I earned a new nose work title last weekend! Just a few days after turning twelve, Mom had me entered in a Level 2 Interior Element Trial, just ten minutes from our house! I’ve been in a few trials at the Hasse Arena before, and actually earned my Level 1 Interior Element Title there.
It was a heat wave weekend, but no matter what the weather, I will work and work. My sister Bailie tends to quit, but not me. The temp was in the low 90’s with high humidity. Lucky for me, these trials are just a few hours long. I put on my nose work gear, and tried to not roast in the car while waiting for my turn. Mom covers our car with the aluminet blanket to help keep things cool, and I got to use the brand new high powered fan. It really wasn’t too bad.
I was in a super good mood Sunday, and had a lot of energy too. Mom said it was a lot of fun to be with me because I was clearly so happy. I also got to see a lot of my human friends who were at the trial, and I love that. I worked real hard, and in four searches found seven of the eight hides. In my last search, there was a loud noise that scared me. The clock keeps ticking, so while I gathered my wits about me again, I lost some valuable time. In the end I ran out of seconds before I could get all the way to the source on the last hide. I had a leg from a year ago, so I only needed to find six of the eight hides anyway.
Once again, I’m the first GBGV to earn an L2I Title. It’s fun being the first, but Bailie has started creeping up on me and is now also holding a few firsts for our breed. Being as it is still in the family, I guess it is alright.
Mom says I am the most reliable partner she has, and she loves to search with me. I don’t lie, and I always work hard. This year I haven’t had many trials as the luck of the draw was not on my side. This is my last NACSW trial for this year. I’ll be trying AKC Scent Work in November, and get back to NACSW in the new year.
That is awesome Emma, huge congrats!!!
Thank you. I’m quite happy.
So proud of you!
Thank you. Mom says I did a great job.
That is super fabulous Congrats congrats… you are simply the BEST!
Thank you my friends.
Pawesome! Congrats to you and Mom for your great teamwork!!
I worked hard and did a great job.
Oh congrats, we’re very proud of you and we knew you still have the nose to be a champion!
Mom says I always amaze her.
Big congrats. That’s so awesome!!
Thank you. I’m really happy.
Even though we have collies, who are better known for their herding ability, I would love to try this. I actually had a guest write a post about doing K9 nosework with her collies. (The series is to show how versatile the collie breed can be). Anyway, this is on my list of things to try, if I can find someone offering classes in our area. It looks like so much fun!
And congratulations! I love seeing a senior dog still having fun and remaining active!
That is one of the great things about nose work is you can do it from puppy through your senior years. Even blind, deaf and blind/deaf dogs participate. A wonderful sport.
You should really try it. It is such a great sport for life! Go to the NACSW site to see if there are instructors in your area.
Congratulations, Emma! You don’t let anything slow you down when you set your mind to something!
I was pretty speedy for me in my searches too!
Go Emma!! What a wonderful belated birthday present!!

Nose work is always the best gift for me.
We are so proud of you! Of course, you are always first with me. β₯ XXOO Bentley
Thank you. Mom is proud of me too.
Yay, Emma! Congrats. I love that photo of you with your mom because it is so clear how much you both adore each other. And that is what counts!!!
It doesn’t matter how much sniffing we do, she is always amazed, and I always have fun.
Well done. Congratulations!
Thank you.
You are such a terrific ambassador for our breed, Emma! Thank you and your mom for all their hard work. You make us proud! Chablis and Elbe
I just love doing my sport. Thank you.
Good job, Emma. You and mom must be SO proud. It’s great that you have found a sport that you love and excel in.
I do really love it so much. It makes Mom sad I’m already 12 and didn’t start this at a real young age. Hopefully Madison will be a lot like me the more she does nose work. She already loves it. Bailie is take it or leave it, but she is her own hound.
