A long walk at sunrise is a great way to start the day on the weekend. We only run during the week, and we savor the long weekend walks. The world is so quiet, we rarely see other people, and there aren’t many cars. Sometimes it just calls out for a nice Zen moment.
Winter is the only time we get to walk at sunrise since the rest of the year, the sun comes up way too early. The feeling of the cold and snow is invigorating. I’m always trying to get Mom to run, but she says we need to walk on weekends. In my opinion, running on the snow is easier than walking.
Walking in a wooded area, some of the trails are covered in snow, and some are all pavement, depending on how the sun hits them. It’s fun to see the big piles of snow and snow boulders on the sides of the trails.
Once and a while I like to go off road to check out some critter tracks. All the fresh morning smells are music to my nose. Mom says the morning air gets her brain into gear.
This year we are not going out on the ice. With temperatures going up and down so much, it is not safe. It is never safe around bridges, so I just have a look at the lake from the bridge.
I really treasure these long morning walks alone with my mom. It is fun to get all her attention doing something we both love to do. Soon Olivia will be old enough to come along, but Mom promises me I will still get lots of one on one walks. A five to six mile walk does wear me out, but mostly, I’m hungry since we go before breakfast. I thought maybe if I laid down, Mom would carry me the rest of the way home, but no such luck. Do you enjoy going out for a run or walk at sunrise?
We are joining our friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
yes, this year we will have no stars on ice show, the weather is toooooo moody for dancing on ice..
More like crashing on ice than dancing in our experience.
ohhh. Mom loved this. It kind of made her sad. I canβt really do the long walks anymore and my baby brother is almost ready. She loves long walks. I love them to but I am so tired after. Keep enjoying it Bailie!!!
My mom misses long walks with Emma. She loved them up until her last days. Right now with three of us on different schedules with running, walking, and Olivia not going for long walks, it is hard to find enough time for it all. Hope you are doing alright. Maybe you just need to build your stamina.
What a wonderful bonding moment for your and Mom. I suspect early morning is the best time to catch a good scent too.
OMDs 5 or 6 mile walk before breakfast?! I admire you two ladies!! I wake up very hungry some times I can hardly walk to the kitchen I’m so famished.
Hugs Cecilia
Mom can’t eat when she first gets up. She has always run or walked before breakfast. For us dogs, it teaches us that we have to work to get our food.
Lovely photos of your sunrise walk – especially the one of you on the bridge looking at the lake. Here in Scotland, when midwinter sunrise is not until after 8 am, we often walk before or around sunrise and it is Gail’s favourite time of day. (To be totally honest, it is NOT my favourite time of day, I would happily have a longer lie in, but life has dealt me a human who is most definitely a morning person…)
Happy Nature Friday.
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Yeah, Mom is always up at 5, works for an hour, and then we hit the road. I prefer to sleep in myself, but I just go downstairs and sleep more in my bed in her office.
It does look like you were having a fun time on that early out n’ about!!!
I had a great time!
Bailie, you look like you are having so much fun with quiet time alone with your mom. The world is your oyster!
I get tired of sharing all the time, so along time is very special.
Early in the morning is the absolute bestest time of the day, Bailie, but I’m not sure about walkies before breakfast.
We always workout and then eat. It works for us π
I would love to go on a walk with you. You can go wherever you want and stop and check out the peemail whenever you want.
Have a woof woof day and weekend. My best to your siblings and your mom. β₯
That will be a long walk timewise, short distance wise, LOL!
I wish I could get us up and out that early! Morning is the most beautiful time of day.
Mom says you have to make yourself do it for a few weeks and then it becomes a habit.
Mom and me lone time is always the best!! Your sunrise walks sure look beautiful!
xoxo,
Rosy, Arty & Jakey
Cold, crisp mornings with just us two is the best!
Those shots are beautiful, morning is such a peaceful time.
It is so quiet and very relaxing.
I used to be a “morning person” like your mom; but since I retired I’ve gradually turned into a night owl. Still, when the sun is shining and it’s not too frigid outside, Ducky and I do enjoy some zen time in the backyard. One day when this plantar fasciitis and heel spur are gone from my left foot, hubby and I will start taking her to the park again.
Mom has always been a morning person. Who knows if it will ever change. We are alright with it since we are used to it.
What a beautiful walk.
I think you are a little too big to be carried, but you can dream, Bailie! There is a hush in your early morning walkies in the snow which is just breathtaking. Enjoy your mommy time. XOXO, Sparkle
I know I am too big to be carried, but sometimes I like to be picked up and help like a little pup.
Morning walks are wonderful, especially if you don’t have to hurry because of going to work.
Mom works from home and has her own business, so she always allows time for our morning walks and runs.
We love going on your walks! I wish everyone would finally get well here so we can walk and play again.
Maybe you caught the flu from your mom. Hope your whole family is healthy again soon.
That sounds like such a very nice thing for you and your mom to do. I, too, love sunrise outings. Like you, I mainly do them in the winter due to the later sunrise! I love that first photo!
Thank you. It is such a beautiful and peaceful time of day every day, but especially on weekends.
