How does a rotisserie chicken turn into a stuffed rabbit? That is exactly what I was wondering when it happened the other day. First, you must know, my mom loves chicken, especially rotisserie chicken, and I love stuffed rabbits.
You see, it was a simple thing really. Mom didn’t feel like cooking. The HyVee ad came in the mail with a deal on rotisserie chicken, and Mom began drooling like I do for a bone. She decided to pop over to the store and get one since they were on sale for like two dollars off. Hyvee is just five minutes from our house, so it is easy to grab things there.
Now for the problem. They did not have any more of the birds ready when she got there. Evidently, Mom is not the only one nuts for chicken in the area. She had to wait ten minutes for the ones on the rotisserie to finish grilling. In the meantime, she somehow landed in the pet aisle where she saw “the rabbit”. It was love at first sight, and she knew I would love it. The only problem is she saved two bucks on the chicken, but spent ten on my new rabbit! What a great marketing ploy from HyVee! Yes, my mom is an easy target!
I do love my new rabbit. He looks real, and he has a squeaker. Squeakers are not my thing, but they don’t bother me if they happen to squeak. I prefer to tote my rabbit around the house proudly like a hunting trophy.
You know Bailie is the squeaker queen of the hound world. She runs around like a puppy, bouncing off furniture, squeaking her toys. Of course, I left my new rabbit unattended, and she grabbed him. For her it was fun to make him squeal, but also to tease me with him.
I know my sister well, and she would tire of squeaking him fairly quickly, giving me the chance to get him back. That is exactly what happened too. The poor rabbit had a belly ache from being squeaked so much!
Now you know how a rotisserie chicken can turn into a rabbit. I was truly surprised to get this cool rabbit, and I am very proud to call him my own. Don’t get me wrong, I still carry around our other rabbits, but this guy is the new favorite. As for Mom, her love of chicken was expensive that day, but she is simply happy I love my rabbit so much. Yes, she did enjoy her chicken too.
What a wonderful surprise for you when your mom came back with her rotisserie chicken! Your rabbit is a cutie!
I really wanted the chicken, but I do love the rabbit too.
Funny how that works. So easy to treat the dogs to something fun.
Mom knows something we would love when she sees it. I guess she knows us pretty well.
Ha!!!! Mom does the same thing! She went to buy a birthday gift at a nearby store. The item she wanted was on sale. She didnβt find the gift she was looking for but she ended up buying me three new toys! They were on sale she said β so why only buy one? I was thrilled and the store did a good job luring mom in!! Enjoy your rabbit! What an awesome surprise!
I think our families are a lot a like. Too bad you don’t live nearby π
The rabbit came out of the hat. Just like magic. It looks like a great rabbit.
I really love carrying him around and Bailie loves to squeak him, but I’m sure his squeaker won’t be lasting much longer. Bailie kills squeakers by over squeaking pretty quickly.
I think that sneaky wabbit made people buy all the chicken just so your mom would have to wait and go hopping over to the pet aisle just to get him. Remember, your mom has been doing nose work and barn hunt longer than you have and she apparently just fell into it naturally as she waited. That Wabbit knew about you and wanted to get of that shelf and go home to you. Maybe he is related to the Easter Bunny and that guy knows all sorts of tricks. We here in Missouri are delighted that you both got what you wanted, but mom is going out to get that chicken – which is also on sale in our area this week too.

Maybe your mom will turn that chicken into new toys for you boys too? Gramma says a deal like that is something one can’t afford, LOL!
That’s pretty exciting and you sure are enjoying the bunny hop!
