Madison wanted to remind everyone to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. She is having trouble understanding why she can’t play chase and wrestle with Bailie right now. In place of the wild games, she has taken to enjoying simple things.
Ever since she was a tiny puppy, Madison has enjoyed ripping small branches off the trees and bushes in the backyard. It seems to be fun for her to run around with them and sometimes, just gnaw on them.
Thankfully, she doesn’t eat them. It seems to make her feel happy chewing the as they are soft being just ripped off a living tree.
Madison has no control over many things in her life, like the situation with Bailie right now. A stick, however, is something she is able to control, and it is a lot of fun for her. I think it relieves her stress from not understanding what is going on with Bailie.
This stick does seem to comfort her somehow! Do you also enjoy the simple pleasures in life such as ripping a stick off a tree and chewing on it? My mom has so much stress right now between work and Bailie, she says she might actually be considering chewing on sticks!
Try tequila, works better than sticks.
LOL! She is crazy enough without alcohol!
She’s chosen a good path – ripping a branch and not ripping furniture. Are there pups around for her to have a playdate? if Ballie can’t wrestle and run, you may need a 4th.
Good luck and I agree with Ellen Shedlarz. I make a mean margarita.
Madison has a lot of friends, and will go on some playdates, maybe daycare now and then depending on what the outcome is from Bailie’s appt. tomorrow.
you are right madision the simple things make life so special… and even when they are small all together become to something big… I wish we would be closer then we could wrestle around till your sis feels much better ;O))
She may be small, but she is a paw full. You two would have a blast!
If chewing on a stick gets you through, then we all should try it.
I think Mom might give it a try soon!
Rye likes to rip sticks off my plants, too. But my lilacs haven’t bloomed yet, so I keep telling her that she can’t rip them up! She doesn’t like to be denied those small pleasures π Hope Madison is adjusting to the current situation!
Both my sisters have kind of resolved themselves to the fact that Mom is now very mean and no fun. They still try to get Mom to let them play, but are more just hanging out looking bummed about the situation.
Hope those sticks work for you Madison! When we get frustrated we go search the backyard for anything we can find. Sometimes it’s even tasty cat poo!!!!
Oh my! Mom prefers she sticks with chewing sticks.
Stick to the stick for now pretty Madison!
She is a good little one, but she does get impatient…but so do we all.

It’s the equivalent of worry-beads for we humans I reckon… Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Could be. Sometimes she does wear sticks when they get stuck in her furs.
Madison is so sweet! Hoping she will be able to play with her sister soon!!
We all hope so too.
Tell Madison I can relate to her confusion. I too am used to Bailey being in all of the actin. I hope the sticks and Mom can fill that void until Bailey’s back to her ole self. Hugs to all…
Madison is a bit frustrated, but Bailie is sad. She doesn’t get it why she can’t play and go outside like she always has.
Madison is a smart girl and we’re glad she’s finding ways to entertain herself. We hope your Mom can find a way to relieve some of her stress too! Thinking of you all…we know how tough this must be.
Yes. There are a few too many things going on right now and one more like the ACL starts to tip the teeter!
Hey, my blog is down until further notice due to a hack attack. We will be back as soon as we can.
We started sending Rosy off to day camp one day a week…She has really enjoyed the running around with her friends…we are pretty lazy. Mama is thinking about a home made agility course in our backyard for her, maybe that would work for Madison?
Madison goes to agility class once a week, and nose work twice a week. We are going to set up some playdates, and will see what the doc says about Bailie tomorrow. Hoping for not such bad news, but ready for bad news if it comes. Mom doesn’t want to have to mow around more stuff in the yard. We have our tunnel she puts up sometimes, and Madison could go to daycare now and then.
Madison is stunning. β₯ I feel sorry for the two wild girls not being able to play. We are sending prayers and love that Bailie’s appointment goes well. I hope your work settles down βΊ
It’s a circus around here right now and that is without the girls doing their wild pants thing. This afternoon can’t come fast enough as we really want to find out what needs to be done for Bailie.
Hope dat Bailie’s appointment goes well.
We sure to do. Thank you.
All of my Newfs have chewed on sticks when there wasn’t anything to do. I let them have all the sticks they wanted as long as they spit out anything that they chewed off. It seemed to be a great stress reducer and I kept an eye on them. Praying for Bailey.
Bailie likes to get big sticks and bring them home, but she eats them, so they are not allowed. Madison seems to enjoy harvesting her own, and she does not eat them, thankfully.
Aw, I can so relate with your Mom’s “why this, why now” frustration. I was there in 2013, when one-year-old Ducky was a handful while poor Callie had to deal with a torn ACL. Callie was still an active girl back then and hated having to take it easy. Shadow, while as active as Callie, was more laid back – like you are now – and was a big help to me in caring for her older sister. But Ducky was already enrolled in daycare six days a week – to give her older sisters a chance to have their “Mom and Us” time. It was an absolute godsend, especially with a dog like Ducky who lived for “hyper speed”. I still take Ducky to daycare once or twice a week. It is SO worth it! She’s usually only there for 4 or 5 hours, but she’s worn out by the time I pick her up.
Tell your Mom that regardless of the outcome of tomorrow’s appointment, she needs to allow herself some alone time to regroup or even just do nothing. I used to put Callie in her softside crate before leaving to take Ducky to daycare. Shadow would stay right next to the crate to keep Callie company. Then, on my way home from dropping Ducky off at daycare, I stopped at our local Panera Bread for coffee, a breakfast sandwich (or pastry), and some alone time to catch my breath. Usually it was only for a half hour or so, but it was enough to just collect my thoughts and relax so I could give Callie and Shadow the attention they needed when I got home.
The three of us are all really mellow and are content lying around the house most of the time, but now and then, my sisters are ready to rumble and that is hard. Mom is still running and taking long walks with Madison, so she is getting exercise. We may send her to daycare depending on what is in store for Bailie, but we have had bad luck with catching colds and stuff there which also keeps us from doing sports if that happens. We will see. Mom is really looking forward to the weekend with no dog sports for a change.
We all need to listen to Madison a little more, thanks for reminding us.
My mom says the same thing.
