Our happy places during the weekend snowstorm varied from hound to hound. The storm started Friday with the big snowfall in the afternoon into the late evening. Saturday brought in big winds, causing blowing snow and blizzard conditions. Sunday was just plain cold, below zero kind of cold. On Saturday morning I was out practicing my flight techniques. If you haven’t noticed, I love to fly!
After being out in the cold to play or go for shorter walks, nothing is better than warming up in front of the fireplace. Munching on the two pounds of lamb lungs Mom ordered is also a great way to recharge my frozen batteries. These are one of my favorite snacks, but I do share with my sisters too.
Bailie was the queen of the weekend when she captured and killed a rabbit Sunday night. Mom let her into the yard after a walk and within seconds, she had chased down and killed this rabbit. Of course, Bailie was proud. She paraded around the yard for a minute or two before dumping the body, and walking away. Being dark out, Mom only had her cellphone, so photos were all blurry, and this was the best she could get.
They always say killers do tell at least one other person about their crime. Well, Bert is a serial mouser, so after Bailie came back in the house, she hung out with the other killer in the family to warm up by the fire. The two of them are both killing experts.
Of course, the family baby is the innocent one. She spent a lot of time on neighborhood patrol in the front window with her antler. I have her trained to warn us about crime, and Olivia can be loud when she sees something.
I think Olivia was getting bored with being in the house so much, but she didn’t like the cold wind and blowing snow either. Saturday, she spent a lot of the day playing with her toys. This one was her toy of the hour when the photo was taken.
That’s the scoop I dug up about our happy places during the storm.
We are happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
Those look like great happy places. Mine would be in front of the fireplace as well.
It is nice and cozy in the winter.
Poor bunny! Baile must be so proud.
Mom said she was strutting around in circles showing it off to her. That is her second one in about 2 or 3 months.
Did mom have to take care of the dead body? My brother Dash killed 2 rabbits in his life — and left them in the back yard so mom had to get rid of the body. She hated doing that. My brother Chester loves chasing right now, I’m not sure he has it in him to kill … but we will see. I have never killed (as far as mom knows!). It looks like it was a nice weekend and you all enjoyed different parts of the snowstorm! Have a great day. Your friend Lilly
Emma killed over 20 rabbits in her lifetime, so Mom was used to being an undertaker. She loves rabbits, so it makes her sad, but she knows it is our instinct and we can’t help it. A bag and a shovel and off goes the rabbit. We don’t care because we are in for the chase and kill and then on to the next. Serial rabbit killers here. Maybe Chester will grab one some day. He’s still young.
It is 53 here right now in sunny Florida! I love the cold, and my crazy sister does too. She is the first Boston my mom has had that loves the cold and does not come into the house a shivering mess! Bailie, I killed a bunny too but my mom was not happy with me. It is what we were bred to do! I do have memories of Missisnowta and the fun I had. I can’t help but wonder what Puffin would do in the snow. XOXO, Sparkle
Puffin would disappear into the snow! Killing rabbits is in our genes, so Mom understands, but she doesn’t like it too much. At least we don’t rip them apart or eat them, just catch, kill, drop.
we prefer the place next to the fireplace with blankies and pillows…. Bailie we hope that was not the easter bunny who had bad luck that day ;O)
I don’t think so. That guy is busy in his nest making candy this time of year I think.
I recall many years ago, my brother and I had a couple of pet rabbits. I don’t know how it is we came to have them but we did. We kept them in a cage in the furnace room attached to the house. I’m from southern WV, you know coal country, and my childhood home was what was once a company owned house for a miner. We used a coal furnace to heat our home. When Daddy built the room on, he didn’t close up the bottom of the house for some reason so you could crawl underneath it which naturally left that room very drafty in the winter. Anyhow, back to my story. The rabbits were kept in a cage in the furnace room. Those critters were quite smart and they learned how to lift the latch for a great escape. The first time it happened, we heard the neighborhood dogs going wild. That’s when we noticed one of the rabbits running for its tiny little life. Luckily, I captured the half-scared to death critter before it met with some sharp teeth. Unfortunately the next time this happened we weren’t able to save one of the rabbits. Dogs will be dogs. That killer instant is part of their DNA. While most dogs aren’t people killers, there are some that are vicious enough to attack people even killing them. Now, that’s scary! I’m glad your siblings pose no threat to your mom or other humans. The fireplace looks so lovely and comfy. A great place for anyone to stretch out and unwind. π
Mom had rabbits as a kid too. They had a hunting dog and cat who killed rabbits, but her house rabbits were never once attacked. Mom is sad when we kill, but it is in our genes so we can’t help it. We have no desire to kill people, my sisters and I love people.
You three were having some fun times and it’s very cute to see the mighty hunters together!
You kitties would be proud of Bert as he is a super mouser!
Thankfully the bunnies don’t come into our yard or Ducky would chase and kill one for sure, breaking my heart. And the squirrels are too fast for her to catch without help.
It makes Mom sad, but she can’t change our DNA, and we are born to kill prey like rabbits. Our yard is fenced and smells like dogs, so if the rabbits decide to come in, they kind of are suicidal I would say.
I would love to be with you near that beautiful fireplace. So precious.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. My best to your peeps. β₯
That was some might fun over the weekend! Zachary has chased and caught rodents, but not killed any. It was Mia the Toy Poodle that killed the mouse (a better mouser than the cat)!
WOW!!! Way to Go, Bailie! We boys can not match that- although not many wabbits around here anymore – just oodles of chipmunks and we try to team up, but still haven’t managed to catch one. We love your cozy spots. I had one yesterday; but I fell off it ( the leather sofa arm) and jumped – hitting one of the the front windows and shattering it. Mom and dad were up a couple hours longer trying to work on boarding it up against the wind. I did NOT get a scratch. I tried to tell mom that if she widened the window sill a few inches and raised it about a foot higher so I could see better I would be happy to crash (oops, bad choice of words) on it all the time.
Elbe aka LB
Oh dear, that is bad! Olivia is still a clumsy one and often falls off our window bench, but in time she will get the hang of it. Glad you were not hurt!
OMD…What a fun and exciting time you all had!! We are kind of jealous of Bailie…but Mama says she would rather we live vicariously through her BOL!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
Every time a rabbit is killed, Mom is sad, but she sees how proud we are and since it is in our genes, she has to be happy for us. Being the one to remove the body is not a favorite chore of hers, though.
you are sooo lucky to have a fireplace! So cozy! Mom got stuck out in the snow for a half hour by Weight Watchers. She was sooo angry!
Mom always tells people who complain about the cold or being cold that it burns more calories to stay warm. She figures she deserves more sweets when she spends more time outdoors. Odd logic, but it works for her π
What fun that you all have your different ways of keeping yourselves entertained! I love that shot of Bailie and Bert in front of the fire trading their war stories! LOL
Sometimes they seem to be friends, other times they are fighting and chasing around.
It sounds like everyone had time to do something she liked over the weekend.
We are all similar yet different, but it works out.
You know how much I love looking at your snow photos while I am enjoying the 70s most days down here. I wish the cold didn’t hurt so much because I’d love to visit a snowy place just to experience it once.
We are not happy it is going to be in the 30’s again the coming days, far too warm! Warm is a state of mind we think.
Good job, Bailie! I’ve never killed anything before except maybe a bug or two.
I live in a family of serial killers. It sounds terrible, but we just do what we are genetically made to do.
