We are all enjoying the smells of a heatwave. Odor, aka smells, spread so much more when the air is warm and the sun is shining. The three of us have been really doing a lot of sniffing now that we are about fifty degrees warmer than we were in the long Arctic blast.
Heat and sunshine cause odor to really spread, old causes it to drop and not spread much at all. With a balmy forty degrees and lots of sun, smells are waking up in our yard!
All of us love to air scent. Madison is doing some herself. I wonder if she is catching the stink of a squirrel, or the smelly cows down the road?
Most of the time, I find Olivia is a bit of a pest. She thinks I am fascinating and likes to learn from me. Mom says we are very similar in personality which is why we probably irritate each other often. For Olivia it is always fun to do what I am doing including following the smells of a heatwave.
Madison is practicing walking with purpose. I think she is on the trail of a rabbit. There are a lot of rabbits out and about since the deep freeze left town.
As always, Olivia is racing about. She loves to run. Sometimes she even runs when she is searching at a competition. The girl is simply a bit crazy! The fresh smells are nice, but it is warm and melty and we are not thrilled about it. We would like a few more weeks with our cold and snow, but we get what we get. Thankfully, the smells are interesting.

We saw our first rabbit of the year yesterday and our walks are taking longer too because I need to stop and sniff every pawprint in the snow.
We have seen a lot of rabbits right before sunrise. Mom says it makes our walks a disaster, we think it is great!
Those snow romps look like fun but y’all are really enjoying those powerful outside whiffs! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
There is lots of good scent in the air right now!
If you love smells you should move to New York. Not fun smells but strong odors.
Um, probably not fun stuff to smell. We get the farm smell here because there are some cattle and fields just down the road. We find it interesting, Mom doesn’t like it at all.
That all looks wonderful!
It is a lot of fun right now.
Sniff. Sniffed. Sniffing. You sure make the most fun out of every wearhervsituation. We are experiencing almost summer here in fact it was 90 one day last week. Yikes ! It’s still February. XOXO Sparkle
Oh dear, that is way too warm for our taste. The thirties are nice for us but they melt the snow which is sad.
da smells are fabulous you are right… we smell voles… everywhere..oh the joy to dig for them…
Some years there are lots of voles here, but since we still have snow, we can’t see if they have been tunneling or not.
We had some warm days too, but we’re back to cold again now. Even though walking conditions aren’t great, Luke and I got outside so he could do some sniffing around the yard too. If the snow would just compact a bit more we can get back onto our woods trails, probably just a couple more warm days would do it (and we might get rain which could also help). Don’t worry, I’m sure winter is not done with any of us yet!
We hope for another good load of snow, but one never knows. Right now it is just a mess, and then icy in the mornings.
Heatwave? I chuckled at this, but 50 degrees warmer is indeed a heatwave. Enjoy.
Have a woof woof Thankful Thursday. My best to your wonderful mom. β₯
After several days in the double digits below zero, even zero feels quite warm.
The boys love to smell and had a lot of sniffing fun after our freeze!
It changes the whole way odor behaves so I bet it made them somewhat tired working their usual odor puzzles in a different way.
Hee! Hee! You guys are just like Cinnamon! There was a fresh dusting this morning and she loved smelling all the new morning smells! Raccoon, deer, squirrels and the other dogs! Don’t you LOVE it! You guys are so awesome. Have a marvellously happy day.
Mom says we are the nosiest pups around town! Our sniffers are always working either for fun or for our sports.
What fun you all are having – happy whiffing pups!
Thank you. We love sniffing all the good smells of the change of seasons.
Looks like a lot of fun and we hope the good whiffies come back to our yard soon
With all the seasons, it is fun to see how the different smells come and go.
Madison sniffs the snow like a sniffer dog. What a nice smell after a long frost!
We are scent hounds π
