We’re thankful to start running with our mom again this week. Today marks thirteen weeks since her heart attack and our last run together. Gramma says Mom never learned to walk, she started with running and never stopped. Not running has been tough on her but now we are slowing getting back to it. Bailie was the first
victim, I mean lucky one to give it a try.
Everything is very scary for mom because she is afraid everything will happen again. A couple weeks ago she started running/walking intervals on the treadmill at cardiac rehab. The running portion is slower than her usual pace but it is still running. The nurse said she could start doing the same at home as it has been going well, but she has been too afraid. The same fear took a while to overcome when getting back to our usual walking routine. Because she loves to run with dogs and she doesn’t want to be alone if something happens, Bailie went out for the first run/walk. It went completely fine and Mom was super happy. Running is something that always makes her happy and is a great way to start the day.
Today Mom decided to be brave and start running with me and Olivia. Olivia can be kind of wild and two dogs is more to handle than one but she wanted to run with us. Of course, it was a thunderstorm when we went out. It was dark. We got pretty wet too, but we all enjoyed it. Mom is feeling more confident with every morning run. Next up will be running without intervals. Next month she will find out more about how her heart is healing and we all have our paws crossed things look good. For now, being able to run together helps get things back to the way they were before that bad, bad, day. It’s funny how life can really change the things you are thankful for in the blink of an eye.

We are so glad your Mom is healing and that you are able to run together again. Healing purrs for her heart and POTP we just know her heart will get stronger and healthier every day.
She has felt great all along but has to remember she is still healing. We are all super happy to be walking like before and now are starting to run.
Good work girls! I bet your mom was happy. Fingers crossed all keeps going well and a good report next month! Have a great day. Your friend Lilly
We all have our paws crossed that her heart has healed and doesn’t have any or much damage. It’s great that she is able to “work out” with us again.
So happy and thankful you all are healing and getting back to normal. π Life can sure throw us some unexpected stuff. Did you know my mom has a pacemaker? She’s had it for 14 years because she developed a super slow heartbeat. That was scary for her. Run, Bailie and Joy, run! XOXO Sparkle
Mom doesn’t want any of that stuff or the medications so she is working hard in the hope of being able to get rid of some or all of the meds next summer. We will see how it all goes. We are glad your mom is pacing herself π
This is such joyful news!
We are really happy to start doing some running again.
That’s a wonderful thankful even though your Mom is a bit scared, she’s doing great! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thrusday Blog Hop!
She is always scared about something but we try to keep her happy and help her forget about things.
Wonderful news! Yes, it is funny/scary how life can change in a blink of an eye.
It is very scary how things can change in an instant.
Make sure mom never leaves the house without a phone or better yet an Apple Watch
Mom doesn’t like apple products, so no mac or apple stuff but she takes her phone all the time.
I LOVE your running posts and I’m so glad these first couple of runs back have been going well for you all!
We are happy too. Walking is awesome but some running is a nice mix and it is more fun to run with dogs according to Mom.
What a wonderful thankful. I’m happy mom is back doing what she loves and she has you to watch out for her. Excellent.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
She is always there for us, so we are there for her and are running slow and not so far. Hopefully we will be back to the old runs in a few weeks.
We’re so happy that your mom is back to doing something that she truly loves. Take good care of her, girls!
We hang around with her pretty much all the time and she feels better knowing she is not alone if something happens.
Wishing your Mom a very wonderful day every day!
Thank you. We try to make sure that is the case.
Glad to hear your mom is back to getting out in the morning – jogging just doesn’t allow much opportunity for sniffing….maybe you can convince to keep to intervals for a while yet!
We take turns on our running days so we get to walk on the other ones and we get to walk every evening so we are alright with it. Running is fun too.
That is good news!! Slow but steady wins the race (so I should be winning a lot of races – LOL!!)
That is my motto according to Mom. Olivia is lightening fast on everything she does but I am slow and steady but I get the job done, Bailie is somewhere in the middle.
I’m so glad your mom is healing but I can certainly understand her trepidation. I’ve been the same as a child too…run, run, run, never walk!
Mom always likes to race around. It was really hard at first when she even had to walk slow, but she made it through and now is up to slow running.
This is the best thankful we’ve read all day!! We are so happy to hear that you and your Mom are starting the path back to running!!
xoxo,
Rosy and the Gang
We are and it feels good. This whole healing thing sure takes a long time and life has been changed forever but we are moving forward every day and taking care of Mom too.
Our Mom misses running with the dog in the morning. She used to run with the befores but she got a severe head injury and broke a bone in her middle ear and still has terrible balance and falls down for no reason. She is so glad that your Mom is back doing what she loves and sends her loads of happiness and strength!
Oh dear, that sounds awful. Mom has fallen and hit her head several times while running over the years but nothing that serious. The broken ankle was the worst so far. It’s super hard to give up what you love doing and we hope she will stay on the path to recovery and be able to keep doing what we all love for a long time.
I’m glad that your Mom is able to take you pups for runs again. I’m glad that she is doing well.
We hope she is doing as well inside as she feels but we will find out in a couple weeks.
We know how much your Mom loves running, so we’re glad she’s able to do some again. Having you girls for company hopefully helps her confidence. β₯
Starting out slow and short but we are now doing 20 slow minutes in a row which is nice. The colder weather makes it nicer too so Mom doesn’t keep freezing during the walking part.
