Is your pup drinking enough water this summer? We get hot and thirsty just like humans but we are usually at your mercy to get water. Good fresh water is key to a healthy dog! Drinking out of the hose can be fun, bowls are great, but make sure your dog always has good, clean water available.
Start by making sure you wash the water bowl every time you fill it. Bacteria thrive in the summer months and your dog’s bowl is a great place for it to grow. It only takes a few minutes to clean out a bowl and fill it with fresh water. If you have more than one pet using the bowl, washing it will help each pet keep their germs to themselves. Seriously, who wants cat germs in their water bowl!
Dogs who are outside playing need to be drinking enough water, so make sure there is a water bowl available outdoors. Change the water frequently in the heat. Who wants a big drink of hot water? Outside, often water bowls get dirty fast too, so give the bowl a quick wash with each refill. Be careful using metal bowls as they can heat up and that isn’t good if your dog touches the hot surface.
Finally, when traveling or taking your dog along in the car, bring water. Car’s break down, things happen, and it is nice to know you have water for your dog. We like to bring our own water so it tastes just like home. Mom always has a couple gallon jugs of water in the car for us for when we need it.
You stay hydrated and keep your pup hydrated! Water is so very important for all living beings! We are thankful to have several bowls around the house and one outside. Mom keeps them all full for us and we all drink a lot of water.

we totally agree with you… water is the key for summer… that’s for sure…
Lots of water bowls being filled at our house!
Mom is a nutcase with my water. My bowl gets washed twice a day and each time that I drink, she pours out the old water and refills it with fresh. The honest truth is – I like itβΊ This doesn’t happen only in the summer – it’s all year long!
In the winter we don’t drink as much water, but Mom is always filling water bowls and washing them out. Fresh water is the best tasting!
Excellent point!! My brother goes for long walks with mom and he is so glad that she always has water with her for him! Stay cool! your friend Lilly
Water is key. No one wants to get dehydrated. People and animals die from that.
Yes indeed, watere is so very important all of the time but especially when it’s hot, hot, hot. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
We have several water bowls around the house, and we even have travel bowls in the car, just in case we get thirsty, or if Zachary needs to ‘reload’ for the next place we walk.
Yep, we have water at every turn and in the car too.
Excellent advise perfectly illustrated!
Thank you.
Mom caught me checking out the water in the birdbath this morning. We ha a lot of rain yesterday so it is full. She thought that was disgusting! I love it when she puts ice in my water bowl! Now that’s cool! XOXO Sparkle
We love a good puddle on a walk but Mom says we are not supposed to drink that water because it isn’t clean enough. Probably same as bird bath water.
You mom is so good! Clover drinks bottle water over the summer as it is different water at the beach and home.
Sometimes we get bottled water on the road but usually we bring our own in our bottles. Have fun at the beach, Clover!
Great advice!
Important too!
We always made sure there was plenty of fresh water for our Angel Little Bit. She loved cold water so we would take an ice chest if we were going somewhere. In the summer we put ice cubes in her water at home several times a day. A fond memory.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
We have never liked ice in our water, but Mom puts it in our outside bowl sometimes and we let it melt to make the water cold.
Amen!! I’m sick and tired of summer and it has really just begun. 2 Days in a row of 102 and 98 with heat indexes of 112 and 102.
It is really messing with my EMW. When it is 75 degrees at 6:30 and humidity over 85% I just cannot go out in that.
Thankfully I have an indoor recumbent bike.
Hugs Cecilia
It is not fun. We all go out super early, but the humidity is still so bad it is like running through pea soup according to our mom. Fall and winter are getting closer and we can’t wait!
Great post. Water is important for cats and dogs. π
and for humans too!
Mom is always changing the water in the bowl! Us cats used to have a fountain bowl, but when we moved from the big city back to Midway, we NEVER used the fountain anymore, we LOVED the big huge water bowl here, so the fountain got donated to a neighbor cat. Yes, there are bowls in each car and during the summer, Mom keeps a bottle of water in the freezer that goes into the car cooler for Cinnamon. We even have a water dish on the back deck! We LOVE water!
We forgot to say we love your post and the watery photos! Your Peep ROCKS!
We are just happy to see more of you all lately!
We have our bowl on the deck, a couple in the house and water in the car. Our fountain was great, but it died a year ago or so. We all enjoyed it but Mom says keeping it clean and the expense of filters and stuff wasn’t worth it anymore, so no new one.
Smart tips! We go through a lot of water here.
We do here too!
