Make sure and stop by Falls Park if you are ever in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mom, Bailie, and I went to Sioux Falls over the weekend for AKC Scent Work. We had some free time on Saturday and were told we had to visit Falls Park. It is very interesting to see, and we had some fun. We also got to add another state to our lists of states visited. Bailie now has twenty one, and I am up to eight.
First off, let me say it was sooo cold in Sioux Falls! Our trials were all outdoors, and the humans were frozen to the core. Mom insisted on visiting the park despite the cold and wind – teens with up to thirty mph gusts of wind. The weekend was supposed to be a three day mommy and me trip with Emma, but instead we went along. All weekend we did what Mom wanted to do with Emma, and she talked at us a lot about our oldest sister. It was very sad, and difficult, but we still managed to have a great weekend in Emma’s honor.
Mom took us to visit Minnehaha Falls, where we live when it was frozen last winter, and funny thing, this one was partially frozen too! Bailie said the whole falls area reminded her of Utah with water. She traveled through Utah, and saw all the red rock a few years ago.
With all the small falls over the rocks, it kind of looked more like a decorative home fountain of some kind, but it was super pretty! Going on a cold, day in the winter meant it wasn’t crowded, which was a plus.
There were a few signs saying no swimming, duh, I mean even dogs can sense the danger factor. We were able to climb on the rocks to get a closer looks in some spots. Mom always made sure we all stayed safe when we did that.
The biggest falls had so much force and water. It was interesting to look at from only feet away. I wonder if it too will freeze when temps dip below zero? That is something I might never know as I don’t plan on coming back in the cold.
Bailie struck a pose closer to the big part of the falls. Sometimes she thinks she is some fancy model. I just let her do her thing if it makes her feel better.
We climbed out on the rocks a little bit to shoot this photo looking up at the entire falls area. They have a cafe with a great view, that would be fun to visit in nicer weather, but I doubt dogs are allowed. We are allowed around the park, thankfully. Geez Louise, that wind sure did a number on our head furs! Oh well, it was a fun little adventure on our road trip.

Our friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard is hosting a nature Friday blog hop for the winter. I think Falls Park is a perfect fit. Stop by and visit some of the other blogs in the hop.
Those falls sure are pretty! We have falls in our downtown area and they are quite pretty.
There are so many different kinds of falls. I’ve only seen three so far.
We went there a few years ago, but it was April so a tad warmer. It is a pretty park, and the falls are great.
It was a really nice park. We were frozen, but impressed.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrr – it is so beautiful but we can feel the cold right through our bones.
We love winter and cold, but we had been outside all day, so we were pretty chilled.
Brrrrr!!! That even looks cold! What an adventure My favorite photo is the one of you two looking at the falls. Awesome adventure!! Emma would be proud. Have a good weekend girls! your doodle gal pal Lilly
It was really interesting to see. I’ve been to the falls by us, but it is always frozen, so the running water was interesting to me.
WOWZER!!! that is gorgeously cold!!! SO glad you could accompany your mom. Good luck with the dog adventures. I’m staying under the covers. Your friend, Chablis.
p.s.Elbe, dumb kid that he is ,would stay out all day in that weather , howling for others to join him.
We all love the cold weather and snow, but after being out for hours already for scent work, we were ready to get warm.
So glad you got to see Falls Park. I grew up near Sioux Falls. Itβs farm country. It can get very cold there.
In the Twin Cities where we live it gets super cold which we don’t mind, but that wind was so nasty!
My mom says the falls will freeze in the winter because even the mighty Niagara Falls can freeze in the coldest of winters! Beautiful pictures of you and your seester. Have a fabulous weekend. My mommy left me last nigh because she had to do a sleep study, and after Atlanta I was frantic without her. I was screaming when she got home. I love my mommy so very much! XOXO, Sparkle
So sorry you don’t do well without your mom. We love our mom too, but we are fine with being home alone sometimes too. I wonder how your mom could study if she was sleeping??? Hmmm…I better ask Bailie about that.
Hari om
Crikey malicky, Bailie and Madison – you actually managed to make me feel like it is warm here in the Hutch (where it really isnt’!) Very beaitful, no doubt about it – but ccoooooollllllldddd…. Thanks for braving the elements to bring us this repawt. hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx
We enjoy the winter weather, but having been outside for some six hours already, we were starting to need some indoor time.
What a fun place to take the pups. They do love to explore as much as we do.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to the pups. β₯
We always love exploring and sniffing new places. TGIF!
What a pretty place – it sure looks cold though! We’re glad your Mom was able to keep this trip and got to enjoy some time with you girls, even though we know she was thinking of and missing Emma a lot.
Her eyes looked a lot like the falls quite often, but we are starting to get used to that. The trip was fun, and good for all of us.
Ahhh, my it’s a good thing you have your fur coats on…it looks SO COLD! And this lady behind this comment is a wuss…don’t like cold any more (and I grew up in the Colorado mtns.!) Live on the Gulf beach now. lol
Some people never like the cold, and some don’t like it as they get older. We all still love it, but warming up inside is the very best part.
Oh how I would love to explore Falls Park. (So long as I could keep my paws dry). And you guys did some heroic posing in the chilly weather!
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Maybe we were frozen into our modeling spots?
Looks so cold but then again it is cold in Minnesota too! Your pups are beautiful!
We love the cold, but the wind we could do without. It makes it not so nice.
oh my those falls are beautiful, even in the cold!!!
In the cold, you have the place almost all to yourself, and can explore and see everything without any crowds. Mom loves that.
What beautiful falls! We will have to put this on our list too…except we will probably go in the Spring or Summer when things aren’t quite so chilly cause our Mama is pretty wimpy about cod weather!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
Funny, we didn’t see any cod, but it sure was cold with the wind gusts. It is a very nice park, and we recommend it.
We haven’t been to the Dakotas. Y’all are in part of the country that we have never visited. It is on our bucket list!
Come on up and bring the boys! Make it a fun road trip but I’m not sure winter would be the best time for southern visitors!
Beautiful pictures!! We love falls and go even when the water is frozen. Mom however isn’t really thrilled about the cold.
Falls are amazing when they are running, but there is something so interesting about them when they freeze. With newfies, your mom should love the cold π
What gorgeous falls! But of course you girls didn’t skip the park just because it was cold! I’m sorry that it was sad (lots of things will be sad for a while)… but you and the girls did the best thing, honoring Emma.
Cold weather never stops us. We know things are going to be sad for a long time, but Mom especially, just has to get through it.
Wow what a beautiful site.
Definitely worth seeing if you are in Sioux Falls.
