Back on Mother’s Day, Bailie and Mom had an afternoon of vehicle sniffing. Bailie has been doing really well with vehicles, so they hoped to get a title. There were four searches, each with two hides.
The first search was a car and a boat on a trailer. Bailie was anxious to get to the sniffing and headed right over to the front passenger side tire on the car first.
She sniffed around in the rim to find the exact spot of the odor.
Carefully, she located the spot where the odor was at. Bailie is always very soft and gentle when she searches.
Next, she gives mom her alert signal for finding the hide.
After getting paid for the first find, she moved right towards the boat trailer. There is no rule stating only one hide can be on a vehicle, but especially at this level there would normally only be one per vehicle.
She was right on the second hide in the trailer hitch.
As always, Bailie gives her alert signal so she can get paid. Two hides down, three searches and six more hides to go. Two of the searches were outside, and two were inside in the hockey arena. It looks like ice, but it is just a cement floor. Unfortunately, for the second search Bailie was spooked. She wouldn’t go in the building, then she wouldn’t go into the hockey rink, and she wouldn’t search the vehicles. No one knows what it was that had her so upset. She went on to pass her third search which was outdoors.
The final search was again in the hockey rink, two small cars. This time, she was just fine going into the building, and the rink. She was actually ready to go.
Look how she is headed right for the front right wheel on the first car. There must be odor there.
Now look at her! This is typical Bailie, and it makes Mom nuts. She knows there is odor there, but she decides not to alert on it, and she moves on. See her eyes? Kind of a, “Ha! I know it is there, but I’m not telling now!”
They kept going on to the next little white car, all the way to the back passenger side wheel, where she stuck her head into the wheel well.
For this hide, she gave Mom her, “Duh, it is right here!”, kind of alert.
They moved on, back towards the first car. Remember, Mom has no clue where the other hide is, but it must be on the little black car. Bailie knows full well where it is, but will she tell?
Whew, she gives Mom the alert on the second pass. They found six of the eight hides, giving them an L2V leg. Mom was a bit sad because Bailie did really well except for the one search where she was scared for some reason. Hopefully they will get another chance to do some vehicle sniffing, and earn their title in the not to distant future.
Thank you toΒ Caprise Adams for the wonderful photos as always. My GBGV Life purchased these photos for our own use.
yes the eyes had it in that picture LOL… was that your first boat or do you know such swimming cars Bailie?
She has searched boat trailers before. It is fun to search different vehicles.
She looks like she was more settled, and ready to work that day. Good job Bailie!
She was really doing well except for the one search where she was scared for some reason.
Who would have thought sniffing vehicles could be so much fun?!?! Way to go Bailie!
It is a lot of fun, but probably not for kitties.
Looks like Bailie did great. But won’t mom always wonder what spooked her?
BTW, I would expect a boat on a trailer to be a very difficult search. After all, they probably have all kinds of interesting residual smells that could distract a dog.
They are not too bad really. Farm machinery is much more difficult. We have done that too.
Who knows what goes through dog’s heads sometimes? When I was walking Luke today, twice he stopped and didn’t want to go the way I wanted. I don’t know why, other than that maybe it was a bit off from our normal route.
We think Bailie and your Mom did great, next time they’ll ace it!
Thank you. It was a bit disappointing, but Bailie did have three good searches.
What wonderful photos, she really captured the moment!
She is our favorite photographer!
I love seeing the things you have to search for hides! Y’all are a great team. Sending healing thought for your paw.β₯
Thank you. We have a feeling it may not be the diagnosis we are hoping for, but we will get through whatever happens.
Great overall job Bailie and love the way you kept your Mama guessing!!

Yes, Bailie loves to play with mom’s brain in searches!
That was a great description!!! The photos are so clear that I could see exactly what you were talking about!
Thank you. Caprise takes such wonderful photos of our searches.
Great job. Sorry something spooked ? you!
That was a bummer!
