Oh, The Places Dog Sports Will Take You is our way of saying, “Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!” Each year Blogville celebrates Dr. Seuss on March 2nd. Since we don’t blog on Saturdays, we are posting a day early this year. Emma was the original Dr. Seuss fan. Of course, she loved the book, Go Dog Go! because of all the hats. She wrote her own take on that book back in 2012 called, Go, Emmadog, Go!
To honor the genius, Dr. Seuss, we also wrote him a little note. Of course, the
Feline Cat in the Hat is kind of a Dr. Seuss logo.
Bailie and I tossed around some of our favorite Dr. Seuss books and decided to write our own rendition of Oh, The Places You Will Go! We named our version, Oh, The Places Dog Sports Will Take You. The name is perfect for us since we travel a lot for our sports. Hope you enjoy our little story.
Oh, The Places Dog Sports Will Take You
It’s off to the races!
Today you will drive.
You’ll travel to fun places!
You can’t wait to arrive!
After hours in the car
You will arrive somewhere far.
Everything will be new
An experience just for you.
There will be new scents in the air
New things to see and do.
Please remember to share
Discoveries are best when not just for you.
Hotels will be your new home
A bed, a desk, and a chair.
Rooms are small with no space to roam
But you will like it there.
Tourist sites with abound
All around town.
Walk the streets to see what’s around
Even in the middle of downtown.
You were born with a great nose.
You’re a smarty pants who knows
That nose of yours is a pro
It will tell you where to go.
You’ll trial at lots of schools
Sometimes even near pools.
Perhaps a fairground
Where pesty squirrels abound?
Maybe in a place like a park
With trials lasting into the dark.
You can smell a rat in a bale
At home or away.
It’s a more interesting tale
When you travel to play.
In Minnesota, Iowa or Illinois
New trial sites are fun to sniff.
A new venue is not a detrimental ploy
You’ll easily catch a nose work or scent work whiff.
Tracking tests near and far are hard to find
Sniff as you may, sniff as you might
You lead your human as they are good as blind.
Find all the articles and you’ve achieved your plight.
Traveling adventures have been had
Hopefully ribbons have been won
Mom’s driving wasn’t even that bad
But you’re tuckered out from so much fun.
No matter where you go or what you do
There’s no place like being home for you.
The End.
Hope you enjoyed our little story, and take some time to check out other blogs with their own Birthday Wishes for Dr. Seuss! Thank you to Chimera, Molly, and Jakey for hosting this party!

XOXO, Sparkle
So very sweet 🙂 Thank you for being you!
We rewrote this poem from “Horton Hatches the Egg.” It was mom’s favorite Dr. Seuss book growing up. She used to read it sometimes to her Home Economics classes when she taught child care. It had such a great moral. Good luck this weekend. XOXO, Sparkle
We know Horton hears a who. I think all his books are so fun.
We loves your poetry!
It’s tough to write in rhymes but we do our best.
Fabulous!!! What a wonderful poem. Well done!!!! Hooray for poems and for Dr Seuss! have a great Friday, your friend Lilly
You should read your little brother some Dr Seuss books. It would be fun to do on the weekend.
Oh how fun. Mine will post tomorrow. My first time.
Have a woof woof day and weekend. My best to your mom. ♥
We don’t post usually on weekends and are traveling, so we had to put ours up today. Hopefully we can get around to other posts later in the day.
Dr Seuss was our meat and potatoes growing up! Our dad would scoop us all up and dump us on the sofa to read the books to us – long after some of us were old enough to read them ourselves. FOND MEMORIES!!! Thanks for your renditions!
My mom says her dad would real Little House On The Prairie books to her. Good kid memories.
What a totally pawsome poem to celebrate Dr. Seuss girls, thanks for joining the fun!!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty

It’s a pretty short story, but thank you. We enjoyed coming up with it.
Wow! You are very talented. I loved reading your rendition. I love Dr. Seuss and used to use them when I taught the stuttering clinic and the speech clinic.
Thank you. They are super fun books with good lessons too.
Whoa! That was a great poem. I think it might be better than the original but don’t tell that Seuss guy.
It is definitely shorter, but fun to write.
Wow, what a run. We feel like we were along for the fun. We are sure many ribbons were won. Happy travels and tales when the day is done!

One has to have a fun hat for Dr Seuss!
What a wonderful Seussical poem!! I hope that you are doing a dog sport today!
We are actually in Sioux Falls, SD for Scent Work all weekend, so the poem is a perfect fit!
Wowy, you put a lot of thought into your poem and what a cool idea to do a sports rendition! It sounds like you get to travel all over and see all kinds of interesting places. I play sports myself — pounce at the laser mousie, whap at a snakey string, scale the highest carpeted tree, and leap over obstacles. The Basset likes to shuffle around at the carpet like she’s a hocky stick and does short sprints on the carpet track. Tee hee hee. Happy Seuss Day!
LOL! You are so funny! Your kitty sports seem pretty fun. You must be in real good feline condition!
Well done! The good Dr. would have enjoyed that, i think.
Thank you. We love creating our own version of Dr Seuss stories.
Happy Dr. Seuss Day! That was a great story- Dr. Seuss would be proud.
Thank you. It was fun to create it.
