It was another big weekend in sports for the puppy, Olivia. We went with Mom to Sioux Falls for an AKC Scent Work trial. Originally, Bailie was going to go too, but because she and I are at the same level in most elements, it made more sense to just take one of us, and I got the spot. The trial was held at a greenhouse which made for some interesting searching.
We each got to do four searches each day. Saturday was containers and interiors, Sunday was buried hides and exteriors. My weekend was a real bust! I passed exactly zero of my eight searches. I did pretty well on exteriors, but still missed a hide in each search. The main issue for me right now is my fear. I still have hormone issues from the whole mess I went through during the summer. It can take many months for things to straighten out after my surgery. I get scared, and then I can’t really search or tell Mom when I find hides. The big hall in the above photo for some reason scared me. My container and buried searches were in there and I was a wreck – couldn’t work at all.
On the first day, my interior searches were super late in the day, and they too were rather creepy. At one point while I was working I went into a real tight space and couldn’t get myself back out, so we wasted a lot of time with that. Anyway, it was just not my weekend. I’ve never done scent work without at least getting some legs. We are working on my fears and hope by the time I go to a trial again, I will be better.
Olivia was just fine at the greenhouse and had some really nice searches. She is just seven months old, so we don’t expect a whole lot from her. Nevertheless, she constantly amazes us with her abilities. She had some legs from the Iowa Trial, and she only needed a leg or two for a couple elements. The first day, she passed both her container searches, so all she needs is one more leg and she will have her Container Title, and that will also finish her Novice Title. This weekend they only offered two searches, so she could only earn two legs. She then did interiors where she only needed one leg for her title and she passed her first search to get that Interior Title. She passed three of her four searches on Saturday.
Sunday Olivia had two more title chances. She started off passing her buried hide search to earn her Buried Title, and fourth place in the search. Next she tried her paw at Advanced Exteriors. It was really windy, and she not only had a few miscellaneous items to search, but also part of a semi truck. It took her some time, but she found both hides and got her second leg. Her second search was tough too, and she only managed to find one of the two hides, but she worked and did her best which is all we can ask for. Olivia’s name is growing and is now Ethos Loving The Northland RATN SEN SIN SBNΒ It was really another great weekend in sports for the puppy in our house!
We are happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
I’m sorry you had a frustrating weekend sweet Madison but Olivia sure did great!
Yeah, my hormonal things have really messed up a lot of things but hopefully in time it will all be fine again.
So, let me get this straight. You guys spend your weekends sometimes searching stuff? Hmm, and this is fun? I hate to search for things because I usually am not so fortunate and often come up empty-handed. Normally, I find if I want to locate something all I need to do is not look for it and begin looking for something different. That’s when I will find what I was looking for originally. π Have a furrtastic week and thanks for visiting, my furriends. π
Being scent hounds, we love to sniff things out, and we are pretty darn good at it! Mom only likes it because she thinks it is always amazing.
The good with the not so good. She’s a young pup and she’s already a superstar if you ask me. I think Olivia will do great things when she gets older. Just a feeling.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. My best to your peeps. β₯
We hope she keeps her enthusiasm and great work ethic. Olivia is Mom’s experiment, so we don’t really know how things will go, but we suspect she will be a rock star.
You are both stars!
Even the super stars have some off times I think.
you are a super scent hound and you work with enthusiasm and power and youn are on the way to win 87 ribbons or more. for a 7 month old pu this is really a super result and you will be a dream team soon…
She is really doing well and has two important test this week too. Hopefully she will stay on task.
That’s a lot to learn for a puppy ! I have cats they do the opposite of what you want them to do !
We live with two felines ourselves and they are nothing but trouble for us.
Yay for Team Orange! I am sorry you had a ruff weekend, Madison. Some weekends are like that, even in Iowa! XOXO, Sparkle
There is a first time for everything. I’m pretty much done with nose and scent work for the rest of the year, so it will give me time to get straightened out.
Aw, Madison, you dear, sweet pup! You’ll get there. It takes time to heal from hormone issues. Be gentle with yourself. β€οΈ
Great job Olivia! My goodness how accomplished you’ve become in your seven months!! π
Mom is just so sad at all the damage being in heat and the phantom pregnancy did to me. A lot of it is now gone, but some things may take more time. Bailie is working on learning to trust me again too. Nature can be cruel.
Madison,
When you try your very best it is a win win and I’d give you a ribbon, dang tight space threw you off your game. I must say you look very beautiful in your photos. Dad of angel Madi was interested in your breed when he saw your initials on our blog, I told him what the letters stood for.
Hugs Cecilia
I may not have passed my searches but tons of people told me how adorable I am, and that is always a good thing! Glad you knew what the GBGV initials stand for!
We are so happy Olivia did so well!! Madison, I am like you lately…and become scared of things I haven’t been scared of before. Hopefully it’s just a phase for me, and we hope it’s just that your hormones need to settle a bit!
xoxo,
Rosy
Mom is sure it is the hormones because it was really bad and has gradually been getting better, but I wish it would hurry up and get better!
You’ll do better next time, Madison. You and Olivia are such smart girls and such SuperStars!
I’m a super sniffer, that much I know. Mom knows in time my fears will subside and I’ll be able to do a lot better.
Yay for Olivia! She is quite a talented puppy! We’re sorry to hear you’re still having a tough time with your fears, Madison, but we feel confident your Mom will help you work through them and all you need is some more time. β₯
My fears are at at least 70% better than during my crazy time in the summer. I just have a problem with big open spaces, but we hope it too will go away as my body gets rid of the nasty hormones.
Madison, i am sorry it’s still tough on you from the hormones and hope that dissipates soon. To me, you are brave to even try!
Olivia, congratulations!
The first changes back were big, but now things have slowed down and we just hope the hormones go back to normal so I’m not fearful.
You’re both champions in our books! π₯
Thank you. I’ve never had a bad AKC trial, so I guess it was time.
Both of you rock! Keep plugging along.
The sports season is almost over for us this year, but it means we have time to rest and work on things which is a good thing.
Well Huge congrats to Olivia, and Madison, your hormones will settle down in a few more months, take courage! You’ll be back to yourself before you know it. It took us awhile too, but we made it and boys are’s as complicated as girls. Hang in there!
the GBGV Boys
We will keep trying and working on things. As long as we are patient, we should be good.
She is really doing amazing for her age. Congratulations.
She does so much, Mom often forgets how young she is.