I really enjoy toting my new rabbit around the house with me π
that is the bestest canine science we ever read… and how good that your mama had to wait ;O))) our mom finds always just trashures when she has to wait somewhere… she has not the eye of a 100% dog mom by now, but we hope she can learn ;O)
I bet she can learn, but whatever she brings home, you guys will destroy. I want my rabbit to stay safe.
i would say you, Madison got the best of this deal. your mom spoils you girls, but then i do the same with mine. went to a my pet store to buy some Kefir and walked out with an 80.00 bill. by the way, i used to love those rotisserie chickens til i read up on them. most of them come prepared and frozen, the grocery stores do not make them. i am not a fan of using salt on my food and they are loaded with salt and preservatives. i used to buy them all of the time. i know Walmart reduces there’s at the several times during the day, because of the health laws, so do other grocery stores. i would love to put mine in the microwave and they would get crunchy.
My mom has been a chicken lover forever she tells me. The rotisserie chickens are probably not the best health food in the world, but now and then they are tasty. We always get a small piece of the meat when she is done. She sometimes likes to spoil herself with something different like the chicken, and it just so happened that I got lucky too.
That was very clever of Hy-Vee! Enjoy your rabbit.
If only they knew what the chicken delay could do.
That is a super cute rabbit! We hope you got a little of the chicken too!
We always get a small piece of meat when Mom is done devouring the carcass.
That’s a mom, always thinking of how she can make her ‘babies’ happy. It sounds like a win-win. Except for Mom’s wallet. π
The green papers flew out of her wallet, but we were all quite happy.
Ohhhh you have a pawesome Mama!! I would have grabbed that bunny too, it’s darling and you sure love it sooo much! She was meant to go for that chicken!!
She never bought a chicken at HyVee before, but felt the need to do it, so it was destiny!
It’s a successful trip to the store when everyone ends up happy! I don’t think we have any stores around here that would have that yummy looking chicken and such nice dog toys as well.
Mom didn’t even know they sold rotisserie chicken until she saw the coupon. It’s nice to have lots of things in one store.
Your mom and I are so alike. I would have saved the two bucks just to spend 10 dollars on the rabbit. It’s how we roll.
Have a woof woof day and weekend. My best to your awesome mom. β₯
That is wonderful thinking! Happy weekend!
I love bunny wabbits too! I used to remove squeakers from my toys, but not so much now. All in all, that was a win-win for you and your mommy! XOX), Sparkle
I don’t destroy my toys, just Bailie squeaks them to death. Squeaker stays in, but no longer works. I fear that may happen soon to my rabbit.
I love my lamb chop. I walk around holding him and making him squeak continually. I drives mom crazy and when she’s trying to do some work, she takes it away from me.
I don’t worry because I know she’ll give it back. Duncan
My mom lets Bailie squeak as long as she wants to and sometimes it is a very long time!
It sounds like everybody won! Rotisserie chicken is always fabulous and your rabbit is furbuous!
It ended up being the perfect run to the store!
The stores are counting on many of us to come in for the specials and leave with a lot more than weβd planned.
Thatβs a great toy, my friendβs dog, though, would ruin it. Small Bad Dog, The Terrorist Terrier says that squeakies must die. She was once given a squeaky toy for Christmas that had 8 squeaks in it, and sheβd killed all of them by the end of the day.
My rabbit will probably stop squeaking one day because Bailie loves to just squeak non stop sometimes, but since I’m not into squeakers, it won’t bother me at all.
I’ll take the rotisserie chick-hen! It’s my favorite.
We got a small piece of the chicken and it was nice and tasty!
We like rotisserie chicken here, too; but I don’t buy any dog supplies at our grocery store.
Normally my mom doesn’t either, but she was trying to keep busy while waiting and ran right into the ideal rabbit for me.
This is the sweetest story, thank you for sharing! Your mom is ingenious!
Thank you. We love storytelling around here π
That is quite a story. The most important part is that you both ended up happy!!! Chicken for her and rabbit for you. Yipee!!!
Bailie and I each got a small piece of the chicken too, so the day was even better!
We love stories with happy endings…especially when they involve new toys for us!

Rosy, Jakey & Arty
I’m not big into toys, but I do really like my new rabbit.
