There’s a new Scent Work Title in town, and it belongs to me! This is a photo of me back in December doing an advanced container search. For those of you who don’t participate in dog sports, or scent sports, Scent Work is an AKC sport, Nose Work is an NACSW sport. We enjoy both as they are similar, but Nose Work is more difficult, and our preferred scent sport.
To earn an overall Scent Work Title, a dog needs to pass three searches in each of the four elements – containers, buried hides, interiors, and exteriors. I started my advanced quest with two legs in containers back in December 2018. In the Advanced level, there are two hides in each search, and a distractor.
You may remember we traveled to Sioux Falls for Scent Work in March. I finished my Container Title, Interior Title, and Exterior Title there. Unfortunately, I wasn’t real good at buried hides, and I only earned two of the three legs I needed. All the sniffing I did in Sioux Falls wore me out. It was also way below zero, so super cold that weekend, but I powered through.
Mom wants me to stay a level ahead of Madison so we can each work on a different level. Because I only needed one leg in buried hides for my Advanced Title, I entered the local trial last weekend. Mom signed me up for two searches, just in case something went wrong. I was amazing according to Mom. I passed both my searches earning my Advanced Buried Title, and my Scent Work Advanced Title. Mom was so happy, it was crazy. You see, we have some motivation issues, and she was so proud of my work, she couldn’t believe it.
Now I have my Advanced Title, and I can start working on the Excellent level. Madison already started on Advanced, so she can work on finishing that up. My new fancy name is: Ethos Irish Cream TD SWN SWA RATO CGC NW1 NW2 L1I L1E L1C L1V L2C NW3-V NW3-I According to Mom, I now have to finish up my Senior Rat Title. It’s always something with her! I’m thankful for all the opportunities I get to use my nose, and I sure do love all the pretty ribbons I have earned too!

We were hoping you would get a PBGV brother or sister from Duluth again, but I’m sure Puffin will work out fine once you get used to each other. I’ve never had a younger sibling, so I don’t know what I would do. Bailie says it takes time to adjust.

My mom is super proud of me doing so well for a change. Lately I haven’t been doing very well at my trials, but this was a lot of fun.

Mom has a master plan for us in our sports, but we tend to make our own changes which sometimes frustrates her. It is all a journey, and we need to enjoy the trip, pass or fail, we learn, and get to do things together. Sometimes it is perfect, and those days are extra special.

The RATS is the senior title which is funny! I’m a girl who is her own hound which is challenging for Mom. When I feel like it, I’ll get that last leg for my senior title. For now, I’m happy with my new SWA title.
