Today we are celebrating a dozen years since Mom adopted our two crazy felines from the Humane Society. The photo above was taken a few days after they moved in. At the time Bert was said to be about three, and Sophie about one. I guess that makes them old cats, but they still seem to get around just fine.
Sophie has always been a recluse but a beauty. I’ve heard she wasn’t even a fan of Katie or Emma, and has never liked any dog. We rarely see her as she spends her time sleeping in her favorite hiding spots. She isn’t much for food either, so no treats or nip for her.
Being a long haired cat, Sophie leaves her furs all over the place. Mom is always trying to keep her brushed. She also has to clean Sophie’s favorite bed every few days because it becomes coated in her furs. It is really a mess.
Bert on the other paw is enjoying life, thinking he owns all of us, and the house. He does what he wants, steals food constantly, even out of a pan on the stove, and still tries to run away from home any chance he gets to run out the door.
Warm spots including sun puddles and the fireplace are his favorite places to be. He can bake all day if no one disturbs him! After years of being chubby, he is now a decent weight. As he has aged, he has morphed into a real cranky, old man cat! He goes around meowing and yelling at Mom all day every day.
Bert and Sophie are not really friends. They exist in the same house together, but are rarely seen together, and occasionally, they have a small cat fight. I guess one would say they are perfect with their social distancing.
Olivia and Bert are constantly in each other’s furs. The chase, wrestle, fight, it is what they do. Don’t tell Olivia, but I think she secretly loves her cat bro Bert!
I don’t really fight much with Bert, but I do stand my ground. He tries to stare me into vacating my window bed, but I refuse to move.Β I figure why waste my energy on a cat. We can’t even find a photo of Bailie with the cats because she has no time for them. Both kitties have made it a dozen years with Mom, and we don’t know how many more years they will be around, but we would probably miss them if they were not here. Well, we wouldn’t notice if Sophie was gone, but we would notice the absence of Bert!
My GBGV Life is joining Brianβs Home Blog in the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Those cats are so lucky to live with you guys
They have a good home, but they may prefer to not have dogs around. We keep them on their toes.
Happy Gotcha Day Sophie and Bert, you sure have a wonderful home and we’re so glad you chose wisely! Enjoy a wonderful day you two! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Thank you. They are napping to celebrate it looks like.
Beautiful kitties! Happy National Cat Day! Happy Gotcha Day!
Thank you.
we love your feline siblings… Bert could be our brother too LOL
He would be ideal for your home because he is always in trouble, like you boys! He can wrestle pretty well with dogs too.
What great photos and background stories on the felines in your home! Now we understand better. So 13 and 16 for cats makes then middle aged in our book; we have known cats to live 23 or more years. Enjoy them and NEXT TIME…get “short hairs”.
Oh goodness, cats live that long? Mom’s first cat was 19. Bert hasn’t slowed down as he aged at all, but he is much more cranky.
Being National Cat Day it’s good to feature your kitties. I just learned you had one, but now I know you have two. Cats are fun and they can be so different. Nice to meet the both of you.
Have a purrfect Thankful Thursday. Scritches to the kitties and the pups. My best to your mom. β₯
Hard to believe, but as a kid, Mom was a cat lover and didn’t like dogs. She has had a cat since she was 7. Now she is a total dog person, with a side of cats. People change over time I guess. Lucky for us for sure!
I am not sure what a cat is. They look pretty and might be fun. Happy Anniversary Sophie and Bert. XOXO, Sparkle
Watch out for their paws if they have claws, they can do a lot of damage on a dog.
Happy cat day. Our Clarence is more like Sophie….we might enjoy one like Bert!
Mom says Bert is a menace as he is always into things and getting in trouble. He eats toilet paper and throws it back up all the time, drives us crazy as we have to try to keep the bathroom doors closed.
Wow, they look so comfortable and at home after only a few days! That’s great, it was obviously the right fit. Sophie sure is cute and we all have our own special personalities, don’t we? Wow, those long hairs! Bert, you handsome guy, don’t burn your paws on the stove, holy smokes! Ha, Zoe tries to stare at the rest of us when she wants us to move but we ignore her, too! We loved all of your beautiful photos ~ have a wonderful day.
Thank you. Bert is food obsessed, always has been, but it gets worse as he ages, but he is a funny guy.
Happy Cat Day!!
Purrfect comment π
Sophie and Bert are lucky to live with sweet dogs.
We keep the felines in line as best as we can.
I have never met a cat much less lived with one. Great photos!
It is an experience, not always good, not always bad.
your kitties are so lucky to be with you! Wonderful photos! and 12 isn’t old for a cat- ours live to be 17 to 20 years old…..and that still is too short a time. Have a lovely day!!!
Mom’s first kitty was 19 when she passed away. The other ones didn’t make it as long, but we fear Bert may live forever.
Bert sounds like the perfect cat brother for your pack!
He thinks he is a dog, so he fits right in.
I love your cats! Bert is so cool, and Sophie just seems quiet and sophisticated! It sounds like everyone has learned to live together, mostly peacefully, even if they don’t love each other. π
Sophie is always in hiding, so most people don’t even know about her. Bert is more the cat version of a dog.
