Minnehaha Creek winds and flows through a lot of Minnetonka in the area where our Gramma lives. The weather was gorgeous on Saturday, so we decided to try going off road and follow the creek if it was possible. Right now the water is really low, making it a good time to give it a try.
In July of 2019, Mom went kayaking on the creek, starting right about at the point behind us which is just past a small section of rapids. They kayaked for several hours through Minnetonka, St Louis Park, and ending in Edina. Mom would love to take one of us along on a kayak ride, but she has only kayaked once before and that was on a lake with Bailie. For the tour she took, she needed more experience before trying it with any of us.
This is a photo of the group from their trip down the Minnehaha Creek. Mom in on the far left with her sunglasses on. Despite falling into the creek twice along the trip, she never did lose the glasses! It was quite the ride as the creek was really high at the time. One person even broke a paddle which caused some trouble for the group. She would like to do it again, maybe next summer?
Being off road, we did follow the creek for a while. There were a lot of downed trees and brush in the way, but it was still fun to climb around and follow the water. Madison likes to be up higher, so she got onto this old tree that had fallen probably a long time ago.
Both of us kept trying to get Mom to let us swim, but we had no luck with that. She thought it was not a good idea since we were going to visit Gramma after our little walk. We felt it was warm enough for a dip and a drink but even with a two to one vote, we couldn’t win. At one point we tried to pull her off balance so we could get into the water, but she fought off that attempt as well.
It was just a forty minute or so walk, but it was fun, and we were ready to hit Gramma’s house to get some good snacks. We love to walk, pretty much anywhere, anytime, and a new spot to explore is even better!
My GBGV Life is happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
that is a wonderful place… we would love to go kayaking… but the mama said… well ya know hahaha
I think it might end up as a disaster. Even we are a bit questionable as kayaking partners and we are not quite as crazy as you boys.
I’m glad you had fun and your Mom enjoyed her trip down the creek with a paddle!!!
Mom thought it was fun. She would do it more often if she could.
It looks like a great place to walk, and yet ladies, may i get just a tiny bit stern for a moment? Your mom is a two-legged not a four-legged, and pulling us two-leggeds down can result in broken bones and a whole lot of trouble. Yes, you might win a swim, but what if the other result is your mom having to call for help and be rescued, and then spend time getting over a broken leg or worse? Please, no pulling your mom off balance!
Bailie understands that because she was running with Mom the morning she broke her ankle. Supposedly, she slipped on ice under some snow and fell, but Bailie was there and was quite helpless. They hobbled the 1/2 mile home and then we had six weeks of a broken mom. We never want that to happen, but sometimes we forget she can be fragile.
Oh, and i forgot to add, the stuff that got broken at my house was not from disputes, itβs just clumsiness. Sweetie (my husband), Brother-in-Law (his twin), and two of our four children can trip over their own feet, or other peopleβs, too. Something in this house was always getting broken, but it was always an accident, and now we just keep the few breakables around here locked up.
Oh, we thought they were broken on purpose. Our mom is clumsy, but usually the only thing that gets damaged is herself, LOL! For you it is a good reason to have plastic everything and very soft furniture!
Humans! They just don’t care for the smell of wet dog – what the heck is the matter with them? Madison did you feel as tall as Olivia when you were on that log? You walk looked like fun. XOXO, Sparkle
Sometimes humans are odd! I like to be tall once and a while. Because I’m short, I am really good at standing on my back paws and I can even walk a few steps that way. It makes me nice and tall.
Lovely walk!
It was fun.
How fun and you tried to pull mom in for a swim. I know that didn’t work. I did chuckle though.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches all around and my best to your smart mom. β₯
When the two of us pull, and especially if we catch her off guard, we can almost pull her to where we need her π
Let there be balance in ALL things, girls! My mom falls all the time – even without my help, so I try to watch our for her – TIMBER!!!
Our Mom sometimes falls on purpose to stop us from pulling her, but usually her balance is good.
awesome photos- I love kayaking, but moctly I flat water kayak as I do not like wite water- a slow moving creek would be ok! The two of you look awdorable!
Thank you. Mom likes nice quiet water too, but the creek rapids aren’t big and scary, so they were fine.
oooopsie- sorry for all the typos! Have a great day!
What a shame you didn’t get to go for a swim. A cool dip would have cooled you down.
I know, it was a bummer, but sometimes dog life isn’t a democracy!
What a fun hike, we bet it was fun to trample through the leaves! On a differnt note, we always forget how tall Olivia is! It’s the same in our house…Sunny is already the tallest pup in the house!
Those young ones are super tall. I wonder why. Sunny does look a bit like Olivia, long and lean.
My Charlie loves to go walking in the woods such as this. Most of our red leaves are gone & now we see all the trees that have fallen too with the storms we had this summer. What a bummer! We live near Fox River (Illinois). Your scenery is absolutely wonderful such as ours was, but it is now fading away. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a wonderful day!
Now ours is covered in snow for the second time in a few weeks, but we are ready for winter here. Fall was super pretty this year before we had our first big snowstorm. We’ve probably seen the Fox River because we go to nose work trials in IL a few times a year and stay in the Naperville, Joliet, Schaumburg areas.
