Olivia is bakin’ Bacon Christmas Cookies for Dogs today! Since she doesn’t know much about baking yet, Ginger is kind enough to step in and help her out.Β Emma first invited Ginger into her kitchen to help her with Christmas cookies two years ago. We all know Emma was a fantastic chef, so we figure Ginger can give Olivia some good pointers.
Since Olivia is just learning, she chose a simple recipe. Emma had a fancy Christmas apron, but Mom couldn’t let Olivia wear it – it is still too soon. Luckily, we have a snowman apron for her. It would be a shame to get her furs full of cookie mess while baking. Olivia was quite interested in the cookie cutters. She chose a squirrel, moose head, angle, Santa face, Christmas tree, star, gingerbread person, bell, and a car transporting a tree.
The ingredients are things most folks have in their kitchens already. You will need flour, white and wheat, powdered milk, water, and egg, and bacon grease. Our mom always fries up a bunch of bacon at once and freezes it. She takes all the grease and stores it in the fridge for occasions like this one.
Ginger helped mix up the dough, and then roll it all out. Olivia had a lot of trouble not just diving in and eating all the dough. She is a serious food hound!
With such huge paws, stamping the cookie cutters into the dough was a cinch for Olivia! She seemed to really enjoy the cutting out the cookies part of baking.
After quite a mess with the flour, and a lot of time, the cookies were all on the baking sheet and ready to go into the oven. They sure do look good, don’t they?
These Bacon Christmas Cookies for Dogs are supposed to be crunchy, so we had to wait a whole hour for them to bake, and then they had to cool off. Luckily it is cold outside, so we put them out in the fresh air for about five minutes, and they were perfect for eating! Ginger didn’t care to try any, but she offered to serve them up to us.
Olivia is still in her adolescent thievery stage, so she stole one first right off the counter. Naughty puppy! I guess if they are good enough to steal, they must be pretty tasty! She wouldn’t let Mom take a photo of her eating it, though. If you want to make some of these yums for your own pup, you can grab our recipe and give them a try!
Olivia has the most wonderful face and expressions.
You sure did a really good job baking up some pretty yummy cookies sweet Olivia!
Thank you. Baking is much more difficult than it looks.
Oh Wow! I bet those cookies are good!
They sure are, but anything with bacon is a winner we all think.
Welcome to the kitchen, Olivia! You and Ginger did a super job. Enjoy your snacks this weekend, XOXO, Sparkle
We gave a lot of the cookies to our dog neighbor friends, so we don’t have too many left and they won’t last long.
Oh Olivia you are on the path to be a chef!
Mom isn’t sure I have what it takes, but I’m pretty young still to make any concrete decisions on it all.
The cookies look tasty! Looks like Olivia will be a baker! I will be baking these for Alex this weekend – so far I’ve baked only people cookies for Christmas! Thanks for the recipe Olivia!!
Alex will be drooling because they smell and taste so good, and you will love how simple they are to make. Enjoy!
What a SuperDuper chef you are already, Olivia! Your cookies are perfect and they look so yummy!
Bacon makes anything taste fantabulous.
Great job, Olivia. You rock. I had a couple of those cookies too and they are really good.
Have a woof woof day and weekend. My best to your siblings and your peeps. β₯
LOL, you could eat them, but even Mom declined at our house. She says she wanted us to have them all.
What fun! I miss the baking!!
Mom misses it too, but it is really hard for her to do it without Chef Emma. We will see if Olivia morphs into a chef or not.
who can resist such fabulous cookies? well done Olivia! it’s so great to see you in the kitchen… we love this photos and your recipes!
They are super easy, so maybe even your mom could make you some for Christmas?
Wow, those look and sound yummy!
Oh, trust me, they are. Bacon is always a winner!
Wonderful recipe and it looks like fun to make, too!
Just like making human Christmas cookies, and they taste great too!
Great job, Olivia! Luke wants to know now why he doesn’t get homemade treats with bacon in them! Guess I’d better save your recipe! π
Everyone needs some bacon in their life!
We used to love when Mom baked homemade treats for us. Sadly, with Pierre’s super sensitive tummy, we don’t get any treats made from scratch. Sigh…maybe you can send some to a sad Basset Hound. BOL!
That would be a real bummer not being able to eat whatever you want. I guess for your brother you have to sacrifice.
Olivia you did a great job with your cookies and I bet they taste delicious. I think if Skylar mad cookies they would be peanut butter.
I would like peanut butter cookies too.
