Composition, Center Frame Portrait is the challenge for #DogwoodWeek14. It sounded like an easy challenge until we read the fine print, “Center Framed composition is a great way to isolate your subject. Use this knowledge to create a portrait that exhibits loneliness.” Oh dear, loneliness? Hmmm…we like happy photos, and lonely sounds sad. Nevertheless, we conquered the challenge as best as we could. I started the process taking my chalkboard out into nature, all alone, me and my board.
Mom said, no problem to this challenge. She would take Bailie out in the middle of a field so she looked all alone, and probably lonely. Unfortunately, this was a huge fail. Bails insisted on looking cute, even tilting her head to the left and right. If anything, she looks slightly irritated, but not really lonely.
Second attempt was to take Bailie to a baseball field that was deserted. This photo is a little bit better, but she still doesn’t give off a real lonely feeling. The center frame portrait part is definitely the easy half of the challenge. I guess one could say Bailie looks alone all by herself up on that bright yellow box, but lonely? Not so sure she looks lonely.
As they were leaving the park, forces from above provided them with the answer to their photo troubles. This is the photo we all chose for the challenge this week. Center frame portrait it is for sure. Bailie doesn’t look super lonely, but if you let your imagination go, the loneliness will hit you. Mom sees in this photo, a dog who was left all alone behind a locked gate as her human drove off and left her…thus a lonely dog.
Things learned this week:
- Try to find a lonely looking GBGV, it is nearly impossible as we are always happy.
- Does lonely have to be sad? We haven’t decided on this point, but it has us thinking.
- Mom learned how to use some more settings on her camera to hopefully make her photos sharper in the future.
- We also found burst mode finally which will be great for action shots.
Do you think we met the challenge this week. Is Bailie looking lonely?
Weβre joining Comedy Plus for the Awww Mondays blog hop.
We think all the photos are terrific but the last one is just perfect. Too cute. You all have a really good day.
You too π
Those are all wonderful and you sure nailed the centered look!
Centering is the easy part.
You picked great center photos! Well done.
Thank you. Getting the loneliness is the hard part.
I love the first picture. She does look a little sad.
I think she was confused by Mom going far away for a photo and her being told to stay.
Great choice!! I think that’s just perfect.
Thank you. Some of these would be easier if we had time to be out in nature wandering around looking for things, but we don’t have the time for that, so we do what we can.
Nailed it! Bailie looks so sad and lonely being left behind. Madison, you looked very sad and bedraggled in the first photo. I just got in trouble because I heard an imaginary sound and ran across the room unplugging Mom’s computer. WOOPS! XOXO, Sparkle
Oh dear. We can do almost anything around here, but anyone going near the laptop is in deep trouble. I was feeling frustrated because it started raining and Mom was trying to rush me. I’m sure you know, beauty cannot be rushed!
Perfect photos! That last one grabbed at my heart, though! I could picture each of my girls watching me leave them behind and I nearly cried.
That is the feeling it is supposed to portray, even though Mom would never leave Bailie anywhere.
You are indeed always very happy pups and very good looking too. Very Awww worthy.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday. My best to your peeps. β₯
Thank you for hosting all the hops during the week.
you picked the best one… if we can use our phantasy and our imagination to ponder about a story around a photo it is the RIGHT one…
Since we like to be a happy place, lonely is a tough one!
Pawsome photos!!! A lonely pup?!?!? No, no, no, a HAPPY Pup is bestest
Loves and licky kisses

We don’t like lonely either, but it is the challenge, so we did our best, or at least Bailie did.
Those are some beautiful photo’s, you nailed it!
Thank you. It was fun trying to get the loneliness into the photos.
They are all lovely photos, but your interpretation of the last one is perfect.

Thank you. Sometimes things just present themselves.
We agree, you totally nailed it!

Thank you. It was tough trying to get Bailie to look lonely, but we did the best we could.
She does, we think you nailed it too! She definitely looks like she got left behind. Great job.
The idea came to Mom just as she was about to give up and drive home. Things happen for a reason.
Youβve got me thinking, too. Alone does not have to be sad, because alone is not always lonely. Anyway, that pictures does imply a dog that is lonely for her person to come back.
Lonely is kind of versatile. It wasn’t until we started trying to get a photo that we began to think about the meaning of lonely or loneliness.
I like your choice. She almost looks like she’s barking, “Come back, Mom!!!” It’s good to look happy all of the time. Bentley looks sad a lot but he is a happy hound.
No complaints about looking happy except for when you need a lonely photo. Some dogs just naturally have a more sad look, but it doesn’t mean that is how they feel.
We con”curr” – you nailed it – nothing like a dog watching you leave and being left behind the fence. Chablis & Elbe
We think it does portray lonely pretty well.
