We had beautiful weather when we visited the Black Hills on day two of our nose work road trip to Wyoming. Of course, as it was every day, it was very windy, but when you are in the forest, the wind isn’t so bad. As long as the sun is shining and it is not raining or snowing, it is a good day to be tourist hounds.
We used our new word, “animal”, to see our favorite thing, a prairie dog. These little critters are all over racing around, and going in and out of their little holes in the ground!
It wouldn’t be right if one doesn’t find a buffalo roaming around on the prairie right next to the forest area. This big fellow was right off the side of the road. We barked and barked but he would not even lift his head to look at us. How rude!
We came upon a beautiful lake surrounded by the woods of the Black Hills. The sun sparkles on the water and it sure looks pretty!
A bit further down the road we could see the snow covered mountains behind the lake. It is really pretty. We think the Badlands are interesting, but the Black Hills are beautiful and we prefer them to the Badlands if we have to pick one. Seeing the mountains makes us really want to go to Colorado one day.
There is one more view of a resort on the lake. It was closed this time of year, but we can imagine it would be packed in the warmer months. Once again, we are thankful we had the area to ourselves because of the time of year.
On our way out of the forest, we drove through Custer. This mural is right on the main street. Mom said we could not rent the ATV’s, so we decided to settle for a photo instead. We are sure thankful we got to see such a beautiful area! Tomorrow we will have our photos from Mt. Rushmore, and that will wrap up our quick Wyoming trip.

Oh our goodness you are making mom and me so homesick for the west! We loved hiking and visiting areas like this while we lived out there. These are great photos. We love the lake!! you both look great. your friend Lilly
We would love to take more time next time and do some hiking, but not in the warm months because Mom is so terrified of snakes.
The heck with the rude buffalo. I would want to run and chase all of the prairie dogs! The scenery is just gorgeous!
It is really a beautiful place. We saw tons of deer too which could be fun to chase, but someone please let us loose after those prairie dogs!
We are glad you got to visit and see all these pretty sights without a lot of human crowds!
It was amazing as it was totally deserted which we really enjoyed.
I had the buffalo in my mind immediately as I read the titel… and you really saw one… how great!!!
We saw quite a few of them in South Dakota in the Badlands and then the Black Hills. They are not at all interested in us but we think they are interesting.
If I look in my mom’s jewelry box I would find some Black Hills Gold jewelry. That area is a bucket list place to visit. Thank you for sharing! XOXO Sparkle
You are right. Mom remembers Black Hills gold jewelry was a thing and maybe it still is. She doesn’t have any that she knows of.
Our Dad has been there and says it’s really pretty. You pretty girls sure were having some sightseeing fun! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
We’ve been on a travel streak, but now we will be staying local for a couple months after this weekend.
I’ve been there and it’s so beautiful. God’s country.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around and my best to your peeps. β₯
Isn’t it just gorgeous! We all enjoyed our short time there.
What an incredible adventure you are all enjoying. My mom visited the Black Hills when she was a kid, and she’s looking forward to traveling there in the future now that daddy is retired. Thanks so much for sharing.
Mom was there as a kid too but she didn’t remember much about it. Now she just loves it and wants to go back.
The Black Hills looks so beautiful!!
We are headed to Colorado in a few weeks to go camping!

Happy campers camping in Colorado! We want to go back to Colorado for some trials but they are all on the far side. One of these days we’ll find the right trial and go hiking out there.
What a fun trip you girls are having! If you could have rented the ATV, you probably would have tried to chase buffalo, and THAT is a NO-NO!!!
No, we would run after the big animal, but Olivia would chicken out as she isn’t as brave with animals as I am. Prairie dog chasing might be more fun.
Those mountains do look beautiful, i’m so glad you are sharing your tour with us.
Mom just loved it there and would love to go back again and spend more time.
Wow, what a fun trip to the Black Hills.
The entire Wyoming trip was great!
What a lovely sunny time you had! cheers!
It was beautiful weather!
it was brilliant of you to schedule your trip without hordes of people!
It really just happened. We figured it wouldn’t be busy like summer but so quiet was a real surprise.
