Photos and videos of us doing are dog sports make great training tools and memories. We are thankful for all the times there are photographers at events, and videographers. Thank you to Caprise Adams for the photos we have in this post!
Although you may think still photos won’t help much with training, they do actually capture some things videos do not. Today I’m sharing some of the photos from two of my vehicle searches in Faribault last month.
Mom normally sees only my side or my cute little behind. Photos give her a chance to see my face, especially my eyes. See how I am moving in a determined fashion because I caught odor?
The hide is behind the license plate, but I am trying to narrow down the exact location because that is what we are taught to do.
Of course, the best part of all is a happy mom when I correctly find the hide and get my treats.
If you are on our Facebook page, you probably saw the video of my Zamboni search. It’s fun to see it in still shots as well. A good start is important. Mom and I need to connect and I need a moment to see if my nose can catch the odor so I know which way to go first.
In this search, I headed out pretty much walking right past the hide. Whether I catch it or not depends a lot on the air flow. Mom normally lets us choose which direction we go in.
Now I realize I passed something, so I better turn around, go back, and check it out. My change of behavior is something Mom needs to watch for to help her realize where I think the hide may be.
Oh boy, it is right here on the back corner of the Zamboni!
Now for the best part of the game, loves from Mom, and some snacks!
Because interior search areas can be small, and with the virus thing, photographers were not allowed to shoot Olivia’s interior searches. They do, however, mount video cameras that video the searches. You will see in the video that Olivia is pretty speedy and searches very different from slow and steady me. She did really well and did get her L1I Title that day.
Having the photos and videos help Mom learn what went right and what went wrong, and what we can improve on. It is also fun to look back later on to see how we have progressed in our sports. Mom is very happy she has a lot of photos and videos of Emma since she is no longer here. It is still hard for her to look at them, but she is thankful to have them.

Great job! Good thing she doesnβt need to wear a mask.
I bet we could still do our sniffing with masks, but we don’t want to.
The photos and videos are great for many things! I used to video Shadow almost every day after her stem cell therapy – it really helped to see the progress of the mitigation of her cruciate issues. And using the video camera on my phone while Ducky does her free work has really helped me pick up on her hind-end issues. And to realize the previous joint supplement wasn’t helping her any more.
Yep, you can learn a lot from video that you don’t see as it is happening.
I loved watching both of you search, Olivia sure is FAST! I guess that saying is true for Olivia “find something you love and you will never work a day in your life!” XOXO, Sparkle
She is crazy about sports. Mom can barely hold onto her on the leash because she wants to get going NOW!
Beautiful work! Thank you for showing the difference in the stills and the videos for seeing how we work. Very good ideas.
Mom usually just sees us from behind, so it is really fun to see the search from our heads instead.
That was a fun video and the pictures were all picture purrfect! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Thanks for hosting. Olivia has short videos because she is pretty fast.
we love your videos and phtotos so much, you are a super team!!! we agree with your mama… that’s the only way we can learn to avoid things and to see where we did right… the mama often cries first after watching a video, but then after 87 hbo words, she knows what she did wrong ( everything) and she can try to make other mistakes and to fail better
My mom is always saying, what was I thinking, what was wrong with me! LOL!
Olivia has a great nose and it will get better and better. Loved the video. Great work, Olivia.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches to the pups and an extra treat for Olivia. β₯
She is already improving a lot in her search techniques. Air scenting is her thing, which is different from me as I sniff the ground or straight ahead more to catch a scent.
I always learn something new when you show us your training, it is endlessly fascinating for me, thanks!
Those are actual trial videos, but we use them to train and there is always room to learn.
Great photos and we loved watching you work in the videos!
Mom says watching Olivia work is fascinating. I don’t know why I’m not as fascinating, but whatever.
I love the photo of you and your Mom looking at each other while she gets your treats! I enjoy watching you work in the videos too; both photos and videos capture not just that, but the special moments between your Mom and you girls. β₯
Caprise always captures a lot of special moments. She has real talent.
We soooo agree, it can be nice to look back on fun memories!!
It is still hard for Mom do to with Emma, but she loves watching our videos and remembering trials through the photos too.
This is why coaches of lots of sports want videos to study, i would imagine, letβs them see things from another perspective and change what needs changing.
Sometimes what is in Mom’s mind as to how a search was is not really how it was but she only finds that out through video. It is a great way to learn.
What wonderful training tools and memories!
Yes they are and we get the photos and videos whenever they are offered.
You are a speedy searcher! I love the video, and the still photos are fabulous!
The local still photographer is really amazing. We all love her work. Olivia is a sports lover and she works hard from the first second until Mom says they are done. She makes the game really fun for Mom.
I agree, Iβm usually the ones taking the photos so I love it when someone else captures some memories of me and my gang.
Mom really loves it and wishes that she had a personal photographer sometimes.
Great photos working with your mom! Y’all are looking scent-sational!
We are scent-sational scent hounds.
