Our quick family road trip took us a few hours south to Fort Dodge, Iowa. The three of us were entered in barn hunt and FastCAT trials at the Webster County Fairgrounds. We got there Saturday evening and stayed overnight in a hotel so we were ready to be at the trial site by seven in the morning.
The drive is very boring, no fun sites along the way. Our hotel was also pretty drab, and the fairgrounds don’t have many fun things besides our sports. The most interesting find was the food truck. Mom enjoyed a nice lunch, but she didn’t give us any of it. That was tough!
Bailie was very happy to travel with us, but she was quite nervous. Riding in the car, even in her new kennel isn’t something she enjoys. She did FastCAT two years ago twice. This time on her first run, Mom handed her off to a friend to release her at the start while Mom ran to the finish line to call Bailie to her. Bailie panicked and and actually threw up. We think she thought she was being left there. Nevertheless, she did her run, and was happy to find Mom again. Her second run was a bit better, but she threw up a tiny bit that time too. Nerves seem to be her problem when traveling.
Olivia and I both had a blast, and no worries at all as we love to travel and do it a lot. Mom says it is my kind of weekend because I so love to hunt rats, and I go really crazy at FastCAT! My release person could barely hold on to me because I was so excited to get chasing. I ran personal best times even! Both of us were really worn out by the afternoon. We were sleeping in the car along with some straw pieces we stole from the barn hunt ring.
The weather was ideal for our family road trip with temps about sixty degrees and partly cloudy. We were totally comfy running outside and also hanging out in our car all day.
Overall, we had a successful day, but the winner of the day was Bailie. Each of us have two new FastCAT Q’s. I have my ninth masters Q, so my next one will be my champion title, yay! Bailie ran her first masters run in barn hunt and actually earned a Q, and a second place! We never imagined that! As for Olivia, she is taking after Bailie and isn’t so interested in rats right now. She didn’t earn any barn hunt Q’s. Mom will work with her some more and try to get her motivation up.
It really was a fun twenty five hours for all of us. We may do it again some day when things are right for it. Now we are back to several weekends of sports around town with no traveling required.
My GBGV Life is happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
Poor Baillie! I got carsick once, but love to go in the car . You all had a successful road trip. Happy trials to you. XOXO Sparkle
She never gets sick in the car, but I think being in a new place and then left with someone she didn’t know and Mom ran off it scared her and she lost it. It’s hard because she wants to be with us but isn’t really comfortable with traveling. We will do it again, but not a lot.
Oh poor Bailie. Hopefully she will learn that travel is really OK and she will learn to be not so stressed.
She will never love to travel but sometimes she can come along with us anyway.
I can relate to the throwing up my furiend! I still throw up either in the car or just after on every ride! Mom sure hopes I grow out of this. I’m glad that all turned out well though! Love, Levi
I never throw up in the car. I threw up because of my nerves and Mom leaving me with a stranger. I have always disliked cars and it won’t change for me at this point.
congrats!!!wooohooo!was that funny truck a prize too? we would love it it looks piggy cowl!!!!
The food smelled really good.
Your pups are so adorable. I’m sorry Bailie had issues with traveling. Some pups love it and others don’t. She still had a great day. Olivia is the life of the party isn’t she. She’s up for anything.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to the pups. β₯
Olivia is the center of attention and I try to steal it from her. Bailie is just happy to be with the family. It’s sad she has never liked to travel.
You girls are all amazing athletes and you have such beautiful ribbons! Your mom would never leave you, Bailie – she loves you!
Bailie is just a hot mess when she is on a trip I guess. We all enjoy our sports, though and it is a lot of fun for us.
Congratulations! I was with you in spirit. I wonder if anyone does lizard hunts… XOXO Xena
Not us. Mom won’t let us near any reptile creatures.
Looks like you girls all had an exciting weekend! Poor Bailey, but I suspect she could be taught to like traveling. Has she ever gotten to just be in her crate in the car – going nowhere and getting treats ( while yo walk around the yard and /or garden and come back to her periodically? My mom is big on “successive proximations” for training things that make us nervous. She also uses a special phrase for us so we know she is going to come back when she leaves – she says “be right back.” this has always helped us to settle down and not worry. Did I tell you about this already? I’m getting old and forgetful, but it sounded familiar to me. Your friend, Chablis.
p.s. Oh, one thing – mom sometimes goes too fast in upping the aunty for us and it ALWAYS backfires.
Bailie has never liked the car since she was a tiny pup. She gets into the car and even her car crate but when the car starts she starts to shake and pant. It is just something she can’t handle well. We love the car, so we don’t get it.
WOW, that was quite the eventful trip, congrats sweeties!
It was fast and fun!
It must have been great taking a road trip and getting out to enjoy some fun times. Congratulations to all of you and love seeing you three in the last photo. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful rest of your week.
Thank you. We had a great time and brought home a few more ribbons to top it off.
It sounds like you have been to much more interesting places, but you had fun with your sports anyway and that is what counts.
The sports are always the main reason for the trips but some trips have fun spots along the way too.
Poor Bailey getting sick! Our before hairy slobbery sister Bob used to get sick when she was upset/stressed too. We send Bailey hugs! And CONCATULATIONS to all 3 of you ladies (and your Mom) you did PAWSOME! We are glad you enjoy your trials and thanks for telling us about your day. We hope you all have a marvellously Happy day!
She has never been sick before, but we think it was the travel and not knowing why Mom left her and ran away that put her over the edge. Still it was a good learning experience for all of us. Bailie is very sensitive so we always have to be careful with her feelings. Overall, though, it was a good weekend and we all had a nice time.
Other than throwing up it sounds like a very successful weekend.
The stress of it all was a bit much and then Mom left her and that put her over the edge, but overall, she was a happy girl being with the pack.
Sorry Bailie had some issues, but it sounds like it was still a great day overall. Good job by all you girls; you sure packed a lot into those 25 hours!
Sunday was super busy and we went to bed at 8:30 that night, but the fun was worth it.
