Today, I’m thankful for people who care about me. My mom is always looking out for me, and since several days ago, she has been monitoring my belly. Lucky for me, she took me to the vet yesterday to get me on the road to recovery. While I dislike going to the vet, they are really good at what they do, and they too care about me.
On the weekend, Mom noticed some pink/red spots on my lower tummy. She figured they were just bug bites and they would go away. By Monday one was pretty red, and they were getting worse, not better, so she called our vet. They agreed they are most likely bug bites, and Benedryl would solve my problems.
Mom checked my belly a few times each day. It appeared one spot was going away, but not the others. Oddly, I was not at all bothered by the spots, no licking or itching at all. By Wednesday afternoon, the one spot looked so red, Mom was getting scared. She got me an appointment to see the vet because things were getting worse. I was my usual nervous mess at the vet, and would not even eat the cookie they gave me.
After trying to look at my belly, the vet decided to take me in back, put me on my back to shave the area, clean it, and get a better look. I was not a willing participant and had to be basically dragged away!
It only took a little while for me to get all shaved and diagnosed. Apparently, I don’t do well with gnats or other types of biting bugs. I have many bug bites on my lower belly which caused me to have a reaction sending bacteria into the area. Basically, I’m fighting myself by sending my own bactera, and this new bacteria caused a skin infection resulting in the red rings. What a stupid mess! I am not a fan of bugs! Luckily, it is nothing serious and will hopefully be gone soon after taking some antibiotics. Once they shaved me, the circles became really apparent. Mom says it hurts her to just look at them, but they don’t bother me at all.
I actually had a similar infection on a lot smaller scale last summer under one of my front legs, so I guess bugs and I really are not friends!
I was returned to the exam room so Mom could pay my bill, and you can see how much better I was feeling already. In the photo my by my back leg it looks red, and that is the worst of the circles. Now if the silly red color would go away, I will be back to looking good! Thank you to those people who care about me so much like my mom and the vets at the clinic we go to.

Those bug bites sure don’t look good but I’m happy they don’t bother you. I do hope you figure out a way to not get bitten though. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
It seems to happen the last part of June, so we will be more careful next year I guess.
Oh my, that looks really nasty! I wonder what could be done about future bug bites? I am thankful those peoples that loves you takes such good care of you, Bailie. XOXO, Sparkle
I think I may need bug spray, but it doesn’t help my mom much, so I’m not real optimistic.
Hope you get better soon Bailie! Xox
Me too, thank you.
OMD, those bug bites look nasty! I can understand why your Mom was getting scared! I’m glad they don’t bother you, though! I hope the antibiotics work fast!!
Those red circles are definitely nothing to ignore. Hopefully my meds will kick in and my spots will go away soon.
Ouch! You tell those bugs to leave you alone. Feel better sweetie!
Mom always tells me I’m a tasty morsel and I think she is right.
Hope all those nasties go way quickly.
I sure hope so too. The spots are really ugly.
Oh my word, ouch. I’m glad you got it figured out though, and you feel better fast.
Pretty scary looking belly I have right now!
Bailie, we are so glad your Mom takes such good care of you, and that these bites aren’t bothering you. We hope they clear up soon – they really are nasty looking. We hate bugs so much!!
It is amazing what a little creature can do to something millions of times its size!
oh no Bailie! I don’t like the vet either. And I won’t eat treats when I am there! Until the end of the visit. I am so glad that you are okay and your mom took such good care of you. Those annoying little bugs–who do they think they are! Take your medicine and enjoy extra pats from mom today, you earned them. your friend Lilly
It is definitely an ugly problem that I have, but as long as I stand, no one can see.
that evil bugs, we hope for a super fast recovery and we hope that mean buggers will stay away from you
I’m done with being a buffet for bugs!
Bugs are the worstest and especially when they bite. Feel better soon, Bailie!
Mom gets eaten a lot too. I guess we both taste good to bugs.
I’m thankful that your mom is so watchful. We were the same way with our Little Bit. You have to be ever vigilant.
Have a woof woof Thankful Thursday. My best to your smart mom. โฅ
I never showed any signs of a problem, so I’m lucky she happened to check my undercarriage the other day.
Hope you feel better soon Bailie. My Alex also is allergic to bug bites so he sympathizes with you.
It is a terrible thing, really!
Oh, I bet your mom was so worried! Those red spots look scary. I’m so glad all is well – have a great week.
She is still worried, but hopefully they will get better fast.
We are glad your Mama followed her feelings and took you to get checked out at the Vet. We hope the red spots go away real soon!
xoxo,
Arty, Jakey & Rosy
I sure hope so too as they are not nice to look at.
You poor baby!!!!! Thankfully your Mom is observant, the bugs are probably worse this year because of all the rain everywhere. It has been so rainy. You probably have to be careful in woods and grassy areas. Sending (((hugs)))
Most likely I got them just sitting on our lawn, but who knows. Hope the circles fade fast.
How awful! While i know we have medicine to prevent flea bites, and iโm sure your mom uses it, i am guessing thereโs nothing to stop these pesky gnats.
We have the flea meds, so we know it is not fleas, but it is most likely gnats. Yuck.
Bugs are no fun. Hope those bites are all cleared up soon!
Mom thinks it is starting to look better on my tummy, just a little bit.
Darn bugs. Glad you got all fixed up.
I think there is a slight change for the better finally. Hopefully it will all clear up in the coming days so I don’t have to go to the vet again.
Glad your mom pays close attention to you! those bug sometimes bug us two footed moms more than they bug you 4-footed kids. Still, infections are infections and god to be gotten rid of!!!
Bugs are nasty. Mom also has bad reactions to certain kinds of bites, so she understands the issue.
Sending oodles of poodles of quick recovery wishes. We’re not fans of bugs that bug dogos either.
I’m half done with my pills and things are fading. Hopefully the process will speed up!
