Hells Gate Haunted House, here we come! Last weekend we piled into the family car and headed east on a haunting road trip to Illinois. Bailie had a Nose Work Trial at a haunted house in Lockport. I was along for cheer leading and protection.
We spent the night at a nice hotel about half an hour from the trial site. Bailie found the bed to be extremely comfy, and did not want to get up in the morning. Thinking about it later, it was obvious, she was going to be a lazy dog that day.
The Hells Gate Haunted House sign greeted us as we arrived on site at around eight in the morning. Parking was plentiful, and the site was off, kind of in the middle of nowhere.
Mom went to the briefing for the Nose Work Trial, and I went to the safety briefing. Oddly, no one else came to the safety briefing, leading me to believe things must be all safe and sound.
Inside the haunted house for the trial briefing Mom was met with all these big statues. Let me just say that my mom would never go to a haunted house, as she does not like scary things. This was an exception because it was daytime, and nothing was meant to be scary.
There were three searches in rooms inside the haunted house. Bailie is sitting outside the door, waiting to go in for her three interior searches.
The first room was the library. There were a lot of things to sniff around on in the room. Bailie worked hard, and found the one hide that was in the room.
Next up was a really empty room that someone put a table in the middle of. Bailie worked really hard sniffing all over the place, but in the end correctly determined there were no hides in that room. Remember in NW3 Trials, all searches have an unknown number of hides from one to three, but one interior room can have zero.
On the way to the third interior search room, Mom and Bailie had to pass by something creepy. These pigs on shelves were right there in the tiny hallway they needed to walk down. Mom thought they were nasty, Bailie didn’t even notice them. Both said they were glad they didn’t have to run into them in the dark!
The final interior room was a small kitchen packed full of stuff. Bailie went in, and got right to work. She did a great job and found two hides which was correct. As for her other searches, they did not go well, so once again, no title for Bailie. Mom was a bit disappointed, but she was happy they had the chance to search in such a fun venue!
While Bailie was resting between searches, Mom took me for a walk down the road. We stopped to check out this tricked out bus. Mom did hear a bit about how they run the haunted house around Halloween. The guests park down the road, and board this crazy bus to be taken to the creepy fun.
This crazy, creepy bus takes the guests to the haunted forest, where they have to find their way into the haunted house. Bailie had to wait at this haunted entrance before one of her searches. If you are close to Lockport around Halloween, and if you enjoy a good scare, check out the Hells Gate Haunted House. We hope they have a trial there again so maybe I can have a chance to search.
