom does not wrap our presents.they go in paper bags that she squirrels away during the year. Elbe still gets so excited he tears around with the bags before he comes back for his presents. That is where I get my chance to hog everything until Mom intercepts.

We do some bags too, but Mom finds the wrapped packages to be more traditional and fun.
My tradition was always to put up the tree and decorate the inside of the house; but this year I just didn’t feel like going up in the attic. So I didn’t. A little “Charlie Brown”-ish looking tree that we’ve had all year is serving as the tree. It’s just been too stressful around here all year to allow more “stuff” to add to it.
Merry Christmas to ALL of You from ALL of Us! ????βοΈβοΈ
We just carry the fake tree up from the basement these days. The real tree is so much work and so messy. It works fine for us. Merry Christmas to you!
We don’t have a basement – just a crawl space – to store stuff. That’s one of the few things I miss about the house I grew up in.
We’re usually out of Lefse on Christmas eve if Christmas falls after a weekend so Mom will make one last batch, with Dad helping to peel all the potatoes to mix with the flour, butter, and cream.
Your packages are SO very pretty. My pawrents are, uh, “wrapping challenged”. π

Our neighbors and some friends are always making lefse this time of year! Minnesota thing!
This is what we are doing tonight! And mom says we are huge help (she rolls her eyes while she says this. Isnβt sitting on the paper and sniffing every bag helpful? We see she bought some treats for our cousins! No fair! Open them now!! Have a great day Emma! Your doodle friend Dash
Wait until she leaves the room for a moment and then snatch those treats and squirrel them away for later π
Great job gals(and kitties)!! We know your Mama couldn’t have pulled off all that wrapping without your expert snoopervision!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
Everything is more fun with pets, helpful or not π
Not much tradition here. I went to the spa yesterday and I look beautiful! I got a new toy.The mom’s back has been acting up, but she did get the inside of the house decorated and made some human cookies. I have 2 more toys under the tree. It is ALL about ME! XOXO, Sparkle
Glad it is all about me as it should be. Sadly, I have to share things with my sisters but Mom does try to keep me in my queen status when she can.
Our Mom has one more present to wrap and she makes a huge mess wrapping things.
Package wrapping is quite a mess, but it is worth it I guess.
Our last minute tradition is the same as yours! We make a huge mess wrapping the presents, and then we (eventually) end up with a nice neat pile! Happy Holidays!
Yes, that is exactly how it works. Our hotel rooms are the same. Stuff everywhere, but all of the sudden it is all back in the suitcase and we can leave. Silly humans!
You guys are such great helpers. Have a very Merry Christmas.
We do our best!
I love wrapping gifts but always lose the tape, scissors and tags 87 times each wrapping session! Ho-Ho-Ho
It’s quite a project, but when we finish we are always happy we did do the wrapping!
I wrap the same way Mom does…buy all year, put in closet. Then just before Christmas, pull everything out and wrap away!! Hope you all had a great Christmas!
Whew! Good to know she is not the only crazy lady with wrapping around!
