Mitchell, South Dakota was the first stop on our road trip to Wyoming. We had never been to a corn palace before and we really wanted to see what it was all about. We learned that it is the only one in the world.
It is a big building which is amazing actually. If you get up close, you can see all the corncobs. Who ever thought of making a palace out of corncobs? Maybe it is bored farmers here in the heartland? All the pictures, words, and decorations on the building that you see are made with corncobs.
Around the side of the building they have a place with photos and the history of the Corn Palace. Mitchell, South Dakota is a smaller town, and this palace is really the main focus of the entire town. The Corn Palace is over one hundred years old which is crazy!
There are some photo opps for the tourists. If you know us, you know we love good photo opps when we travel. All the murals on this side of the building are also made with corncobs.
We saved the most corny photo for last. This is the cutest corncob ever, but who ever thought corn cobs would be cute? We would not go out of our way to visit Mitchell and the Corn Palace, but it is something fun to see once in a quick pit stop. By the way, the weather was beautiful, but as it was our entire trip, it was super windy!
My GBGV Life is joining Comedy Plus for Awww Monday today.
Thank you for showing me this place
It’s a crazy place, but fun to see.
Unique barely begins to describe this building. The girls have really seen the country have multiple “tourist” photos to prove where they have been. Great images as usual. Have a blessed week.
Thank you. We plan to continue traveling but will be doing some local trials for a while after this weekend. Traveling is fun.
Well who knew there was a corn palace? Those murals are amazing. and that is one cute corn cob! Thanks for showing us the corn palace. We are impressed with the artists!! have a great day your friend Lilly
It’s been there for over 100 years which is crazy amazing!
I wonder if had it been hot outside would there have been popcorn blowing in the wind? XOXO Sparkle
LOL! Mom was there in the summer in college, but she didn’t see any popcorn flying around. I think you can buy popcorn in the building but we didn’t go inside because dogs aren’t allowed.
They cute ~ whether corny or not ~ love them ~ Xo
Wishing you laughter and love in your day,

Corny can be cute too π
I’m so happy you’re taking me along on your adventure. I love that smiling corncob too. Adorable. Not as adorable as the two of you though.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
It’s not every day one finds a smiling corncob!
What an amazing place! You girls are the most well-traveled dogs that I know!
Mom has traveled the world but she says traveling by car with us is the absolute best way to travel.
wow we love that palace… it is even much better than the palace of that wizard of oz!!!
I wonder if we could find the wizard of Oz palace?
WOW! We saw it about 35 years ago on a vacation out West! Really neat that it is still standing!!! I have forgotten the history behind it, but our two-footed relatives have visited it over the generations. And yes, I believe there have been popcorn poppings in the past; but they have to bring it in – the Palace is made of field corn – not popping corn.
One needs to understand corn before they try to do anything with it. Mom took an ear of feed corn thinking it looked good years ago but it was terrible. Sweet corn is good stuff, though.
We sure didn’t know about it but it still is darn amazing and your photos are wonderful!
Around the Midwest it is pretty well known. Mom had been there a few times years ago, but it was fun to go again she said.
I want a corn cob statute in my front yard and I would love for it to have likeness of you two on it too
Hugs Cecilia who loves being corny
I learn so much from your trips. I enjoy going on them with you. Thanks for the ride.
That’s great! We love to travel and see and smell new things. Sharing is the least we can do.
Ha!! Too cute!!
South Dakota, what can one expect, right?
We love to follow your travels through pictures. It must be awesome to visit during a corn festival
We can’t even imagine. It would be so crowded. We enjoyed having it all to ourselves.
What a cute place to stop!! Your Mama sure did find some fun pit stops on this road trip!
xoxo,
Sunny, Jakey & Rosy
We packed a lot into a couple days, and it wore us out but it was worth it.
Oh my goodness- does South Dakota provide all the corn we need to eat? I never ever have seen a palace like this! They probably do not have Colonel Sanders here- and if they do he would have to be renamed Kernal Sanders! Have a great day!
LOL Kernel Sanders! The midwest is known for corn. The top five corn states are Iowa, Illinios, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Indiana. There are so many kinds of corn too. Corn isn’t just corn anymore!
It sounds like fun, i believe they have some kind of festival there each year.
I’m sure they do. It is a popular and well known place in the midwest.
Wow, I didn’t know that there was a corn palace. That’s an appealing photo of your dogs with the corn-y statue! π
A peeling is right! The corn palace is pretty well known in the Midwest.
WoW! That place is corny! Our Mom prefers to drive too. She says the best vacations where when we had the trailer with the cats and dogs and she misses it.
A trailer wouldn’t be for us, but driving is so much fun!
