My sisters and I had to prepare a July birthday dinner Minnesota style for Mom yesterday. It wasn’t too hard, as we know her pretty well. Each of us was responsible for certain parts of the meal.
I started out by taking the car to the bakery to get a triple chocolate cupcake. Mom loves anything chocolate, and I know her favorite place to get cupcakes, not far from home.
The place is called Small Cakes, but Mom says the flavor is huge. She often goes there to buy cupcakes for different occasions. They make pupcakes too, but I didn’t get any of them as they only had two left. We have marrow bones on Sunday nights anyway.
Mom loves corn on the cob, and it is a big food here in Minnesota this time of the year. Everyone talks about how there was always grilling, and corn on her birthday since she was a little girl. Bailie chose to head up the corn department. Hopefully she won’t get that pesty corn silk in her furs when she husks it.
Baked potatoes are something Mom loves with butter and sour cream. Madison got the potato job because we figured it is something she can’t mess up. She is still a bit young to be doing much cooking.
I chose the most important part of the meal, the meat! Mom is 100% carnivore, and loves a good steak. I bought a nice rib eye for her. Just in case one “happens to fall off the grill”, I purchased two of them. What could be better than a nice grilled steak?
We all decided to take a selfie with Mom on her special day. Because there is no way for us all to fit into one selfie, we did individual ones instead. Madison was first. She is not real good at getting herself into the photo. Part of her tongue is missing, but with her squirming around, it was the best they could do.
Bailie did a great job with her selfie. Could she pose any better? Look at that jet black nose!
Of course, I didn’t do a selfie. I had a friend take a photo of me and Mom at our nose work trial on Saturday.
Mom had a great birthday, and she says spending it with us is just perfect.
Happy Happy Birthday to your mom, we love the selfies!!!… and wow you got the meat job? …oh that’s the job I would like too… do you need a helper? maybe for next year ;O))
I think I have it under control. Sure hope one doesn’t land on the floor!
Happy Birthday to your very special Mom from all of us! Y’all sure did it up right!
We made sure she had a real nice day.
Happy, Happy Birthday to your Mom!! I love all the selfies, and the photo of you and your Mom from your nw trial! I’m a carnivore, too…give me a good steak or sauerbraten any day of the week!
My mom likes to gnaw on steak bones too, but I decided not to get a t-bone.
Sounds like a wonderful celebration for a wonderful person!
Thank you. We like to spoil her sometimes.
Well you girls have put us all to shame! Good thing my sister Lilly and I have a few months to try to get ready for mom’s birthday-I don’t think we could ever match how awesome you and your sisters did! Corn AND potatoes AND steak AND chocolate cake!!?? Holy cow what an awesome dinner you made for your mom!! The best of everything! Happy Birthday to your mom. Good job Emma! your doodle friend Dash
Thanks, Dash. Sometimes you have to go all out for your mom. They always do stuff for us. Bailie will be getting the corn silk out of her furs for days, but it is worth it.
Happy Birthday to your mom! She sounds a lot like my mom – she loves corn on the cob, potatoes, and anything chocolate as well!
P.S.: This is Ruby from The Daily Pip. We changed the name of our blog to http://www.myrescuedlife.com
Mom can eat healthy too, but she loves a hearty meal π We have to visit your new blog. It’s been so crazy busy with Mom’s business, we are short on time lately.
Happy Birthday to the mom!! Looks like a great way to spend a special day.
Hanging out together is always the best.
Happy Birthday,Joy – your girls did yours up right!
Thank you. We have to take care of our mom.
OMD! Your special birthday dinner sounds like heaven! I LOVE corn on the cob, baked potatoes and steak. #PerfectMeal I’m glad your mom’s birthday was pawsome. She is lucky to be surrounded by such great cooks. We will have to visit the Small Cakes cupcakes close to us.
Our tip is the lemon drop cupcakes in the hot weather. They are to melt for! Their cupcakes are not cheap, but ours has a buy 10 get on free card, and the taste is worth the price!
We just knew you girls would make your Mom’s birthday special! That meal sounds yummy!!
In some ways, it was kind of a farm type meal. Do you guys grow corn?
We just love your Mama and are soooo happy she had a most pawesome birthday! Boy you guys know how to do birthdays! Will you please come and help my Mom celebrate hers in October? BOL!! Barks and licks and love, Dakota and Mom too!
Bummer, no corn on the cob that time of year…just the stuff that isn’t fresh. You boys could order some of her favorites to be delivered if you don’t cook.
What a great Birthday meal. I love corn on the cob! Happy Belated Birthday, have a great next year.
Sometimes Mom just makes a bunch of corn on the cob, and that is the meal.
Happy Birthday and many more. Your pup are awesome and do such a good job at making the party.
We all had a fun and relaxing day.
Happy birthday wishes to your mum. Looks like she had all her wishes granted for her special day.
It was a perfect quiet day of catching up at home and hanging out together.
Happy birthday Mom!! Looks like the girls did a great job for dinner! ?
