The challenges of house cats for us dogs is real! Cat bro Bert can be such a nuisance and he can also be really violent at times with his strong paws and claws. Coexisting in one house with three dogs and two cats can be quite the challenge.
Bailie has the least cat interaction of the three of us. She will chase Bert on occasion, but that is about it. This is a rare sighting seeing the two of them almost sitting together on the stairs.
Madison doesn’t have much to do the the cats, and rarely even chases them! I don’t know what is wrong with her. In the winter she will be seen with Bert by the fireplace in the evening. The window bench is a place she can be seen with Bert in the summer.
Sophie doesn’t like dogs at all. She is rarely seen around the house, and she will avoid us dogs whenever she can. This cat is a true loner type.
Bert always wants to be in the mix. He does have his cube in the winter where he likes to get cozy if it is really cold. It’s perfect for him.
I enjoy pestering Bert. Deep down, I think we really do like each other. He gets mad at me and fights back, but he always comes back for more. I enjoy finding him, pouncing on him, and giving him kisses. During the day we fight just like cats and dogs, but in the evenings we manage to hang out together without much fighting. I guess it would be lonely without our house cats, but they are really a pain in a girls furs.
I am joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop held by Comedy Plus.
I am surprised that you don’t block the opening in his cube just to be annoying! I really do not know what a cat is, but it looks like a fun toy. Have a fun weekend. XOXO, Sparkle
I did destroy the pillow he had in there, and sometimes I take it and run around with it, but now when he is in it.
I would bet my little brother would probably be like Olivia and want to get to know Bert. He has never met a cat though! I know that I would be like Bailie– not thanks, no need to be friends. My brother Dash wanted to be friends with everyone — cats included. We love the last picture of Bert and Olivia. So cute! have a great Friday. your friend Lilly
We have a deep love of each other, but we usually express it by fighting with each other. At the end of the day, the tender moments come out. Madison finds cats to just be a nuisance, and Bailie doesn’t really care about them at all. Happy Friday!
OMCs/OMDs Bailie and Madison…handsome Bert da tabbie bro seems to be in sync with his K9 roomies. Does Sophie like Bert?
It is 87 kinds of wise to let the felines take the lead in the friendship ritual….but good to see you always are aware the rules change but that is just how cats are unpredictable.
Hugs Cecilia
Sophie and Bert have never been close. They exist, sometimes fight, but that is it. Sophie likes Mom and that is about it.
that’s great how it works in your furmily…. the mama nearly bought me AND a sphynx cat ,my breeder bred too…. fortunately she was too poor for a nekked kitty otherwise we had no neilson today… he is a cat-astrophe with cats…
Still would love to send Bert over to you boys but right now it is too cold. He would freeze in the box with the postal service. Maybe in the summer we can mail him over. He stands up to dogs, no problem…look out Neilson…Bert can be tough.
Love that last picture. Award winning.
Thank you. We fight most of the time, but then we have our tender moments too.
I see Bert has got the spot nearest the fire! Does he charge a toll to let you go up the stairs?
Bailie either goes elsewhere or around him if he lets her. I run him over if he is in my way. He does usually get the spot closest to the fire, but that spot is too warm for us anyway.
Darling photos of two good friends! Sorry Sophie that you are afraid. Have a great day!
She isn’t really afraid, just a loner type.
I have never had to share my house with a cat, thank dogness. The ones in the street are bad enough – they tease you and then are too quick on their paws for you to exact revenge…
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Here in the house we get into some good chase and wrestle matches but I have to watch out for those claws!
Cute! We have Clarence the cat that mostly hides out in the spare bedroom. Only Zachary pays any attention that he is even here, and Clarence wants nothing to do with him.
Bert is always out and about, trying to be like a dog, but Sophie wants to be all alone.
They can and do get along and then sometimes they don’t. It’s wonderful if they do. So adorable.
Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Scritches to the pups and the kitties and my best to your mom. β₯
We make it work, but cats are sure a lot of trouble.
Thanks for introducing us to Bert and Sophie! That is cool! Bert sounds like he is a pretty terrific furrend. has always had both dogs and cats as long as she can remember. She says some have been best furrends and some have not. Cinnamon and Kozmo are the same age and have been best furrends since they were little. Have a marvellously Happy Day!
The cats are not really friends, just live in the same house, fight sometimes. Mom isn’t sure if she would ever get another cat. They are a lot more work than we dogs are, she says. I enjoy making Bert crazy, but we have some nice moments too.
The pictures of you girls with your kitties is too sweet. I’ve never met a kitty before and I sure wish that I could. Can I come over and meet yours?!βΊ
Be careful what you wish for! Bert would have no problem meeting another dog, but Sophie would go nuts. She is not happy about dogs at all.
It’s okay that Sophie does her own thing, Bert makes up for it in his socializing!
They really are complete opposites.
Have to tell you, in our household it’s LEVI who is MUCH more of a problem in the interaction of he and Roary than Roary is. Being a puppy (what the hell was I thinking getting a puppy lol), he has ZERO self control. If I make it through this stage it will be a miracle!
Mom loves puppies and is sad we grow up so fast. She is getting the urge for another puppy since I am almost two, but we can only have three dogs in our city, so she can’t get another one right now.
Go Olivia…We have never lived with a kitty, but if we had to, we hope he would be like Bert!
Actually, Sophie is easier because we never see her, she doesn’t get into our stuff, and we don’t have to fight with her like we do with Bert.
Growing up, we had cats and dogs at the same time. Some of them ignored each other, some of them were the best of buddies and slept snuggled up together.
As with people, a dog or cat has itβs own βwaysβ (some would say personality), so some get along and are friendly, some simply donβt.
I think it is that way for every creature, as with humans. Everyone is their own individual.
We think Bert kind of wishes he were a dog – or he thinks he is one! π
We think he would be a dog if he could be one.
I am amazed that you have cats and dogs living in mostly harmony. Bentley and Pierre do not like cats but luckily we seldom see them in our neighborhood. People keep them indoors. Where we used to live, we had lots of cats visit and they boys would lose their minds. BOL! BOL!
Well, Bert gets into a lot of fights with us dogs and sometimes Sophie too. Mom isn’t sure she will get another cat again. They are just trouble.
MIster KItty is a bully. The girls, Lulu and Mollie who’s combined weight is about 8 lbs. are the ones not afraid of him. Plus Leo, all 100 lbs. is also not afraid. Daphne is a quiet feline, she avoids chaotic situations, Thor, Loki and Finn streer clear of the cat. Mr. Kitty knows I willl remove him from the situation if he lashes out at the pups. Mollie had a reaction to her shots last summer. Lost her eyesight completely for 2 weeks. We rushed her to CSU Vet Hospital in Fort Collins, CO
. She had drops and some meds and her sight returned by the 14th day. It was scary stuff so we do not allow fighting. My big boy kitty knows I will pick his big caboose up and remove him from the pups.
Cats are different creatures so it can be tough. Hoping all works out for you. Have a blessed week.
How scary with your kitty losing her sight, glad it came back. We are just used to fighting and arguing with cat bro Bert day in and day out. He should have been born a dog as he thinks he is one, but he is a cat. At the end of the day, we make up and get along.
