It was a barn hunt and FastCAT weekend in Boone! We sure had a lot of fun even though it was super hot and humid, the good times prevailed. For me and Olivia, it was out first time trying FastCAT. Bailie did FastCAT about a year ago and also loved it.
The trials were held at the Boone County Fairgrounds. We didn’t take a photo of it, but we found it amusing that there was a big “No Dogs” sign right by the entrance!
Barn hunt was a lot of fun I was flying around the ring, climbing, jumping, totally enjoying myself. Unfortunately, I only got one Q out of four runs because I forgot about telling Mom where the rats were. No matter, Mom and I worked on our issue and it got better each run. Olivia had trouble finding all four rats on her senior runs and by the second day, she was too hot and tired and didn’t even want to hunt. The main thing is we had a good time.
FastCAT we have decided is the best sport ever! You have to check in before each run to make sure you are not in heat, and you are not injured. Olivia also had to be measured. Some of the FastCat guidelines are:
- There are three classes, under twelve inches, twelve to eighteen inches, and over eighteen inches.
- A dog needs 150 points to get a BCAT title, 500 for DCAT, and 1000 for FCAT.
- There is a formula to calculate the mph run by the dog and then a multiplier to even out the scores for the different sized dogs.
- The run is 100 yards long. A lure, normally plastic bags tied on a rope and pulled by a motor, is what we chase.
Olivia ended up at about seventeen and a half inches, and I am fourteen inches, so we are both medium. Being medium means our mph is multiplied by 1.5 to get our points for each run.
We each got in four runs, two per day. At the end, I have about 98 points, and Olivia has 119 points. How fast does a GBGV run? My fastest run was 17.68 mph over the 100 yards. Not bad for being short! Olivia was the family speed winner at 20.86 mph. Everyone says we will get faster the more we do it, so we shall see about that.
At the end of the barn hunt and FastCAT weekend, we each ended up with four Q’s in FastCAT, and I had one Q in barn hunt. What we really ended up with was a ton of fun, and we were wiped out by the time we got back home! Stop by tomorrow to see Olivia go wild seeing the lure, and then watch her do a run.
My GBGV Life is happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
Next, you be at the racetrack winning lots of money.
Now that would be nice!
I’m glad you had lots of fun and I’ll bet you’re both glad to get back to some normal activities!
We love going to trials and traveling, but there is no place as good as home!
I know you and your mom have a great time doing these and that’s a good thing. Being able to do what you love is most excellent.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. My best to your wonderful mom. β₯
It’s been tough with so many cancelled events this year, but we are now thankful for every event we get to participate in.
I am thrilled you had so much fun. You girls are FAST! XOXO, Sparkle
We hope to get faster. There is a PBGV breeder we know who was there with 5 PBGV’s. It’s fun to see dogs similar to us. They are as fast as us, so we need to get more speed.
AMAZING! 7 look alike doggies of a rare breed at one place! Bet the others at the event were surprised.
We always get a lot of questions but this time it was more about the differences in GB’s and PB’s. It is fun.
That looks like a fun weekend! “No Dogs Allowed”?????? Ha!
It was really fun. The no dogs sign really had us laughing.
I’m glad you explained about FastCAT. I thought they used a cat and the dogs ran after it. I need to try this, I used to love to run after leaves when I was young. I tried barn hunt once, but mom ended up having to buy a bale and we were DQd. Neither of us knew what we were doing, or had had any training. I was a stud dog back then. We GBGVs DO have noses!!!! I had hiked my leg on the first rat and bale of hay before my mom even got into the fencing. The trial person was NOT pleased. We decided it was too much waiting around and it was too hot. We watched some more and then went home. It was a bad experience all around., and we did not care for the cliques – no one would even talk to us. Well, I’m so glad you girls have had great experiences! I’m not as fast as I was anymore, but FastCAT would still be fun I think. Height-wise, I am on the fence – 18 inches.

FastCAT is so easy, and anyone can do it. I bet you would enjoy it!
Even though you explained in detail, not sure we understood it all … but having fun and doing what you love to do is what’s important, so bravo for all!
That is the whole point of sports, fun, with a side of success, hopefully!
I Imagine you both had a good time and more good times coming your way. I love seeing your photos here.
Thank you. We had a fabulous but hot weekend. Lots of fun for all.
A great weekend, congrats
Thank you.
What a fun day for you girls. You must have an entire room dedicated to all of your beautiful ribbons!
Our home office walls are covered in certificates and ribbons. Mom calls it a motivation room.
It sounds like you snow lovers need to do most of your activities in cooler weather, but i am glad you had such a good time.
We are happy now because we are moving towards winter again. None of us, or Mom like summer and the heat, but we love our sports so we go out in it.
We forgot about FastCat! That does sound like a lot of fun; Luke would probably like something like that, if not for his bad knees.
We’re so glad you had a fun weekend, and some success!!
We went wild for FastCAT, and can’t wait to do it again!
