My first Elite Nose Work Trial is in the books. We took a road trip to Smithton, Pennsylvania for Madison’s NW3 Trial and my Elite Trial last weekend. It took place at the Public Safety Training Center. Mom is looking for interesting trial locations and this sounded like loads of fun. It seems most trials are at schools or fairgrounds and it gets to be a bit boring. It was cold and rained most of the day, so the photos are not very bright.
The Elite Trial had four searches. In Elite, searches are longer than in the other levels and there are twice as many hides usually. My trial had twenty hides, I found sixteen. Each search has a time limit, and either they tell you the number of hide you are looking for, or they give you a range. Mom was super worried at first, but then she remembered how good I am and she relaxed. Even though we missed more than we wanted to, it was a blast and I worked really hard.
The most difficult search for us where we missed two hides was in the breach building behind me in the photo. We had an unknown number of hides, and six minutes to search the outside area, a few rooms and the garage full of stuff. I worked the entire time, but we still came up short. Mom says with practice it will become easier for both of us, but the main thing is that we had such a good time.
My final search was four fire engines. I missed one of the hides. We thought it would be the easiest of all the searches, but in the end, it was pretty tough for Team Orange. Both of us were running out of steam, and it took me a long time to find even the third hide and we didn’t get the fourth. Still, it was super fun searching old fire trucks! Madison had a fire truck search in her trial and she passed it no problem.
I have my next Elite Nose Work Trial Easter weekend. Mom and I are excited to see how it goes. I earned eighty points last weekend. Elite is all about the points. Next time we want to have more than eighty but as long as we have fun, it isn’t all that important of a goal. I’m thankful to get a spot in the fun Elite Trials we are entering!

If we could award you a wholabunch of points we would! Good job …! And also to Madison!
We are very happy with 80 points for our first time out in this level. Hopefully we can do the same or better next time.

Oh, that is so sweet of you. We will really enjoy our time at this level.
That is pawesome, Olivia!! You and your mom did great, and even more important you had fun! That breach building looks quite interesting! I’d enjoy checking it out myself! And those old fire trucks are so cool! Congrats to Madison too!!
It sure was an interesting place to go sniffing. Lots of good smells to go with the ones I was really looking for.
OMDs you got to explore 4 firetrucks I might be a tad jealous. What an adventure that was
You nailed your title Miss Elite
Hugs Cecilia
The firetrucks were hard but I think I was kind of tired by that time. It was a really fun day overall.
I’m happy you had fun and love what you do!”Yay Team Orange! XOXO Sparkle
I really do love my sniffing work, but I love all my sports actually.
What a fun place to work. I’ve been to training centers when I was working. I’m sure you did far better than I did.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around and a hug to mom. β₯
How fun for you. These kind of places are quite interesting. Next we are going to an old prison later in April. Hopefully my nose won’t get me locked up!
Wow- what a fun place to be training! Hugs to you and your Mom!
We were competing, but the rescue people train there.
What a fun road trip that must have been!! Great job Olivia(and Madison!)

It was a fun trip, but lots of drive time.
That looks like so much fun!
Interesting places make sniffing more fun, especially for the humans.
trust the dog and roll with the flow!
Mom has to trust me as she has no clue. I am really good at what I do.
Fun is the most important element-not numbers
We are a good team, so we do have a lot of fun and it shows in our scores. My sisters don’t have that trust in their teams yet, but it will come.
