Welcome to the Trick or Treat Giveaway Hop 2018!
The Trick or Treat Giveaway Hop is sponsored by KONG, Wellness Pet Food, Petcurean, Only Natural Pet, DOGTV, Caru Pet Food, Treatibles, Noahβs Bark Dog Treats, West Paw, and P.L.A.Y.. This is not our first rodeo, nor Trick or Treat Giveaway Hop. We’ve been creepy participants in all four years! I was in charge of the trick in year one, Bailie in year two, Madison and Bailie in year three, and this year, Madison is taking on the job all by herself! The hop runs from October 18 – 30th, and is once again being hosted by Kol’s Notes and Beagles and Bargains. This year is hauntingly amazing with almost $1500 in prizes to be given away! Enter below in our entry widget, and enter on each participating blog for even more chances! Don’t miss the daily flash giveaways on social media either!
The Trick To Take A Bow!
You can catch more vampires with blood than with honey. This is the concept Madison used in deciding to learn to take a bow for the trick this year. She figures monsters, ghosts, and other scary creatures would take it easy on her if she greets them with a polite bow.
Learning to take a bow is pretty painless for you and your dog, and it can also be a funny trick to use.
- Make sure your dog can do a stand stay.
- In a stand stay, put your hand under the hip area to keep it up, and lure the front of the dog into a down position with some tasty treats.
- Release dog back into stand.
- After several times, start saying “bow” when she is in the bow position.
- Don’t practice the trick for more than a few minutes at a time to keep it fun for both of you.
If your dog is like we are, you can have them wear a hat or other “decor” once they know the little trick.
Be careful of spooky things while your dog works on her bow! Madison says, “Holy smokes, it that a tarantula on my derriΓ¨re?” It does appear to be a friendly tarantula, probably because Madison is using her polite bow. Can your dog do a Halloween bow trick to get some treats?
Now it’s time to cut through the witches brew and get to the heart of the lizard, aka the treats, aka prizes!

Those were most wonderful bows and that giveaway is amazing, some pup sure will be happy!
Lots of pups will be thrilled!
Remy is working on putting all four paws on a target for agility training.
That’s a good one!
I can’t wait to try this with my two you made it sound so easy.
It is easy if you have a cooperative dog. Bailie had no interest, but Madison learned it in about 2 minutes the first day.
Take a bow! Wow! what a trick!!! Great work Madison.
Madison seems to be moving towards super star dog mode at the age of two.
we will try it to learn a bow… and yes that is a giant tarantula… run run run!
You boys could wear bow ties and then bow. Handsome plus, plus!
We would probably like to start with a simple hand/paw shake.
If you learn shake, it’s easy to move on to give me five. We all learned that real easily.
Our dog is blind now, but one trick I would like to teach him is to balance something on his nose.
I bet that would work even if he is blind.
I would love for my Boston’s to learn how to bow. I think it is so cute.
It fits Madison so well because it is a playful look, and she is very playful.
That’s a purrfect bow, Madison. Pawkisses for a Happy Thursday???
She did a great job!
My three dogs already do this on their own, but not on command. It’s more a precursor to laying down for two of them, or stretching. It is a cute trick and I would love them to do it on command.
We all do it too, but until now, not as a command or holding it for photos.
I would like to teach my dog to heel.
That is tough, good luck.
Good job, Madison….what great photos, especially holding your bow with that huge spider on your butt! We like this trick and it sounds pretty simple to train. I definitely want to try this with Luke.
Thank you. It is pretty easy to learn.
I would teach them sit and stay.
That is important.
catch a frisbee
I would like my dog to learn to fetch her kong toy at treat time. I always have to search for it.
i would like to teach my girls to weave between my legs.
That always looks fun.
I want to teach Max and Jaxon place command. Enjoying all the different tricks . We will be adding them to our list.
Puppy school is teaching that around here, but we didn’t ever use it.
I really want to teach him to roll over, he will be one on the 19th and he has been really great with training.
Bailie does roll over, it is fun.
She can now bow after receiving her awards!! Good luck to all the entrants.
Great idea! We will have to ask her to do that.
I would like to teach Gunner how to roll over
Only one of us can do that, but it is a good trick.
My dog passed in June of 2017. Was always happy with the tricks that he knew. My favorite was kisses. Miss him to pieces.
Sorry about losing your dog. Mom can’t imagine life without a dog, so sad.
My dog Myla knows how to bow so I’m hoping to teach her some leg weaving.
Sounds like a fun idea.
I would like my dogs to learn to balance a treat on their nose and then flip it to enjoy the treat.
We haven’t mastered that one.
My Peachies really smart! I want to teach her how to fetch MY items, not just her toys!
We are smart, but not at all into fetching. Good luck!
MAdison you are so silly, love it!
She makes a cute little clown witch.
I want to teach my dogs to pick up their toys and put them back in the basket..
And then leave them in the basket for a while, right?
I would love to teach her how to balance her treat on her nose!
Nice idea.
I would love to teach my dog to pick up her toys after playing.
would love for my Roxie to learn how to shake hands
I would like to teach my dog to army crawl.
We did that last year.
Sounds pretty easy! We’ll give it a try…but not sure how Moxie feels about bowing to us. She wants us to bow to her!
I just want to teach her STAY. She is wild and crazy. UGH
I would love to be able to teach my dog how to use and flush the toilet.
I would like to teach my dog how to play dead.
I’d love to teach my dog to stay. He gets so excited but we’re working on it.
I want to teach her how to fetch MY items, not just her toys! A great example would be my hair brush in the mornings! Crawling and jumping thru a hoop would be great tricks too!
I’d love to teach my dog to pick up his toys after he drags every last one out!
I would love to teach my dog to sing!!
I would like to teach my Mini Dachshund not to alarm bark. That would be a novel trick for a Dachshund! π
We always look forward to the Trick or Treat Giveaway week…we always learn so much from our friends!
xoxo,
Jakey & Arty
It’s so much fun every year!
I am hoping she will learn to ring the little bell we have mounted by the door to go outside.
I would love to teach her to roll over …. that would be cute!!
Would love to teach a high five!
Delilah does a bow on her own sometimes, but I’ve never been able to teach it to her. But I think I’ve got a plan now! Thank you!!!
It’s easy to train, and fun to show off.
My sister wants to train her dog to take treats nicely from her hand instead of grabbing them from her. π
Love to teach my dogs to speak
To play dead!
Mini would love to win some of these great prizes! I forgot that you did this every year! It’s so much fun! Good Luck everyone!
As for a trick I would like to teach, I am currently working on a few different ones while also practicing some old ones!
Sounds tricky, LOL!
We forget too, until we look back.
I would love to teach my dog how to roll over. Maverick loves learning new tricks!
To walk backwards.
