My second Sniffover is in the books. The Sniffover is a camp style learning environment for nose and scent work. There are three instructors and we get to work on odor puzzles with each instructor during the course of the day. The Sniffovers began in 2015 with the first five being up north at a camp for the whole weekend. With COVID in 2020, the event was changed to a local, single day event.
Each camper gets a lanyard with the owner’s name and the dogs name. The color is for the group you are assigned to. There are dogs at all levels of sniffing at camp. Similar level dogs are in the same groups. Why the bag? Every camper gets a t-shirt for the year of the Sniffover and there are poop bags, treats for dogs, treats for humans, some paper and a pen.
I had a great time working on the puzzles the coaches set up for me. The searches were not easy, but I did a really good job on all of them and really worked hard. My first searches were down by the lake. We even got to go in the lake to find a hide in the water. I think because I do water hides in AKC Scent Work a lot, I found that hide pretty easy to find.
Isn’t this little cabin building adorable? It would be really nice in the winter with the red skis out front! There must be a fireplace inside since there are these piles of chopped wood ready to go into a fire.
Every camp has a fire pit and this camp is no exception. There was no time for fires for us because we had serious sniffing to do, but I did manage to get a photo of it.
This year we had some new students, namely goats. Three weeks ago I had to deal with sheep at my scent work trial in Iowa, and this weekend it is goats. What is the dog sports world coming to? I howled and barked like crazy, but they would not go away. Silly goats!
A canoe was parked in the parking lot by my last search area. It is really a big boat I must say! Would anyone be interested in hopping in to help me paddle? Heavens, I don’t even know if the dog paddle works with a canoe!
In my hound opinion, the day was fantastic! Loads of treats, fun scent puzzles for me to solve, and ideal weather! We got home around dinner time. I ate my dinner, hung out a bit but then headed up to bed at eight o’clock by myself because the day had me feeling totally wiped out! My second Sniffover is now in the books and is a huge success. I wonder if there will be another one in 2022?
My GBGV Life is happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
What a great spot for your sniffover and you got lots of wonderful photos! Congratulations, Olivia!
Lots of critter smells I had to dismiss so I could get my work done, but I did a good job with it all.
That sounds like a really fun training day! We would love to have a Sniffover somewhere near us!
It is fun going to a place like that. Distractions are huge, which makes the puzzles even harder.
Great job. How do you find something in the water?
The essential oils we search for float up and spread across the top of the water and we follow the scent to the source. I even tasted the water a bit because of the smell.
How fabulous! No, I do not think dog paddling in a canoe is very effective, but I’m sure you would give it a try if some one got the boat in the water for you. What fun you have! lucky dog!!!
Some day Mom says she wants to take me in a boat but I guess I’m still a bit too crazy for that.
Olivia you worked very very hard and still managed to look gawgeous doing it.
The goats were an interesting mix to the event
Hugs cecilia
Those goats got me in a lot of trouble with my mom, and boy are they smelly too!
What a great adventure dear Oliva, it was really fun reading. I can imagine that it was cool to go on camp with your mom.
We had a lot of fun working together. The two of us make a great team, team orange that is.
ooooh the location is super! we love the canoe!!!!
Our sniffing Weim was at camp too on Sunday. He is still as crazy as ever!
You’re a super star, Olivia. I’ve known it for a long time. I think your mom knows it too.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
Mom says I’m her dream sports dog. We both so love doing sports together.
A jam packed Sniffover day for sure! I got exhausted just reading about your day, Olivia, and I cannot blame you for putting yourself to bed at 8 o’clock! I bet your mom was tired too. XOXO, Sparkle
Mom was kind of tired, but I do most of the work sniffing out all the odor sources. I was tired the next morning too.
What a really fun Day Olivia thanks for taking us along for the fun
It is a fun place and sniffing is always a favorite activity of mine.
That sounds like a really fun time and of course you did great, no doubt about it. Catch up on your rest now!
sounds like a fun day for all. maybe next time there will be horses or ponies.
Yikes, that would be frightening! Bailie saw a horse up close once and she said it was terrifying.
Go Olivia!! What a fun day of sniffing and exploring!!
xoxo,
Arty and the Gang
So many things to sniff, I was dog tired from the whole day!
What a wonderful day at a beautiful camp ~ and what a good job you did!
I did really nice sniffing according to my mom.
What a great camp for dogs like you! Cinnamon says she would LOVE to go to a camp for dogs who chase balls.
