Holiday night walks are a favorite thing around our house. Every year we look forward to all the decorations that turn on when the sun sets. This year is absolutely nuts with so many people putting out all kinds of different lighted displays. I ran into these deer on my walk the other night. It looks like I’m a decoration myself since Mom has me all glowing in the dark!
We are shocked at how many people are out in the dark wearing only dark colors. We barely see them until they are right by us, and drivers have trouble seeing them as well. Our Illumiseen rechargeable necklaces and glow leashes make sure we are seen in the dark. You would not believe it, but every night we get stopped at least once to ask where we got our glow in the dark gear. People also tell us how cool we look!
Mom likes to mix and match the colors, so we really do appear to be living holiday light displays! With so many lights to see, we are also walking longer and further than normal in the dark, but we feel safe being all lit up! Not only are we seen, we draw attention to ourselves. Many folks don’t like the short daylight hours this time of year, but we enjoy the cozy feeling they bring, and our evening walks. The world looks so different.
We enjoy the lights that follow the frame of a house, the yard displays are pretty cool, then there are the inflatables of all sizes, and finally those projector things. Usually the projector things rotate dots around the house. The first years they were fun, but now we find them boring. These gingerbread people we saw on one of our holiday night walks were a nice change. They move around, but slow enough that our photo isn’t too blurry.
My sisters like to pose by the wrapped trees because they feel like they blend right in to the tree!
Mom has always wanted to “light up” our house, but she has no clue how to do it herself and hiring someone is expensive. When it comes down to it, why bother. You sit in your house and don’t see your own lights at all. We decided it is best to enjoy the neighbor’s lights instead. This year we did put lights on our wreath, though. It’s a start, right?
People with little kids seem to really go big on the inflatables. Most of them are snowmen or Santas. They make for fun photos but you have to sneak up in the yard to get a decent photo.
Last but not least, I found this little display on a corner and find it to be rather cute. With so many things lit up in the yard, the photo isn’t as dark as the others. Of course, everything would look better and be brighter with snow, but right now we don’t have any of that. We highly recommend you take some holiday night walks with your pup. The displays this year are fun to see but remember to dress yourself and your dog to be seen and be safe!

You read Mom’s mind! We looooove evening walks. And actually the early morning while it is still dark — because of the lights! Our favorite so far is a family who has turned their whole yard into a skating rink (blue lights on the ground in a circle) and Snoopy skating !! With other Peanuts friends! It’s soooo great! And, mom wants me to be sure to say she completely agrees with you guys about WHY DOESN’T EVERYONE WEAR LIGHTS!!! Yes, mom yelled that at me while I was typing that. It makes her sooo mad when she sees (barely) people wearing all dark and walking. Its so stupid! We love this post. Makes us look forward to our walk tonight! Have a great day. your friend Lilly
That Snoopy ice display sounds so fun! I know we would love that too. Mom can’t take all of us at the same time, so 1 or 2 of us run with her 3-5 miles and whoever didn’t run walks 3 miles. The dog(s) who run are running in the dark and we get to see some of the lights that are still on, but most are no longer on. Running or walking in the dark is so peaceful. The main thing is BE SEEN! Mom doesn’t want to ever hit anyone she can’t see when we are driving, and we don’t like not seeing them when we are walking either. Have a fun weekend!
Wow, you guys truly do look like walking Christmas decorations. I have a little pink light dangling from my collar, and many of the other dogs in the park wear collar lights for their morning park walk. (Being further north, we have even less daylight than you at this time of year). We’ve never seen glowing leashes though.
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
PS Gail and I were touched by your comment on my blog post today.
Thank you, your poem was very touching with a special touch for our mom. Years ago before any of us were born, Mom was in Alaska for the longest day of the year and also the shortest. She has also been in Scandinavia during short days. We enjoy more darkness in the winter because it is cozy, but what we have is enough. Stay safe out there.
that is the festival of lights!!! we ove it so much… and we ordered such collars for celebrating the nights…
Good idea to stay safe and look like a walking holiday decoration!
You all light up the world even without your own brightly lit collars and leashes. Yet it’s the best thing to wear them, for safety and because they’re so very pretty!
We do like the look and people do too. Safety is very important.
You clearly win the award for the prettiest ornaments
Thank you.
Those are not only smart, they are darn pretty and you look so festive with those lights!
We love to light up the night and people love to see us lighting it up too π
You do look cool in you light up gear! You are very lucky you get to go on walks with your mom. We have a nativity scene out front, AND sitting under our pole lantern light are 2 inflatable. One of the inflatables sorta kinda looks like me, but the other is a Boston terrier! Mom bought 2 of the terriers and the other is by our Christmas tree. Puffin and I get our furs out of sorts when the Boston fills up with air every night. Then we get even more crazy when it shrinks at night like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz! Have a wonderful weekend! XOXO, Sparkle
Inflatables can be scary. There are some jumbo Disney ones down the road from us. Olivia barks, growls and won’t go near them. I think she would flip out if Mom had one in the house!
It’s fun to walk around the neighborhood to see how others have decorated. I love your leashes and collars too. Your mom is the best.
Have a woof woof day and weekend. My best to your mom. β₯
It makes walks more interesting for a few weeks checking out all the decorations.
My goodness! What fun! “Wear white after dark” is a saying we all grew up with. Being a GBGV that is mostly white, we have this covered, but the added lights you girls are wearing are “brilliant”! lighted door wreaths…that is a new one for us and a great idea for the neighbors, so we can see them. I’ll have to get mom on this project for our house. We can’t even put up our usually lighted stars in the windows because the window replacement contractor isn’t done yet – due to Covid delays in supplies. I am getting a window seat when he is done!
Chablis
We all love to sit in our front window on our bench. It’s ideal for our neighborhood watch.
What gorgeous collars!
Thank you. They help keep us safe in the dark.
You girls look so festive for the season with your beautiful light-up necklaces and leashes!
If we ever get run over, the driver can never say he didn’t see us!
You ladies light up my life…what a fun and festive post!. I love your glow in the dark attire too.
We need to get out of our ‘old folks’ routine of not going out after dark. I be there are lots of pretty lights to see here.
Happy Friday
Hugs Cecilia
We still need to take our walks even when it is dark so we are used to it, but the holiday lights add a lot of fun to them. We also go further to check out the lights that are not as close to us. It’s fun.
What nice looking decoration you gals found! Our Daddy has our house lit up like Clark Griswald…and we are THE ONLY ones in our Cul de Sac that have decorated!
LOL, we are about the only ones who don’t have lights on the house which is why Mom has the wreath with lights at least.
That is cool gear! While we donβt walk the grand-dog Coda at night much, it would be nice to have for the rare occasion, and maybe a set for her at home.
We love them because they are so fun and they keep us seen for sure! They are rechargeable too, so we just plug them in once a week or so and we are good to go.
You sure bring light into the dark, sweet doggiesβ¨Pawkisses for a Happy SundayπΎπ½π
That we do. Mom is a fan of bright colors anyway, so these are perfect for us!
OMD…. I’ve never seen pups lite up. Super cool.
We have been lighting up for a couple years now and it feels good to be seen. Thanks for stopping by.
