I was sniffing in the woods a couple weeks ago for my NW3 Nose Work Trial at Camp Kiwanis. We were fortunate to have our favorite photographer shooting some of my exterior searches. The photos in this post were purchased from Caprise Adams, the trial photographer, for our own use. Obviously, Mom can’t take our own photos when we are working. Thank you to Caprise for taking more great photos of me! These are just a few of our favorites from the entire collection.
Mom said from the start that this camp would make searching with me a bit difficult and she was right. There are so many critter smells in the leaves and on the logs, it is very distracting. My day started with an exterior search. I missed one of the two hides. Mom said she had a feeling I missed one, but she also thought at least we would get some cute photos of me enjoying myself sniffing around.
See the plastic chair? Mom had a feeling there was a hide on it, but I would not go to it. In the end she was right but I was too busy to bother with a plastic chair. She says now that Olivia has advanced to a higher level she is going to work harder with me. At least the pressure is off for me since Olivia does so well. I think it will help me and Mom work better together in the future.
Peak a boo…I see you over there, camera lady!
Hmmm…I really wonder if there are actual moose in that moose lodge over there? I sure hope not as they would be big and scary. Luckily, I am usually not afraid of animals bigger than me. I take them on but Mom says I am not as big as I feel I am.
This trial had a second exterior search which means, more sniffing in the woods! There wasn’t much to search in this second area. I was pretty interested in the picnic table but I wasn’t sure exactly where the odor was hidden. Maybe on top of the table, or maybe not?
I sniffed around the whole table and figured out exactly where the odor was.
Each of us has our own way of “alerting” when we find odor. Mom says mine is the cutest because I back away a bit and make a cute face. Sometimes I stick my tongue out a bit too. No matter how I look, I always look happy and pleased with myself which makes Mom happy. PS: Do you see Mom is dressed in her pink clothes because it is my search day?
Hope you enjoyed a bit of my sniffing in the woods. I missed two hides all day which is a bummer. If I missed only one, I would have had a second leg and a title. Mom and I will keep working on it.

Well, getting to do more sniffing is always fun, so it isn’t necessarily a loss.
It doesn’t matter much to me but Mom is the competitive type.
Like your mom, I have never been a big fan of cell phone photos. They will do when noting else is available. The Nikon D750 is an awesome unit. I have been shooting Nikon for a long, long time. I only chose the Canon because of it’s size and features for travel. I think it will take a couple of lenses to complete the package. These images are great and like our Cocker Spaniel, their nose is always on the ground looking for the source of a new scent. Have a blessed week.
Can’t wait to see what the Canon does. It is a pain hauling a big heavy camera around but it is usually worth it when we do.
That looks like a fun place for some sniffing around!
Amazing smells that I was technically supposed to ignore.
I can only imagine how distracting the various animal scents must be when you’re doing nose work in the woods!! No titles or “legs”, but at least you had fun!
Exactly and now with Olivia being a sports nut, I don’t have the pressure on me as much.
we would love to go ona sniff-venture in your woods with you… imagine what fun we had…
So many critters out there, crazy!
Awww, I wish I could have gone sniffing in the woods with you and mom. Pretty place.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
Mom wishes I had worked more but she was happy I managed to do as well as I did.
You do take pretty in pink pictures! I just bet it was an olfactory overload in those woods. I hate to admit this, but there was a SQUIRREL on the screen above my head yesterday. I did not notice it. A hunter I am not! XOXO Sparkle
Oh my heavens, we would have ripped down that screen to get at it. We are all really into hunting.
you’re a winner in our book and what a great place to do some sniffing!!
It was beautiful and had fun sniffing spots too.
This sure looks like fun work to me and your mom looks so pretty in her striking pink!
Thankfully, she likes bright colors so we always match.
You sure take adorably smelly/sniffy(?) photos
Thank you. It was a beautiful area to be in.
You do look so happy when you find a hide. Good luck next time!
I do enjoy nose work, but I don’t have the speed or drive like Olivia does.
You look so pretty in the fall forest!

It was a beautiful day and place for searching.
awwww you are a darling sniffer!
Aww, the Camera Lade does a nice job. Bravo!
She is our favorite photographer.
Looks like you had fun!
I did pretty well considering I was not working as I should be the whole time.
