I had a perfect Scent Work weekend! I am now at the Detective trial level. Mom put me in two Detective searches each day so I would get to do four searches total. We set a goal of getting one or two qualifying searches and we blew that goal out of the water! Madison was also sniffing but her weekend didn’t go very well. She did earn one qualifying score in Masters Interiors at least.
The trial was at the Kiwanis Scout Camp in Marine on St. Croix. Madison did a nose work trial there last September. The weather cleared up for the weekend with sunshine and warmer temperatures.
In Detective a team has an unknown number of hides between five and ten, and the search time is seven to fifteen minutes. The search areas are larger and must include indoor and outdoor areas. My first area was in the morning this building. The main room and the deck area outside is where I had to look. The time limit was seven minutes and in the end I found all five hides. Thirteen of nineteen dogs passed this search.
In the afternoon, this was my search area. Once again I had seven minutes and five to ten hides. Mom wears a timer as she has to keep track of the time. If she doesn’t say “finish” before the time is up, we don’t qualify, even if we found all the hides. This area had a lot of picnic tables, wood, and the little cabin too. Mom had to open the door for me to go in and search it too. it was a hard search which I passed, finding all six hides, with just four seconds to spare! Only seven out of twenty teams passed, and I placed fourth.
Sunday morning my search was this cabin and the area to the right of it. It was kind of tricky, but Mom lets me lead the team and I do my best to not steer her wrong. There was a puzzle in the cabin that stumped me so I went outside and worked but let Mom know I needed to go back inside to finish our search. In the end I found all six hides. Eight of the twenty teams passed this search.
The last search was the best search of all in my perfect scent work weekend! Being at a camp on a river, what better place to search than lots of boats and a boat house? Mom said it would be really hard, but so much fun and she is right as always! See all the canoes and paddle boats, not to mention the boat house was full of junk when the door was open. I blasted into the search area with Mom running behind me and got right to work. It took me just under six minutes to let Mom know we found everything, which meant six hides. As usual, I was right and we earned our forth Q. Only seven of the nineteen teams passed. I am the only dog to do all four Detective Trials and to pass them. This makes Mom and I super proud and it makes for a perfect Scent Work Weekend.
We did six Detective Trials prior to this since the end of September last year. Each time we came up one hide short. This weekend we found our sweet spot passing all four under three different judges. I need ten Q’s to earn a Detective Title, so I am almost half way there. Mom and I can’t wait for our next sniffing event! Sniffing together makes us both so happy!
My GBGV Life is happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!

I have to admit, I am pretty good at my sniffing job. I can’t wait to sniff again in a few days. We practiced this morning and mom says I was a beast. That is supposed to be a good thing.
WOW, what a fun and productive weekend, congratulations super sniffer!!!
It was so much fun and successful too. Mom and I are over the top happy.

Fires? Hmmm…Mom hasn’t had the TV on much lately, too busy. We are fine and everything is pretty wet plus big storms are moving in.

No need, I already have one. Wait until I get that title, I will put it on!
A Happy Snoopy Dance for you!
Thank you. Mom and I have done a lot of those.
what a wonderful weekend you had! Have a great day!
We sure did have a Grand weekend. It shocked us even!
Outstanding work Olivia. I know your mom is super proud of you. I think Lucy would have enjoyed learning how to sniff out stuff. As a cocker spaniel she always has her nose to the ground when we go for walks. When I hide a treat in her dog food, it takes her about two seconds to sniff it out and woof it down. We have a Three Dogs Bakery here in our town and she loves the baked bone shaped treats. Have a blessed week.
Mom started training me at 9 weeks old and I have been crazy about nose work since almost day one. It is a super fun sport that dogs can do for their entire lives.
Congratulations! You both did an amazing job!
I was amazing. Hopefully my streak will continue.
You are a superstar detective already, Olivia!!!!! Congrats!
I’m on my way up to being a real super star!
