It was a not so stellar barn hunt weekend for us Saturday and Sunday. Madison and I went on Saturday, and Sunday Bailie came along too. Mom had high hopes of pretty ribbons, points, and maybe a title, but things did not go as planned. I still need a wire crate because I rip my way out of the soft sided one. In my opinion no one else should have a turn. I’m also in the middle because I get loud about seeing other dogs. Pretty much, I want to be the only dog at the trial, so I yell, scream and dig.
We had the snow Friday, which brought in very cold air for Saturday. Despite being cold, it was absolutely beautiful outside. Sunday it warmed up and we were able to get a photo of each of us out and about around the fairgrounds. Saturday, Mom didn’t want to take her gloves off outside.
Bailie loves to climb snow piles, so she wanted her photo on the snow piles in front of the grandstand. They plow the snow up at the end of the area which makes for fun piles.
Madison elected to take a photo in front of the little red barn in a snow pile. There is a lot of down time at the trials, so we go out for short walks often. Walking and doing photos relaxes all of us, including Mom. Saturday when it was so cold, Mom helped out in the ring a lot. We didn’t do much walking Saturday.
The weekend didn’t go as planned. Madison had two Crazy 8’s runs. Mom was hoping to get forty or fifty points for each one. Each run had a missing element which deducts twenty points, so Madison got points both runs but only twenty each after the deductions. She is running for fun now that she has her RATCH, and she did have fun but Mom wanted more points.
Bailie was a disaster and didn’t find even one rat! Mom says she doubts she will have Bailie do barn hunt in the future. This decision makes Bailie happy.
After Madison’s low points, Bailie not getting anything, and I bombed my first three runs, Mom was quite disappointed. I’m in Senior where there are four rats to be found. I find one or two and quit because I want to get paid and in barn hunt there is no treating in the ring. In my practice last week I worked on counting to four and then getting a huge jackpot of treats. One practice isn’t much time to learn something completely new like this. We almost went home before my run as Mom was so frustrated but then we stayed. After finding two rats, I stopped hunting again, but then with Mom’s help asking for three, I decided to find a third rat, and then I found the fourth. I got so many treats after we left the ring I almost exploded. It took me 3:13 of the allowed 3:30 to find all four rats, climb and tunnel, but it earned me a second place! Now I have two Q’s, and just need one more for my title.
Yay! I saved the day on a not so stellar barn hunt weekend.
My GBGV Life is happy, so weโre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
Bailie, don’t be sad… if we find da next rat here, we can send it to you… ;O))) bt: Olivia, that’s what we did ith da foldable softside crate too…LOL
I ripped a hold in the screen last week at nose work class and I also learned how to get the zipper from the inside and unzip it. My sisters are so boring. They just sit quietly in their soft crates and wait for their turns.
Don’t feel sad about the weekend, having one like that makes all the winning ones so much more special!
Not every sports event can be a success, but one would thing with three dogs, someone would have a good weekend!
Bummer
Thank you Olivia for saving the weekend. XOXO Sparkle
Olivia is that kind of a sports dog. We are glad she managed to pull out that last minute Q.
You can’t always take the gold. It will make a big win even sweeter. We love you all.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches all around and my best to your wonderful mom. โฅ
Not every event goes the way we would like but at least I got a Q and Madison got some points.
You make us laugh, Olivia. You’re a bit of a divaโบ And Bailie, that’s an awesome shot of you on top of the snow pile! You girls had an okay weekend even though you didn’t win tons of ribbons this time.
We just figured things would go better, but we still had some fun hunting rats, well, not Bailie, buy Madison and I did.
You still a ‘star’ in my eyes ~ sweet photos and post ~ Xo
Wishing you lots of happy moments,

We can’t be perfect at every trial I guess. It was still a fun weekend.
Olivia we are glad you did well! I bet Madison and Bailie were just saving it up for the next competition. We loved seeing you outside too! You sure had some snow! We love seeing your competitions, thanks for sharing.
Bailie won’t be doing Barn Hunt anymore. She really isn’t into it. Scent and nose work or tracking are more her thing.
everyone has an off day. Next time will be better
We kind of had an off weekend, but we will try again.
Learning counting helps!! It wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been, and no one/dog got hurt. AND… maybe your breeder is working on a new puppy for you….??? She’d going to be buried on them by the end of today!
9 puppies so far! They are adorable and Mom would love one, but she has to have enough time for everyone and work, sports, etc. Four would be a lot.
Well, after all of that the Second Place finish was a really big win, congrats!!!!
I was pretty happy to finish the weekend with that placement.
Somedays you win some and some days not so much! BUT you all will do better next time~
It happens to even the best of athletes and we are just amateurs! There will be more trials coming up and we will do better.
Not every run will set a record and that’s okay. You learn and grow and do better next time!
We did learn a few things which is also good. Not every weekend can be a big success.
