Olivia earned her first title over the weekend, making it a huge weekend for her! We were both at the Barn Hunt trial, and had a lot of success! We are super proud of Olivia’s work and how much fun she has doing it. After entering three Novice runs and qualifying in all three, she earned her RATN Title. Her official name is now Ethos Loving The Northland RATN.
This is the third course she ran, the one where she earned her third Q, and her RATN Title. In Novice, to title the dog has to go through the tunnel, climb (all four paws up on a bale), and find the rat. There are three rat tubes buried in the course, one is empty, one has litter, and one has the rat. We have the basic rules on this post from when we first tried Barn Hunt.
On Saturday, Olivia’s first run was tough. She forgot her normal alert on the rat, but Mom waited long enough to be able to tell which one Olivia thought had the rat, and they got the Q. In her second run, she got fourth place. On Sunday morning, Olivia earned second place. She seems to be catching on to how the game works, and what to do in a trial. We are super happy with her, especially since she is just six and a half months old! A dog has to be at least six months old to enter a competition.
I also ran four times in Masters. My issue is the tunnel. I simply don’t want to waste precious hunting time going through a stupid tunnel. If tunneling wasn’t required I would have had my Masters Title a long time ago! Nevertheless, on Friday, I got a Q, and first place, by doing the tunnel, and finding just one rat in the course. In Masters, there are one to five rats, but Mom doesn’t know how many are in our course. Mom and I have to work together to determine when I have found all the rats. Now I have two legs towards my Masters title. Hopefully there will soon be a Masters tunnel at school so I can practice before our next trial in a couple months.
All in all, it was a great weekend, especially with Olivia earning her very first title! Last night she also got the news that she is off the alternate list for her tracking test and is officially in! Sunday was one awesome day for Olivia!

Mom just wants her to get experience and have fun for now. Titles are great, but we want her to be having fun learning all about her sports and so far that is what she does.
