Do you celebrate National Dog Week? This week is National Dog Week, and I have five ideas to help you celebrate. Of course, at my house I think every week is our week, but not every dog is so lucky. National Dog Week is the idea of Captain Wm. Lewis Judy, who started National Dog week in 1928. Yes, this is the ninety first year! So, here are the ideas my sister and I came up with to help people celebrate dogs this week!
1. Get your dog a new toy! If your dog enjoys toys, a new toy would be ideal. Olivia has so many toys, but she always gets excited over a new toy. Mom recently got her some Vikings toys from the NFL dog line. Who knew the NFL sells dog stuff?
2. Humans are always so busy, and we dogs hang out patiently waiting for their attention. This week, try to spend an extra five or ten minutes a day playing with your dog. Mom has been squeezing in some extra sports practice with us, which is like playing.
3. Grab your pup some new treats! It’s fall, and our taste buds enjoy some new fall flavored treats just like humans do. We all love the Halo Turkey and Cranberry treats. They are super healthy, and taste great. Even Mom thinks they smell good enough for her to eat, but she hasn’t tried one yet.
4. Take your dog for a nice walk. Go someplace new, or to a place you don’t go as often. We walk several times a day, but are always happy to walk even more. Remember, puppies, like Olivia should not go for long walks.
5. Whether you have a dog or not, donating something for dogs to your local shelter is a great idea. Dogs without homes really appreciate your time, or donations.
It’s easy to celebrate National Dog Week! What are you doing to make it special for your dog?
We’re thankful to be nicely spoiled dogs, so weโre joining the Brianโs Home Blog Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
oooh national dog week? thaks for that onformation we write our wishlist now and ponder about some nice surprises for pups too ;O)
Have your mom go shopping and bring shreddables back for you boys!
Everyday is dog day in this house no love the last one.
Here too, but not at every house, probably.
It is always dog week in this house!
As it should be!
It has always been National Dog Week in our house, and in my parents’ house. Since I was five years old, I’ve never gone more than a few months without at least one dog in the house. They’ve always been part of the family; and have never wanted for anything.
Mom says we are spoiled rotten and have no idea what a tough life would be like, but she likes it that way.
All great things to do and we did those with our Little Bit for almost 13 years. We miss her so.
Have a woof woof National Dog Week. My best to your mom. โฅ
Your Little Bit was so loved and I think Little Bit knew it too.
It’s always National Dog Week around here too, but Luke says we need to do all these things anyway!!
Mom just adds extras to these items and that is our celebration. Spoil Luke a bit more than usual.
Those are all terrific ideas. Happy National Dog Week sweeties, y’all are super special. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
You kitties are super special surviving shelters or feral life! We can’t imagine such things, and are thankful for that.
5 great ways to celebrate
Thank you.
Those are great ideas and that is a very cool football, Olivia!
She likes football with all the tackling, so the ball fits her well.
I, Duncan, think that Dog Week in my house is almost every week. Mom has a hard time buying me different treats. As for toys, my Lamb Chop stuand my ball. I have a basket filled with toys, I don’t play with them. After a few days I ignore them. She gives them to other dogs.
She found an A+++++++++ treat. It’s Candied Sweet Potato. I love them and after she gives me one I put on a soulful face and stand in front of the cabinet until she gives me another.
We are not big fans of sweet potato here, but lots of dogs love them. We have tons of toys, but Olivia is the one who plays with most of them. Bailie and I each have a few favorites we play with now and then.
Great suggestions. There are many healthy dog treats available in the fall.
There are lots of nice flavors for fall.
Thanks for hosting! I didn’t know that this week was National Dog Week! I’ll mark it for next year.
We forget every year, but always see a reminder somewhere.
Great tips girls! We especially like the new treats tip!

Bailie and Olivia love new treats. I’m suspicious and often won’t even try them.
Those are great ways! When i think of National Dog Week, i always remember Snoopy carrying a sign.
That is a cool memory. Mom doesn’t remember seeing that as a kid.
These are awesome ideas! We are going to tell mom to do all of them!! ๐
A pup can never be spoiled enough, right?
These are five excellent things you can do for National Dog Week!!. The get the new toy would be on top of my little ones list all the time. Thanks for the excellent post that you share. Have a fantastic day.
Thank you. Since we have so many toys, sometimes Mom puts a few away, and getting them out again is like a new toy.
I didn’t even know this week is National Dog Week. I like the idea of donating. I should donate nearly all of Dakota’s toys……..he only plays with one or two and pretty much has no interest in new ones. He was really never the type who played with a lot of toys to begin with.
We all love toys as puppies, but I don’t play with them much anymore. Bailie has a couple favs she plays with pretty much daily, and Olivia is really into toys.
Happy National Dog Week! We love y’all!
We love you guys too! Hope you are getting extra spoiling this week.
Happy Dog week! We have new beds and treats; does that count?
