I had my first Nose Work 3 Trial last Saturday and it was a big success for Team Orange. No, there are no pretty ribbons but I accomplished something no one else in the family has achieved. My number was seventeen which is the same as being number one. They split the thirty four dogs into two groups, each group searching simultaneously. Seventeen was the first dog in the second group. Mom and I like to be first!
It was a warm day, and Madison was along to be my cheerleader. She really is a good sport. If it was me, I would scream and carry on if I didn’t get to play too. Mom has done around thirty Nose Work 3 trials and has never gotten a title. The rules have changed over the years and now you can earn a leg if you make only one mistake. Had this always been the case, Emma and Madison would each have two legs which would be one NW3 Title for each of them.
I’m really a good sniffer and Mom says I make the game so much easier than my sisters. She set a goal of a title or a leg for our first time out at this level. She purposely used more time than needed just to be sure we didn’t miss anything. At this level there are four elements: interiors, exteriors, vehicles, and containers. Altogether there are six searches which means some elements can happen twice, or one three times. Each search has an unknown number of hides between zero and three and a time limit. For me it is simply fun, for humans it is a mental challenge.
I started my day searching the rabbit building. Mom felt good about the search, but we missed one hide. Next I did a big exterior area full of stuff and found nothing. From there I searched some vehicles and found one hide, the interior space also had one hide. In containers I found two hides and exteriors was a mess. The area next to the hide had sand burrs and I didn’t want to go in that area. After several dogs had issues it was deemed unsafe and we all got a pass. It was a lucky day!
Here I am with all my results. Having missed just one hide, I earned the first leg ever in the family and it was my first Nose Work 3 Trial! Since Mom purposely was slow, I placed thirteenth overall out of thirty four dogs. Only two dogs found all the hides. Twelve dogs earned a leg. Mom and I are super happy that we had such a great time and now just need one more leg for a title! I see myself going far in this sport, now I just need more trials to compete in! I’m thankful I get to do my sports and I’m fairly good at them too! Hopefully there will be some photos of me searching I can share down the road.
My GBGV Life is joining Brianβs Home Blog in the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
congratulations!!! that is amazing and we know we will hear soon that you were one of that two dogs who found all hides…. BRAVO to da GBGV team!!!!
Mom says next time we will get the ribbon!
OMD, Olivia, you got to hunt rabbits?! How could you miss a rabbit? How do they hide a rabbit? Don’t the rabbits run away? There’s so much I want to know (do). Your biggest little fan, Xena Pee S: Congrats on your leg…uh, what is a leg other than the four we all have?
It was the rabbit building at the fairgrounds but there were no actual rabbits just cages and stuff. I was able to sniff through it all but the one I missed was tricky and a lot of dogs missed it. I’m still young and have a lot to learn about solving odor puzzles.
WOW, that’s really wonderful and a great big congrats from all of us! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Mom says a lot of pressure is off her now that she finally got at least a leg. We will try harder next time.
That is great Olivia!
Thank you.
Way to go Team Olivia! I am so happy you love your nose work. We can’t wait to see what happens next! XOXO Sparkle
It is really my favorite sport and I’m pretty good at it too. I’m all about sniffing out odor.
WOW, Olivia! You continue to amaze us! I am so happy for you, but REALLY happy for your mom, since we know she likes to win; and you like to make her happy.
Great teamwork!
Mom does like to win and she loves me as her teammate because I’m pretty good and super motivated.
I’m going to say this again. You’re going to be a superstar, Olivia. I keep telling you that.
Have a woof woof Thankful Thursday. My best to your siblings and your mom. β₯
I hope to be a famous nose work dog some day, but in the meantime I just enjoy finding the odor whenever I get the chance. I work hard and love the hunt.
You should be soooo profundity of yourself. Well done.
I am proud and Mom is super happy with our team too!
That nose knows!
My nose really loves to sniff.
You are an amazing worker and you’re still so young, Olivia!
Mom says I have the best work ethic ever. I will work until I drop and I love it.
Olivia! We are thankful that you did so well! Nose work sounds like so much fun for you and we are glad that you are well on your way to getting your title.
