Olivia added a new title and a couple other accomplishments in her last week of being seven months old. She says the whole thing is really exhausting for a puppy, and she is glad things are calming down for a while now.
Last Tuesday was the Beginner Obedience Class graduation. Twenty Two dogs attended, making it a huge event. Not only did the pups get their diplomas, they also competed in several obedience tests – healing, sit/stay, down/stay, and recall. Loose leash walking is not a priority at our house, so of course, Olivia and Mom didn’t win that one! Olivia was the winner for sit/stay, and a finalist in down/stay! She did well on recall, but some dogs were super fast. For winning the sit/stay, she got this penguin new toy.
Following the graduation, there were CGC tests (Canine Good Citizen). Olivia signed up a couple weeks ago because she knew she wanted to do this. To earn the CGC Title, the dog must pass the following ten items during the test.
- Accepting a friendly stranger.
- Sitting politely for petting.
- Appearance and grooming.
- Out for a walk on a loose leash.
- Walking through a crowd.
- Sit and down on command and staying in place.
- Coming when called.
- Reaction to another dog.
- Reaction to distraction.
- Supervised separation.
Olivia passed her test on the first try, although the loose leash walking almost got the best of her! With her new title, she now joins Emma, me, and Bailie with the CGC Title.
Lastly, she started her NACSW nose work career. A dog has to be a year old to compete, but you can start taking ORT (odor recognition tests) at six months. Olivia signed up for birch, anise, and clove. She has practiced and can do all three odors. There are twelve boxes in two rows for each test, with odor in one box. Unfortunately, she was a box off on clove, but she passed birch and anise. In two weeks she will try again for clove.
The little one has done quite a lot in her short eight months on this planet, and we are excited to see what she has planned next!
We are happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
