We have had a rule for spring flowers at my house my entire life. Much to my surprise, my mom, creator of the rule broke it this year! She went to the garden place without me, and came home with a load of plants! She always says, “In Minnesota, never put plants outside until after Mother’s Day.” What is going on?
It started when the doormat went outside on Sunday morning. Next Mom was showered, and heading out the door by 10 am, not normal for a Sunday. She said I could not go along because she was going to fill the car to the gills at the plant warehouse. I settled into my seat in the window, and waited for her to return.
This warehouse place is only open on weekends, and since Bailie has a nose work trial and tracking test this weekend, and nose work next weekend, it was the only chance Mom had to get plants before they sell out. At first, she planned to keep them in the garage for a week or two, but after two days, she couldn’t handle it, and wanted them outside. We will have to watch the weather, and bring them all in if it gets too cold at night. I love the red and white planters she got for the front step. Red is my color!
We all love bright colors at my house, so she got some nice, bright, mixed planters for the deck. The are going to be huge and look spectacular in a month or two.
Last but not least, she got this bright, jumbo, hanging planter. Mom claims we are keeping it for a week or so, and then it will be a gift for someone, but I don’t know what she has planned. It is a pretty plant, though.
Now to keep our paws crossed that we don’t dip below freezing, and there is no more snow! Mom has never had plants out this early, but it is kind of nice. Bright flowers definitely make everyone feel cheery! If you have some flowers, or a flower like topic, join my friends at LLB in the Backyard for the Flower Friday Blog Hop.
When we lived in Denver, Mom had the same rule! But now … no rules. But she hasnβt gotten any flowers yet… Your mom picked beautiful flowers Emma!! My mom is jealous! have a great day. Your doodle friend Dash
We are glad the process is over and we can just enjoy them.
Oh my gosh those plants are beautiful, I too would want them out and be able to look at them. Have a great weekend!
Thank you. That place has wonderful flowers at good prices.
So beautiful. I do miss buying flowers like that.
I’m picturing hanging baskets hanging off the RV as you cruise down the highway, LOL!
oh that is a beautiful flower power post…and we hope the weather is with you and that plants ;O)))
Hopefully we won’t have to bundle up the flowers.
Those flowers are darn pretty and so are you!
Thank you.
now that i have a terrace i can finally have outdoor flowers. the only problem is that they are replacing the rails so we can’t go out there. can’t wait.
That will be nice for you.
Your Mom went all-out, didn’t she?! The plants and flowers are all beautiful!! Hope it doesn’t get too cold for them!
This place makes flowers easy. We will be watching the weather for another week or two so they don’t freeze.
Each one is gorgeous but OMCs you steal their thunder with your adorable hats and bandanas!!
Hugs madi
Being born in England, I’m a hound who is all about the hats!
BEAUTIFUL! My mom wishes we could have some of those lovely, northern flowers here in Florida. Happy spring…finally! XOXO, Sparkle
You all have flowers all the time. I think in the north when they are only around for part of the year, we appreciate them more.
WOW!!! So pretty!!! Your mom has good taste! Let’s hope they are not going to experience a taste of Old Man Winter
We will be keeping an eye on the weather every night.
Gosh, aren’t they beautiful!! No wonder your Mom wanted to get them out to enjoy them. We usually wait until Memorial Day here. One year I got anxious and planted some early and lost them all to a freeze! But as long as you keep an eye on things and can cover or bring them in, there shouldn’t be any issue.
Since we only do pots, we can always move them inside if needed. Mom just didn’t have time to get them later in the month, so we have them early.
Mom went to perennials. They pretty much come up when they are ready. They don’t follow the rules. Sometimes the crocus come up in the snow, other years the tulips are very late, like this year they aren’t appearing until May.
We’ve seen those flowers pop up in the snow around here too. Mom only does potted plants, so we don’t have anything coming up on its own.
OMD…We can’t believe your Mama is such a rule breaker!! Well….at least it was for a good cause. What colorful flowers she got for your porch!!

She always says, rules were made to be broken, but that doesn’t apply to dogs. Not fair.
Wowzers! Your mom went wild! Those are such cheerful and beautiful flowers. I can see why she couldn’t bear to have them in the garage! You need to warn her ahead of time if it’s going to get cold, OK Emma?
In the meantime, enjoy!
No cold weather here, or in sight! Bummer is there was a big rain storm last night and it seems to have really smashed some of the flowers. Hopefully, they will perk up again with some sunshine.
It looks like your mom found some good things! We’re finally starting to see some flowers pop up in the yard and in the parks, too. It’s so nice to see bright colors again!
The leaves are coming out here now and the flowers are starting to make a slow appearance too.
We never plant outside before Good Friday. It is a rule from my father-in-law and I continue to honor it. LOL!
Holy planting! If we planted the day after good Friday everything would be frozen!
