A hands free running leash is a must for our mom. In 2015 she tried one for the first time and swore she would never hold a leash in her hands while running ever again. What would we do as our old one didn’t hold up to our eternal pulling dog, Olivia.
We love our Umbilical Belt. It has worked well for the past six years and has put on many, many miles. Mom ordered a new one two years ago as the Velcro on the first one was starting to wear out. Until May, it was holding up well too. Olivia seems to be the one to destroy leashes with all her pulling.
First one of the leashes broke, and then the ring we attach the leashes to started to separate. We tried a second one and it only lasted three runs. Mom was afraid it would break and then we would have a problem.
We have heard of Iron Doggy and it seems to be pretty sturdy. It is supposed to hold up to two hundred fifteen pounds of pull. Not only that, but the leashes have two handles and marine grade bungee cords in them. How would these work for us?
It is challenging learning to run with all new equipment, but so far so good. Mom misses the wide belt from the Umbilical Belt, but she absolutely loves the leashes on this new one! She can easily grab a handle if she needs to suddenly keep us close. Even if she grabs the bungee cord, it is super easy to hold on to.
The bungee cord makes it much more difficult for us to pull, and if we do pull, it is cushioned for us and for our mom. We don’t suggest tying your pup to a tree, but for this post we needed a human. Since Mom can’t be in a photo she is taking, the tree is replacing her waist. The belt on the hands free running leash is very adjustable and fits around mom nicely.
The clips on the leash allow you to easily adjust the length of the leash you have from thirty to forty six to fifty four inches long.
We also ordered the pocket so Mom can take her phone and some extra poop bags along with us. You can have one or two dogs hooked up easily, maybe three depending on if they are pullers or not. The price point isn’t too much for this Iron Doggy hands free leash either. If you are looking for a good leash for walking or running hands free, check these out! We still love the Umbilical Belt, but it could not stand up to Olivia. Thankfully we found a good new leash that works for us.
My GBGV Life purchased this leash with our own green papers and receive absolutely no compensation from Iron Doggy for this post. We just like to share products we love with our readers.

If we had a pupster, would sure choose this … (PS third effort to comment, SIGH … keep trying … love all your posts and pictures, even when we can’t say so!)
YAY, it worked! No picture … but the words are there!
Your comments seem to be working, yay!
With your own green paperโฆ.I love that.
Humans are very funny about their green papers.
That’s brilliant. Hubby could have used this when he and our Angel Little Bit would go out for runs.
Have a woof woof Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. โฅ
It really helps with the pulling Olivia likes to do.
it looks very solid and it is a very useful leash for all active pups&peeps ;O)
Would it stand up for you boys? That would be a real test ๐
It looks perfect for your mom and you…and your sisters. For us it’s a big no. Enjoy! XOXO Sparkle
Not for everyone, but for us and running it works really well.
That looks really good, and we will check it out. The main issue for us is that our Mom really needs a wide belt; not sure if the narrow belt puts too much pressure on one place on the back.
Mom misses the Umbilical Belt being wider, but since there is less pulling now, she isn’t having much for issues with the narrow belt.
Those look really, really nice and are most practical too! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
It is working really well for us. This morning was another good tests with lots of rabbits around for Olivia to lunge at.
Mom would be afraid that I would dump her on her face if I ever saw or squirrel or something else that excited me. Too bad too because they sound like a great thing.
Back in 2015 Mom said she would never use a hands free leash with any of us because it would be too dangerous. Guess what? She tried it and loved it for running. She does have to pay attention to us but it keeps her mind busy on runs. We all love it.
That looks like a great leash. We are glad you seem to have found one that will work with Olivia! ๐
I think this is going to be a real winner because it is easy for Mom to grab and hold on which was lacking in the previous one.
Sounds like a wonderful new leash! Olivia sounds a lot like Sunny as far as the pulling goes…Thank goodness Sunny is smaller!

Olivia is about 45 lbs but has the strength of a team of horses, LOL!
Mom would have LOVED that leash 20 years ago! Mom used to run with the befores. Alas she is pretty much a shambler on flat roads now.
I’m sure one day Mom won’t run anymore either but right now she still loves to run and we go along.
It sounds perfect for your pulling dog. Maybe Olivia thinks she is part Husky or Samoyed and wants to pull a sled!
It really works well with the bungee cords. It makes it harder to pull hard and easier for Mom to hang on to her.
Bogie is going through that stage where he mostly wants to just play with the leash right now. But since we’re out in the yard most of the time, it’s safe enough. And he’s getting better about it. No running on our roads, or even just walking, with the idiot drivers around doing highway speeds on residential roads.
We are lucky there are walking paths all around our area so we don’t have to run on the roads much. Bogie will adjust to the leash, it just takes time.
That looks great, I’m glad your Mom found something that works with Olivia. The bungee feature is great for dogs that really pull, I had a bungee leash that I used for Kobi and Sheba. I haven’t used my hands free leash for a while with Luke, but I still have it in case I decide to try it again.
The bungee really does help with the pulling and being able to grab it easily when Mom sees a critter also is a big help. We love the Umbilical Belt, but it just didn’t work for us anymore.
What a cool running leash! We learned they’re made right here in our hometown, too. Thanks for sharing.
That is really cool! We really like it a lot. The belt could be wider and more padded or sturdy, but the leashes are perfect.
